Need a new sound card to complement my Audio Technica AD700 headphones. Primary use would be gaming. Would like to pay $100 but if everything at this price point won't really bring out the AD700's potential then don't mind paying more.

Thanks

Im getting an auzentech x-fi forte for x-mas. A lot of people have good things to say about it, and it has a dedicated headphone jack with an integrated headphone amp.

and the x-fi chip is intended for gaming, at least more so than some of the asus cards that are awesome for processing recorded sound in movies or music. X-Fi cards are better suited for the synthesized sounds in video games

Microcenter had the forte on sale a couple of weeks ago for $129, looks like their normal price is $145 if i remember correctly. might be able to find it cheaper around the net.

that's my recommendation

I have the XtremeGamer PCI; there's nothing wrong with it. Lots of people rage in reviews over Creative alone, or they have an incompatible motherboard or another issue they blame on the card.

X-RAM hasn't been used for much and I don't find myself at any disadvantage; but the hardware accelerated OpenAL and very clean sound to begin with is a big advantage. In comparison, the Omega is not so much a gaming card; more Pro-audio. It will process everything in a software dsp; no hardware acceleration. If all you want is a good DAC and clean sound, it's great though.

I find that the X-Fi drives my headset very nicely. Volume levels are good and audio is clean. A dedicated headphone amp is always nice; really gives some thump; but it's not worth the premium you'll pay for a high end soundcard over a mainstream X-Fi if you're just gaming (note: this HT Omega is the CMI 8770, not the high end 8788 w/ amp).

I'm not an audiophile in the least, but I am very happy with the Forte with my ATH-A700's.

I actually ended up picking up a X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro from a friend of mine who was parting his rig. Couldn't resist the good deal.

Anyone have experience with this card? Should get around to installing it this weekend.
