Anyone have more hours than me? 9700 and still going strong =)

(press up and reset/dvmode @ monitor info in menu)

Only 800 hours for me. I think it counts standby time as well. It is my spare LCD that serves as a TV.

I got you all beat.

After 3 1/2 years my 20WMGX2 has been rock solid. Best piece of electronic equipment I've ever bought.
I'm having a hard time finding a suitable replacement, for me it absolutely needs to be glossy. Guess it's
gonna be a while...

Well, you would think there would be a BETTER monitor by now, but there isn't because even if there are panels that are bigger and of equal quality, NEC doesn't really use the Opticlear coating anymore which means the image quality will not be as clear.

The best display technologies right now for larger screens are Plasma and eventually LED. Plasma is too big for most desktops, LED is too expensive. If you wait, there will be something.

You have to be careful because there is a 90 percent chance you will be unhappy with just about any replacement display unless you REALLY do your homework. So far, there is not a single monitor I have found that is a suitable replacement for the 20WMGX2.

Gotta love that Opticlear. Reflections you can do something about, grainyness is forever.

Neat trick! 4300 hours on both of mine.

When I googled for LCD monitor life expectancy, I got this:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1004&message=26471441

"The lifetime of the CCFL (the light behind the panel) is in the range of 25,000 to 50,000 hours until the CCFL can only attain 1/2 original maximum brightness. Lifetime of the LCD panel itself is around 300,000 hours."

Since most of us have had these for about 3 years, that gives some idea of how long these might last. Somehow I think I'll be using something completely different 20 years from now (think about what the monitor tech was in 1989).

8200 or so hours here. I'm still extremely happy with this monitor. If anyone has a chance to buy one, do! You'll thank yourself.

4848 hours here. The monitor has been rock solid with the exception of a bit of image retention in the top 1/4 inch of the screen. (I had the black line that separates Aero glass from the main Firefox window for at least a week before I re-enabled the Glasser Extension)

I just wish I would have bought 2!

No need to replace. Just get 2 more and put them in Eyefinity. Voila, triple the screen real estate! =)

mine has 7914 on it and looks great but after recieving my second one refurbished , Im strongly thinking about sending in for lamp replacement if that possible

My next monitor will likely be a 23-25" OLED panel, and that is not happening for awhile. I just hope they still have decent inexpensive offerings with a glossy coating.

Glossy = sharper by definition. Unless someone can figure out a way to get the light on matte screens to stop scattering so much WITHIN the plane of the coating material and making that fugly haze/grainy appearance, I will always prefer glossy.

Oled is my only hope for a decent screen though. If the TMOS panels are online before at a better price point I might go with one of those to wait until the OLED panel prices drop to mortal levels, but there it is.

I still love my nec though. First time I saw it was in Frys, EVERY other lcd around it looked like complete GARBAGE in comparison. It was not even close. Only problem was the 600 dollar price tag. But as with all things in tech.. usually, time raises the baseline performance level, at all pricepoints.

18880 hours.

Let's not speak of failing monitors. *shudders at the thought*

I really regret returning my second 20wmgx2 now. Two dead subpixels doesn't seem that big a loss when weighed against having a proper backup.

monitor 1: 7310 hours
monitor 2: 3424 hours

Bought refurbished from the nec sale. Hopefully they last a longgggg time.
