Hi,

I found this Pantone colorvision spyder colorimeter at work but it's so old I don't know if it'll work well enough to calibrate anything and if there's any software to support it.

It comes with something called GalleryCAL from 2002 and I assume this is probably useless these days. Does anyone know of replacement software that should be able to use this device? I am not looking for miracles, just to get some understanding of how the calibration process works.

A Colorimeter tends to loose accuracy over time. Pros generally calibrate their colorimeters/spectroradiometers once a year. This can only be done by a technician using special equipment (like spectracal.com).

This a good place to start

The original Spyder is a bit rubbish. Get something newer for reliable calibration.
