Aion Trailer Teases Future Update

Aion was the epitome of "looks great, plays like shit." This trailer simply reinforces that notion in my mind.

nope. tonso ppl cancelled out after first 2 months. Fun up to level 30, then its a brick wall of boring.

This is interesting. I was wondering how they game was doing, but I hadn't seen any recent threads regarding Aion.

Aion had a lot of hype, then died down quickly

the game is slow and boring imo, I played the beta, i wasn't very impressed.

if it's not fun after the first few hours

why would it be any fun at the endgame?

why would it be worth slogging through for?

I dunno...I missed out on the whole World of Warcraft thing...then got Guild Wars when it first was released...played it thru the last expansion/DLC, did the whole PvP thing...always wanted to get into an MMO but figured i was too late for WoW, so I got Aion when it was released...it seems ok to me...I do think it's a bit grindy at times and gets annoying but when I don't feel questing or killing I level my armorcrafting...being that it's my first real mmo I don't really know what to expect, i only play maybe a couple of hours a night but there seems to be plenty to keep me busy so far..Im level 29 btw. Good graphics, great music...although after Guild Wars and thinking the combat and skill set rules were great in that game, the combat in Aion seems to be button mashing skill 1 2 3 4 over and over but I think I'm gonna keep my account going atleast thru level 50 if I ever get there just for a sense of completion lol.

Though that trailer looks nice, Aion was to boring for me. i only did the first month since it was free. It seems way to linear for me. making an alt was not fun cause you started in the same place and did all the same quest. usually, alts brought some added life for me but not in this game.

That trailer looks great. The game does get very grindy in the mid 30s. I am still playing, and still enjoying it, but I will be looking forward for the additional content.

unlike other games getting to cap level is only beginning in mmo

trailer looks really cool. I'm at 31, it is a brick wall. I canceled my subscription but I think i'll pick it up again sometime when there aren't so many other new games coming out. Endgame is pretty sweet from what i've played / heard about.

Dunno what you guys are talking about, I'm enjoying Aion. I hate mmo's that skip the leveling and go straight to endgame.

I am loving Aion as well. I have hit level 50 (level cap) with my Chanter, who can be seen here, and am still enjoying the game. I am currently working towards my Miragent Armor set (class specific uber gear) and I just started an alt. As with any MMO, it has gone through growing pains. The current "forum complain bait" is lack of end-game content. To those people I point to WoW and say, "Remember when the only end-game content was UBRS and MC?" The game is new, and the content will come.

That being said (lol Curb), this game is definitely not easy. It costs a lot of real world time to earn money (which you will spend TONS of whether you want to or not) and level up. Nothing is handed to you in this game. But for those ready for a MMO that is more challenging than other options out there (IMO), this is the one for you. Come play with me!

People who approach ANY new MMO with this opinion will inevitably be the ones complaining about lack of end game content. An MMO is about the journey, not the destination. Sure things may become more enjoyable as you earn that awesome new skill or you get that nice new weapon. But take time to enjoy the content and the environments in levels 1-49. You are only cheating yourself by blindly blitzing to level cap. It's like saying, "The real game doesn't start until you've made it to the final boss(for a single player game)."

Totally agree about the jopurney. I finally have my first end game level WoW character after playing since November 2004, the month WoW launched, it took me five years to have a character at level cap  I am uber casual, and have like 10 characters all in the Level 50 - 65+ range, just that Northrend is a total grind fuck fest, that makes me want to kill myself, I hate leveling in Northrend takes for gosh dang ever, each level.

My point is, my one Level 80 character, I stopped playing a couple weeks once I hit end cap. It got boring very fast, after I did most of the dungeons several times over, I asked myself, ok now what ? Get purple Epic gear, check...ok now what ? I went back to my few characters in Level 60+ Outlands zones, and found that questing in Zanagamarsh was way more fun than end gaming at 80.

