I just built a new PC for my wife because she wants to get online and play with me. Not sure what games to get her though. She likes FPS and RPG but anything would be good. I already got Left 4 Dead 2 for her for xmas, and we've already been playing Borderlands on the PC.

Operation flashpoint 2

If you can get yourself past the lack of dedicated server, and the bugs (not really that bad for most people), and the fact that its a console port (but not really in a bad way, its set up right), or the fact that SP is kind of short (took me and my friend about 14 hours, but that time was influenced by alcohol and sometimes fucking about). But for all of its flaws, the AI always put up a tough fight, You do 80% of this game on foot and 20% of it, and let me tell you, they designed this game to be wiiiide open, its not like most FPS'es in that respect. The graphics look great considering its DX9, the draw distance is amazing, and its pretty friendly when it comes to graphics cards. for the 40 bucks, it was worth it.

That sounds terrible. :p

Swat 4 was pretty fun. 2 copies should be relatively cheap.

has anyone tried resident evil 5 coop i just bought that for 12$ and i saw it has co-op

Co-op makes the game fun. I don't recommend playing it any other way.

I also just bought Resident Evil 5 for $12 at Target. Does it support local co-op or only online? It would be fun to hook up my PC to my HDTV and us play with controllers.

Good idea. I actually already have one copy and never got around to playing through it.

Will also check out serious sam HD eventually when it goes on sale. Don't want to drop $40 to get two copies of a budget game but I'd take them for $10 each.

Resident Evil is out...already played it on the consoles and loved it.

Most truly tactical FPS are also out because she rolls in guns blazing without thinking. She can hack it in a consolized tactical game like Rainbox Six 3 though. Anyone know if the R6 Vegas or GRAW games have pc coop, preferably LAN?

How is your wife with RTS? RA3 has excellent co-op if you think it would be fun for you two.

System Shock 2.

Yeah, it will take some effort, and you'll want to save a lot, but it's right up the FPS / RPG alley and well worth the effort. In fact, a friend from out of town and I try to play this thru every holiday season when we can find the time. I'm looking forward to it. :D

edit: nevermind, it was a question about Local play and not LAN play

The spec-ops co-op mode in modern warfare 2 is fantastic. It is quite possibly my favorite pc co-op ever.

Dawn of War 2 has both a campaign mode Co-op and Last Stand.
Swat 4 is awesome but can be quite difficult
Serious Sam HD & 2
Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 & 2

I've gotta say it's enraging how many companies expect you to buy two copies of a game just to play offline LAN with family members. This forced bundling of steam with dawn of war 2 is really outrageous.

Call of Duty World at War co-op is fun and Nazi Zombies is a blast. You can spend weeks exploring the 100+ custom Nazi Zombie maps. The Der Riese Pack a Punch maps add a new dimension, since you have to link the 3 teleporters together to get the weapons upgrade.

Star Wars BattleFront 2 was fun as you could play all the games characters including the battle droids. You can create a multiplayer game and both play on the same side against the bots.

Doom 3 has a mod where you can play up to 4 players in co-op called Last Man Standing.

Unreal Tournament 3 has bot support but they are quite nasty when they have vehicles even in the novice modes. It is fun driving and flying the various vehicles.

If you like driving games you can try GRID and Trackmania.

Another vote for SWAT 4, good for both sensible play or when drunk for larking about slugging each other in the head and screwing up missions with random flashbangs and tazering innocents :)

Another vote for Titan Quest.

Dungeon Siege II would suffice, but not nearly as enjoyable as TQ.

My brother and I are looking for a game to replace The World of Warcraft. Our favorites in the past have been The Age of Empires 2 w/ Conqueres expansion, Secret of Mana for SNES and Super Bomberman 5 gold edition for the SNES. There have been other games but thoose are the stand out ones. I am hoping that Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 will be good for 2 players,
