Popular open source HTPC/media hub software XBMC finally launched its latest version, 9.11 AKA ‘Camelot.’ It’s free, looks nice, and has a lot of new features. If you load it up, let your fellow HTPC enthusiasts know what you think in our HTPC forum.

It’s been quite a while in the making (and maybe a bit late), but Camelot has arrived for Windows, OSX, Linux, and XBMC Live, and just in time for the holidays. Noteworthy changes include a revamped user interface via the new default skin “Confluence“, DirectX support by default for the Windows platform, a complete reorganization of the settings menus, automatic video information extraction, and smoother video playback. In addition, all scrapers have been updated, new remotes are supported out of the box, and codecs have been updated for more reliable playback.

I gave up on my Xbox because it sputters out on anything h.264 encoded. I got the impression from the scene guys that it just couldn't handle it. The Xbox has a 700mhz PIII I spose, it's been awhile. I'm curious if they found a way around it.

Sheesh didn't realize the dev's dead for the Original. Might as well change the name at this point.

Dev isn't totally dead on the original, T3CH is still releasing SVN builds on a fairly regular basis. Current original build is 9.11a1 and I'm sure in not too long of a time, 9.11b2 will be compiled for original.

Check it out on the PC, though. (also available for Mac and Linux). It's amazing. I really like the new skin. :)

exactly what I'm wondering. I do most of my video watching on the 360 with ps3 Media center, but good ole XBMC on the original box is soooo smooth in terms of navigation. if only HD .mkv didn't make it have a stroke

I just installed this for the first time on my main right, and I'm pretty damned impressed. Now I have to build a HTPC for the living room

Loved XBMC on the Xbox. I'll definitely be trying it again on my HTPC once its rebuilt.

I really enjoy using XBMC on my HTPC.
The library and scraper features have really cleaned up my media collection.
I don't think I could do without this app.

I can't fucking figure out how to use this for Windows ie adding movies to library and etc. The documentation's pretty poor whereas W7MC is pretty easy to use w/ the 3rd party addon Media Browser.

I still run xbmc on the original xbox, its nice because you can pick them up for ~$20 on craigslist now, so I've got one in the living room, and one in the bedroom.

Yea... not seeing the point. This has nothing over 7MC + MediaBrowser. Especially since you can augment your filters with whatever you want with 7MC. Say I have an Nvidia GPU and want to use CUDA, 7MC allows that, XBMC doesn't. Say I want to use DXVA with my AMD GPU, 7MC allows that, XBMC doesn't... ETC...

Not to mention MediaBrowser kicks ass.

I see XBMC's strengths in its price (free, even the OS is free if you use linux) and its low hardware requirements (atom/ion can play 1080p).

So the point is that with XBMC and a $200 aspire revo, you can get a gorgeous front end that will play just about anything your network can stream to it, including 1080p HD. It also features very low power consumption. For people looking for simplicity on a very low budget, it's hard to beat an XBMC box.

A win7MC/MediaBrowser box will definately have more features and flexibility, but it's also going to be more expensive.

I'd like to look into Boxee, but XBMC's interface looks much better IMHO.

Totally love XBMC, it rocks and blows away everything else, and there's more media managers out there for it then any others.

There are dx accelerated builds (for hd content), are still a work in progress but making great strides.

You can setup xbmc to use an external player (for hd content if your cpu is too weak).. this is [H], so nobody is running weak cpu's right :D

For linux, almost all nvidia 8000 / 9000 and newer cards have linux hardware accel, xbmc under linux uses that, and it rocks.

When the boxee box (from dlink) hits, i'm sure xbmc will load up on that as well.

There's also linux + apple tv + hd decoder from broadcom option for another super small hd box. (kinda a bear to get going right now, but it works).

amd x2 240 + geforce 8200 mobo + 2gb ram + thumbdrive = cheap, small, hd player.
any ion based devices

if your building a box for htpc content, why not use linux, the live cd makes it a no brainer to get it up and running.. gotta use windows, just put a faster cpu in the box for 1080p content.

Those XBMC users who happen to own an iphone - the XBMC Remote app is nothing short of phenomenal...an absolute steal for only a couple bucks.

The XBMC wiki is pretty extensive.

If that doesn't work search their forums
I tried reading that however my problem has to do with the fact that when people say "right-click" in order to add files to the library, it just kicks me back to root menu leaving me no other alternatives to seek. Considering that 9.11 was just released, it makes me wonder if the wiki was updated to reflect how 9.11 works.

C on the keyboard should work.
