Im not sure if I should call verizon and try to get my droid replaced or not. How often does your droid usually lock up? For the first week or so it never seemed to lock up but now about once a day ill end a call and my screen will go black and it will just lock up. the shortcut buttons on the bottom of the phone will still light up and the backlight on the phone will come on but the screen stays black. Does it do this to anyone else? Thanks for any info!

mine has never locked up. been using it for about a week. only complaint i have is the loose slider and the gap between the screen and the keyboard.

On the phone with verizon now getting a new one lol

Did you even try an OS reload before you get the entire thing replaced? I've had very little issues with lockups but I'd suggest that first.

theres been some talk of an early batch of droids with some hardware issues. i read it on howardforums or droidforums, if i find it i will post it.

yeah i heard that 2.... verizon is not cooperating with me seems like im going to be on the phone with them for a few hours.... if you find that post please do post it here so i can link verizon straight 2 it lol

I had it lock up yesterday night exactly how you described. Black screen, phone buttons light up. Had to battery pull and it's all fine again.

souless how long have you had your droid? mine didn't lock up for like a week and after the first lock up it has gotten more and more frequent... LOOK OUT!!!!! lol

I'd say....two days now? I have until Jan 15th to return it so I'll defintely be on the look out for it. Still better then my daily Storm 1 reboots. :D

yeah for sure.... Ive got one in the mail right now coming my way. Hopefully this one will be better. Other than the resets this thing has been freakin amazing

I've had mine for 2 weeks today, and have not experienced any lockups/force closes that couldn't be fixed by uninstalling the last app or 2 that I installed. Some of the apps don't play well with 2.0, and probably won't for some time.
I'd say hard reset that baby, and start installing things and testing slowly to see if an app is causing the issue. Like someone said above, there were a decnet amount of bad units, and I think Verizon has to swap them out if they are rebooting.

Im not using any apps that alot of people with the droid arent using so i am just getting a new one. The only app i have paid for is the snes emulator which was only like $2 so i will just rebuy it

Aren't they linked to your google account? Should be no need to.

I think after a reset or the new one is set up, if you go to marketplace and view your downloads, anything that you bought will be in there and you can re-download it.

Mine has locked up once. I loaded some beta game from the Market and it completely siezed. Took a battery pull to get it going.

Also, the first week I had the phone, the email app crashed repeatedly. Out of the blue it stopped crashing and has been rock solid ever since.

Overall, the phone has been pretty reliable. 10x better than the POS Motorola Q it replaced.

There's a thread on the Motorola forums where the 'Moto Experts' advise returning any Droid that regularly cold reboots (motorola logo before the droid logo). Seems a manufacturing defect.

verizon is supposed to be sending me a new one.... Should have asked how they were shipping it...

Are you saying that if you power it off, then power it back on manually, you should see the Droid logo, then Moto logo? Or is this only after a lockup/self-reboot?

Yes I'd love to know this as well. I see the Moto logo first then the Droid logo.

I think the Moto logo before the Droid logo is the normal sequence for a cold boot. I'm pretty sure get quad was referring to a cold reboot as a full power-down/restart of the phone.

My first two phones would crash or lock up fairly frequently - after getting both of those replaced (the second one crashed and froze on the VZW employee as they were trying to tell me it was me having too many programs open :D), the third phone simply has never hard locked or reset.
