Pretty good interview about WarHammer Online, looks like they are trying really hard to make it better, than last year.

They even have a new endless "free" trial, that includes all the changes and fixes in the latest 1.3.2 patch. They say this new "trial" really shows off the game at it's best state right now. They say if you haven't played the game since this Summer or before, the new trial shows how far the game has come. I would join this new trial if anyone else cares to play with me ? Check it out one more time ?

Not saying they haven't made improvements -- but one thing that Mythic does a very good job at is pumping up their userbase by making all kinds of promise. The sad thing is that only parts of what they say actually make it into the game.

It may be different with Warhammer -- but I doubt it.

I've always enjoyed WAR (alongside WoW), but I've not been able to play recently. I'll go back and see what's new.

Some pics from tonight playing the new free trial.

I still haven't loaded it up damnit...is it fun? Hoping for a "free" replacement for AoC and Champions Online until I can renew one and buy the other.

It is different. Do not go in expecting WoW, it is more of a PvP group game. Sure to start off you run solo easy quests to level up. But there are cool little areas called PQ's = Public Quests where you auto join a group doing a bigger quest, which is fun. And the meat of the game is based on castle sieges, big groups of the two different factions either defending or attacking the castle.

And the game is still a little rough around the edges, it is no where near the polish of WoW. But then again WoW has had 5 years and BILLION$ of dollars that's with a "b" to help fund the development. Where WAR is only 1 years old, and maybe 5% of that kind of cash for development. So not fair to compare

To me WAR feels like it should have been awesome, and a real competitor to WoW, but somewhere early in the game design certain things were just not thought through and hacked together, and the game just never got completed the way originally thought of.

I think war has the best universe for a mmo however mythic has done everything in their power to ruin it and piss people off. the game is just packed with awesome character and ideas, but then faceplants on basic concepts. mythic really put too much content early in the game and almost nothing at the end which is where people wanted it. for example, tier 1 and tire 2 open rvr zones where a ghost town about two weeks after launch and its still almost impossible to do many of the pqs because there are wwwaaayyy too many pqs and not enough people to do them. mythic has way too many classes and skill trees that they simply can not balance in an effective manner. the crafting was a frigging trainwreck and still is. the game engine just sucks and can not handle the type of game they made, (and it looks like shit) and combat always feels clunky. plus the massive patch changes piss everyone off that still plays.

its perfectly fair to compare this to wow since both games are competing for the same players. mythic had plenty of resources to make a good polished game and released a game in such a poor state they are still picking up the pieces a year later. I've been playing war off and on since launch and the game is still a mess. I just fired up the endless trial to see 1.3.2. still looks like the same old crap too me. I still have some hope for the game, however it would take at least a few more large patches and a relaunch by ea to save it at this point.

If they are adding a free to play element to the game, then I'd say it is in fact dead. I have not played since the week the game came out, so I'll give it another go at least.

That pretty much kills it for me honestly...I'm a solo player. :( Unless there was a [H] group that played regularly, I probably will just skip this (unless I can't tear away from it after playing an hour or two, which I HIGHLY doubt).

I will play with ya, and I am sure a few others on the [H] can get together to form a small guild :)

I say at least down load the free trial, and try it out. See what it is like. You might hate it and think it is a beta and unfinished game. Or you might say, hey this is refreshing and different to WoW, and something worth playing casually.

The "Endless Free Trial" != "Free to Play". You can only progress through Tier 1, and there are limits on the account, but it isn't time limited. You can play in Tier 1 forever with those limitations if you want.

This is designed to combat some of those other "2 week, 10 hour" trials being offered by other games.

I'll start up again. I'm on PhoenixThrone, Order. I have a little T1 Dwarven Engineer who would love to group with you guys, and my old T4 Elven Swordmaster!

I honestly had some of the most PVP fun, EVER, in WAR. Riding from objective to objective in T2, T3, and T4. Castle sieges. Having 50+ people involved in bringing down an enemy castle, setting up siege weapons etc...

The only problem WAR has in my opinion, is that it needs a HUGE population density for enjoyment to come out to its fullest. Mythic took a gamble at launch by having a fuckton of servers knowing full well that when MMOs launch, they usually have too many people on too few servers, that cause people to leave because there aren't enough "a small rat" to complete the noob quests. Unfortunately, they didn't realize that their game is MUCH better with more people, so servers felt empty at times. As people left, it spiraled. I'd love to see them make the right decisions to bring people back. If that's "free" somehow, that's fine with me. DDO experienced a huge resurgence with its free-to-play content. I hope EA gives Mythic a huge infusion of cash, creative liberty, and allows them the policies to really bring people back.
