New Swiftech Apogee XT - Claims to Best Heatkiller 3.0

Ordered XT yesterday, timing was perfect since it was time to do the yearly renewal of cooling water. Also found small traces of leak in my PSU cooling loop - magicool radiator with polycarbonate reservoir :rolleyes: so I had to order a new radiator anyway :(

"Apogee XT issue with Gigabyte boards

Technical bulletin:

ISSUE:

We have just uncovered an interference issue with Gigabyte boards socket 1366, X58 chipset; the model numbers are: GA-EX58-EXTREME, GA-EX58-UD3R GA-EX58-UD3R-SLI, GA-EX58-UD4P and GA-EX58-UD5.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

All these boards feature a group of caps located flush with the CPU socket (left hand side , between socket and I/O ports).

The edge of the Apogee XT copper base plate is slightly interfering with these caps by a few tenth of a millimeter. This may prevent proper installation, and could cause damage to the board.

OTHER MAKES AND MODELS:

In the best of our knowledge, the issue is STRICTLY limited to the above mentioned Gigabyte models, and does not affect ANY other models or brands on the market at this time.

RESOLUTION:

We are in the process of implementing a fix for this, consisting in adding a chamfer to the Apogee XT base plate that will provide sufficient clearance for these caps. Validation of the solution will be finalized by Monday October 12th. All Apogee XT blocks will subsequently receive the revision.

Early adopters of the Apogee XT and owners of the Gigabyte boards are advised of the following:

While it has been reported to us that it is possible to carefully mount the block by gently nudging the caps to the left while mating the block to the CPU, we do not recommend using the Apogee XT with these boards until a revision to the base plate has been implemented.

Users can either return their block to the point of purchase for a full refund, or send us back their block directly for an immediate revision. All efforts will be made to maintain a turnaround time of 24 hours.

I once had an issue with a heatkiller block and I got to tell you they're customer service sucks. Took weeks to talk to someone from their company. That's why even though I have a heatkiller 3.0 I'm installing the XT instead among a few other reasons. Maybe I'll sell the Heatkiller...
 
Does anyone know if I can reuse my old Fuzion V2 Backplate so I don't have to pull the motherboard? Or will I have to use the supplied XT backplate when switching to the Apogee XT?

Gabe has said they will be coming out with the XT in a kit. Right now they can't keep up with demand so the kit will not come out until they can catch up with demand. I really like the XT though, i have not used the HC block but can say it beats the Dtek V2 and EK supreme by 2-5C at load.;)

XT block is great, almost impossible to mount incorrectly. I am getting better temps with my 4ghz i7 and this block than I did with a 3.6ghz Q6600 and my old D-tek Fuzion v1. Low-30s idle, high 50s load (OCCT) with the XT & i7 plus Vreg and full-cover motherboard blocks. I was getting mid-40s idle and mid-60s load (Prime small FFTs) with the Dtek and just the Q6600. HUGE difference.

Beware: you'll have to reposition the nozzles if you are running 3/4" outer diameter tubing. Even the screw-style clamps won't fit between the hoses without some finesse.
 
Just ordered my new Watercooling setup from FrozenCPU last night and went with this block. I'm very excited, my last Swiftech block was great! After scouring the internet for reviews of this new block, I couldn't find a single negative or downside.

Went with TFC X-changer 360, TFC tubing, Apogee XT, Swiftech MCP-655B pump, Koolance BKT-HX001P adjustable radiator bracket, and the new Danger Den RES-005 res.