So if Aion is a "fun" journey and cool quests and zones to go through I might like it ? How does it do with EYEFINITY triple screen gaming ?

I played WoW for many years, I played Warhammer Online when it came out, I gave the Aion beta a try, neither game is/was a WoW killer. But neither was anywhere near as fun to play as WoW either, which is probably why they failed to begin with.

I did however play Guild Wars and all it's expansion packs, it's more of a casual type of game to play than any true time sinker.

Aion fails because the developers did not make it fun to play.

I think MMO's need to evolve to be able to topple WoW

Yeah, the IGN article with Blizzard was good stuff.

One of the Blizzard employees even said it himself that people should stop trying to make WoW clones and try to make something new and fun for the MMORPG genre. Nobody wants to play another WoW clone if they have the real thing that they've invested so many years in already.

I bet if they made a slight WoW clone but offered all kinds of incentives to play it, it would have a greater chance of being successful.

Ok, here's another thought

how successful do you think Blizzard's "Unnamed MMO" that is upcoming for release will be?

Aion is a grind Korean game. The grind is small to moderate compared to games like L2 and FFXI, though. There are quests, but not enough to avoid grinding altogether. If you recall though, MMO's used to be all grind. That was the point. I think Aion has struck a nice balance. Most quests can be solo'ed or run with 2-3 people. Very few quests require a full group. The grinding aspect is what teaches you how the other classes work, how to function as a full and efficient party, and on some level trains you for the group PvP you will be involved in later.

Aion is a PvP game at heart, but it is balanced for group PvP and not 1v1 PvP. As a Chanter, no one knows this reality more than me. It takes a lot of hard work to be a successful PvP Chanter in 1v1 situations. It is the pure skill class in Aion. Anyone can roll a Ranger, SM, or Sorc and be good at PvP. It takes true talent to succeed as a Chanter. I have fought many hundreds of humbling duels in order to train myself to defeat any class in 1v1 PvP (yes, even Templars and Clerics). You need to know how to effectively PvP in a group to succeed otherwise.

I like Aion so far. I think WoW has gotten entirely too easy. There's absolutely no challenge left there for me. Every patch the devs feed the latest gear to the bad players so they can catch up. I got the hint and decided to do the same with my subscription. When Blizzard releases new content, I'm going to burn through the heroics to catch up and run the new stuff once or twice to see the new sights. Then cancel until next content patch. Why get a full set of gear when I can just wait at the welfare line next patch.

Aion is different for me because I feel the need to party unlike WoW where you can solo to epics. What's the point of a mmo if you can solo the entire thing? Aion requires you to group up or be bored out of your skull killing monster X over and over. My buddies do so much stuff ingame that I neglected my quests and just abandoned tons of them. I've never done the 1/200 repeatable quests. At the later stages of the game there's a grind quest for awesome gear, but I'm not burned out because I've never ground anything in the game so far.

Maybe I was blessed meeting the right people at the right time, but that's my experience. And since they fixed the fortress battles so I no longer crash, I'm ecstatic! When I log back in, it's dungeon time and meetings to discuss the upcoming fortress battle strategies before I try to get my last 3 levels. Our server is low pop so everyone works together to take the abyss.

Oh and that trailer makes me want to upgrade my mobo and processor. I wonder if Aion takes advantage of Crossfire? I haven't upgraded since WoW started it's decline and this is very exciting for me.

Have to quote on this and say how it only took me like 6-8 hours of intensive playing to get from 79 to 80 on my first char, and something like 4-5 with my second. The required XP for next "ding" didn't grow too much over the levels either.
Though it did get old after I hit my second 80, I haven't played it in a week.

Unless questing is considered a grind, I don't see how that's remotely possible. This term gets thrown around too loosely nowadays.

To me, grinding is something that has no upper limit no matter how fast you go.

6 to 8 hours from 79 to 80 doesn't sound too bad. It pretty much gets to that point around the level 40's in Aion lol. Also hardcore grinding to get to 50.
