Lines are getting worse on this one. Still trying to hold off much further. The lines are getting more intense and are on the top of the screen and are getting further down, then go back to the top portion. Considering this monitor is over 10 years old, I think its pretty much at its last stages of life.

Till I can't see and it dies completely I'll still use this monitor though. The current crop of models just isn't to my liking.

Hopefully I can make it to the 2010 models around the corner. Doesn't look like I will be able to make it to OLED the way things are going.

I gave up waiting for OLED three years ago. Just save up and get the best IPS display you can afford.

Just get another CRT on ebay, problem solved if you're happy with it

This.

IPS LCD's are still pretty good. You may not get the inky blacks you get from an LCD, but at least you can lift up most LCDs with one arm! :)

or craigslist

No point in paying hundreds for a shitty lcd that you'll hate when you can find a nice crt for a fraction of the price.

I recently picked up a pair of great condition 21'' Trinitrons for only $20.

I still use an lcd for browsing tho.

I'm as much an advocate for CRT like LCD's as anyone; but here's reality; I don't use my CRT anymore. For daily use at home, I use a HP w2408H (a wide gamut 24" 5ms TN panel); and it sure does have a lot of faults, but it looks good and I can game with it and it's 1920x1200, so I don't want to part with it anytime soon.

Yet I still help people try to find good quality S-IPS monitors and TV's without hesitation because I use an S-IPS Dell 2007FP at work every day and know just how good and CRT like an LCD can be. Even on the odd occasion I can fire up a game on it, the pixel response is just way different looking compared to a generic TN. You don't see so much motion blur as more a slight twinkle and even with 16ms rated ISO response, this thing is faster in every way than my 5ms TN at home.

For my home theater rig I use a 42" plasma. I'd love to use it as my main display; but it's better suited to the living room - even though it beats the pants off any LCD in both motion clarity and color and viewing angles in every way.

Yet where's my CRT sitting? In a closet.

My best advice; your first CRT replacement doesn't have to be perfect; just get some good features and you'll be happy.

* 2ms GTG with RTA
* Glossy (CRT like in overall look)
* Good uniformity (backlight and color)

Everything else you don't have much control over. You can try going for an E-IPS panel; but there's a lot of defects and uniformity problems in the 2209WA and U2410. For the money, you might want to start with a less ambitious panel first.

Nah Im not going to be using computers anymore. Searching for a monitor was just a way to clear my mind at the time. But I am through with using computers anymore or using forums like this for that matter.

Won't see me here anymore.

Huh?

I was waiting for SED and now for OLED perhaps.

Find an FW900 in the meantime! 1920x1200 (technically up to 2304x1440), high refresh rates. It just weighs a lot!

Too bad they don't make 24"-28" plasmas. I'd take a modern plasma for a PC monitor :D

What?

Well, he's either gone to live in a cabin in the woods or he killed himself.:(

I guess addiction to technology can't easily be overcome and one goes through serious withdrawls trying to keep it off.

Therefore humans will constantly consume technology till the day they individually die.

Its like you find out who a human is who you adore and you want to pull them into your own life and keep them with you forever, unfortunately when one of them do something which upsets you, you feel extreme pain inside. But alas they don't know that.

As far as a replacement is concerned, it doesn't really matter because there are too many models coming too fast and spending extreme time behind a computer is not a good way to spend a life. It is just a tool to use at times. The IPS vs PVA vs TN debate just doesn't cut the mustard however. True color monitors are still pricey such as the HP TrueColor for instance. TN is good for someone who is colorblind or doesn't need clear colors because of its color process. PVA vs IPS is a battle of technological might as well as OLED and others and every year that passes the companies improve their existing products as new fabs come online with new patents learned.

I hear that there may be a 20.1" OLED monitor product for 2010. Considering I am at 19", this one will be of serious consideration.
