I have cleared all my temp files / cookies / browser history, closed my browsers (both IE7 and Firefox 3.5.6) and reopen them.

However, when I try to use the option to Keep me logged in during login in both browsers, each one says login successful, but does not actually log me in (unable to see PMs or my User CP)

In IE7, if I don't check the box, I can login. However, in FF, even if I don't check the box, I can't seem to login all the way.

This happens on http://www.hardforums.com/ and http://hardforums.com

I'm typing this from IE7.

the other thread shouldn't have been closed because the problem is still a problem. I did everything you did plus I cleared DNS cache and I still have the problem. I can log in for 15 minutes or so, and then when I refresh or browse to a new thread, all of a sudden I'm logged out again.

yea... sounds like the DB isn't allowing or storing continuous connections.

I couldn't log in earlier today. I cleared my cache and the hardforum cookies and as is well for now.

There are 557 members logged on as I type this, which is a "normal" amount.

I too this morning had issues with logging on. The Drill fixed everything.

We did install a patch last night to keep our site secure.

So,

1. close ALL your browsers.
2. Open 1 browser window.
3. Clear cache.
4. Clear history.
5. Clear "saved data."
6. Clear all cookies.
7. Close browser.
8. Open browser, try again.

Got mine to work with Firefox.

This is what I did:

  1. Cleared my Recent History → selected Everything.
  2. Closed browser and made sure that CCleaner did not have any saved cookies relating to Hardforum.
  3. Re-opened Firefox and entered in my login and then closed FF soon after.
  4. Opened CCleaner again and added my Hardforum cookie under the saved list.
  5. Opened Firefox again and verified my saved login.

:)

Was having an issue where threads I posted in weren't showing up as "read", so I did the drill.

[H]ard|Forum works, but now my bank thinks i'm a hacker for using chrome.

Sorry for the issues. Blame the folks hacking vB. :\ We had to make changes. We don't want you guys data being exposed like has happed at other larger boards very recently.

Well, I'm sorry, the suggestion solution does not work.

I decided to get clever and login wigth IE and copy and paste the logout URL in Firefox. I was able to login successfully w/o the using the checkbox, however, after trying to post, I was magically logged out again.

I still have the IE issue (w/ check box) even after clear cache/cookies and following the suggestion procedure to the letter.

There have been no modifications to my laptop whatsoever prior to this issue.

ok... I had NEVER logged in via hardforums.com before. So it can't be a cookie issue.

so... for giggles... I tried to.
same issue as djgizmo is having.
yet, hardforum.com and www.hardforum.com is working as it should.

hardforums.com and www.hardforums.com is not letting me login, regardless of checking the "remember me" box. It brings me to the "Thank you for logging in, blah blah blah" page, then when the redirect finishes, I'm still not logged in.

yeah use hardforum no 's' and it is fine. 'forums' just loops indefinitly

Did the drill, now it keeps me logged in

But nothing shows up as read in my UserCP

My issue has gotten even worse. Currently I'm only able to post through safari on my iPhone. On my work computer I can't stay logged in for even a second. After entering my login info I get the "Thankyou for logging in" screen and then when it redirects me back to the forums I am logged out again! I've tried doing this with both the "Remember Me" box ticked and unticked. Also both on IE8 and Firefox Portable 3.5.6.

It shouldn't be, as cookies aren't stored in the DB and NEVER will be, that's why we keep suggesting that you clear them from your browser.

If you can post from your iPhone (lmfao @ iPhone, sorry.), does that not suggest to you that the issue w/ your work computer is just that, the work computer's browser is not being cleared as suggested. As well, if your work is using a Firewall or Program to block content, make sure its not blocking anything related to [H]

W/ FF 3.5.x, please make sure that your clearing all your cache.
Time range to clear: --> select Everything, then click Ok.

My home machine, I constantly keep logged on (I always have the Remember Me feature on).

And there have been a few times, now that I think of it, I've launched [H] and am logged off. And I haven't done a temp file or cookie deletion (IE, other sites are still remembering me). I just thought it odd and just logged back on.

It's just FWIW, it's literally only happened once or twice, but just thought I'd throw that out there...

If it helps, I posted in yesterday's thread mentioning that clearing cookies will make the problem go away. But as I fired up Firefox this morning, the problem came back.

Clearing cookies again works, but apparently it's not a permanent solution (yet).

same here.

I am still having the problem with threads doing that. I have went through the drill 3 times in 2 days but it only fixes it temporarily. it keeps coming back and I see I am not the only one.

Yea I am still having both problems.

Not staying logged in, and reads not being marked as read.

This happens across multiple computers and browsers. Doing the drill helps temporarily but it comes back.

Yep, I had done all of that to no avail. And I'd agree that it had solely to do with my work computer except for the simple fact that I had no problems before last night. Which would lead me to believe it is a site problem. That and none of the other websites I use have that issue.

For me it does it randomly and seems to happen when i open multiple tabs, most all will open as me logged in, but one or 2 will claim i am not logged in.

hasn't been to bad for me, and i would take security any day over it.

I'm encountering the same issue, with Firefox, IE8, and Chrome no matter how many times I clear the cache/cookies/history. I've gone in and even manually deleted them. Reinstalled Firefox and Chrome with no effect.

Just keeps logging me out every time I log in. I can usually stay logged in for a couple hours

ok this is strange,,,
I was having the logged out issue. so
instead of following the steps recommended I tried just this
.
first off when opening the Hardforum.com website is did not show me logged in..
so I cleared the FF cache and only deleted the cookies that said bbuserid and bbpassword
then closed the browser.
now here is the odd part. when I opened the browser and opened hardforum.com it had me logged in already.. this after i had deleted the userid and password cookies,,

weirdness continues

As of Saturday afternoon, i have had no more issues.

Not sure what yall did, but thanks :)

Obviously this points out a big problem. Your browser is NOT clearing caches properly. There is NO WAY for you to login unless YOU give us the data. :( I think this is the issue others here are seeing as well.

I had the same login issue, but doing the drill worked perfectly for me in all browsers.

:D
it did go back to normal around that time for me too.

strangely for about the last hour the forum has been randomly slow sometimes hanging for 15-20 seconds before loading fully.

Don't complain now... Just remember how it USED to be... I guess I'm the only one that doesn't take that for granted :D

I have been on constantly all day and have yet to see any slowdowns. I did have one search that took about 20 seconds though....

:D

oh I remember. the forum has been nearly perfect for a couple of years so I am glad they got all those issues worked out.

the current cookie issue seems to have resolved itself too so that good. the other random issue I mentioned only happened a few times over the period of an hour today and could have been a prob on my end or just a fluke.

I haven't had any cookie issues anymore, either... But the ones I did have were only a couple times so I don't think I'd be the prime person to know if it's been resolved or not, for this particular issue.

Here is the issue we had to patch.

An exploit in our input validation has recently been discovered. This could allow a brute force attack to comprise and spoof input data for a given user. To resolve this issue, it is necessary to release a patch level version of the active versions of vBulletin.

I had the same issue early on the first day of the patch, did the drill and haven't had a problem since. It's affecting a few, but the majority are not having the problem. That fact leads me to think that the problem lies with the individual browser configs, not necessarily the forums even after the patch was implimented, it's probably the causal effect, but the configs exacerbates the problem. I am running IE8 only with no other browsers.

ok... I had NEVER logged in via hardforums.com before. So it can't be a cookie issue.

same issue as djgizmo is having.

well I can successfully log in via all domains now.
hardforum.com
hardforums.com
www.hardforum.com
www.hardforums.com
all work as they should.

apparently the gremlin died
