Seems like the buzz is rather low for a "AAA" (supposedly :p ) game.

Release date was 2 days ago, anyone playing it yet?

Reviews from metacritic look pretty damn good, even user scores are pretty high.

Thinking about picking it up, despite the linearity and repetitiveness of the first one.

Impressions? Thoughts?

Or is everyone playing MW2? :D

So far it is better then the first one. I'm a good deal into it.

Big plus is that you can buy things like throwing knifes now instead of having to steal them. You can also spend money on some property, better weapons, artwork, etc.

The game does look cool, but I still gotta buy uncharted 2 before I get this. Plus mw2 on ps3 is so fun lol

I've been playing it so much that I haven't gotten past level 48 on MW2 in a while and I haven't even opened L4D2 which I picked up at the midnight launch as well. This game rocks. it improves on the first game in every conceivable way and there is literally a TON to do. Think Oblivion, but with a super badass dual blade wielding assassin. It's that good this time around.

bought it after work on launch day and haven't played mw2 since(I will after I beat AC2).
Assassins Creed 1 had so much potential but was redundant and missing some good rpg elements to make the giant world worthwhile. Even though it was a decent game with great graphics it still had a lot of short-comings that I think have all been addressed in 2 and then some. Remembering back to AC1 I can't think of anything I thought that was missing or needed improvement that hasn't been added or improved in AC2, except the fact you still can't use the bow & arrows.

My only problem with this game is I had to get it for 360 since there isn't much of a definitive release date for PC yet. Oh well, I bought the 360 vga cable and this game looks way better on 1 of my dell 2209wa's than AC1 ever did on my cheapo-insignia 27" 720p tv.

Story wise is it worth it to finish part 1. I'm maybe halfway through but got alittle bored of the same missions newish settings of the game.

Yea it would help.

I will say the fighting system in this game sucks though. Seems like the best weapon is none at all. Just use your fists and grab your attackers weapon from them.

I'm in love with this game! It is far better than the original and the storyline is fantastic. I wouldn't say it's better than Uncharted 2, but it's really a fantastic game to play through.

I definitely want this, but I'm afraid it got lost in the release of 5 million other games. I forgot it was even coming so soon.
This is on my list of games I'll be grabbing around Christmas.
For those that liked the original - how does this one stack up? I'm guessing there's more variety to the missions, but what else does it bring to the table?

I like it a lot, better than first one. I bought this on ps3 and graphics look worse than first one when I was playing it on PC with everything maxed. Too bad pc release of new one is next year.

Sadly I'm going to wait for the PC version...

I might borrow a friend's for the xbox if I can't wait.

Any idea when the PC version would be out? If it's early enough in the year, I might wait. 1080p/high res textures/8xAA wins as long as I don't have to wait forever to get it.

Games story was pretty good. Beat it last night.

I'm missing some of the visions though so I need to go find them even though I figured out what it was showing. Need to go through and try to find them.

When it gives you an option for info on a specific building or area it tells you if one is there. The problem is it doesn't say if you have alread found it yet. Going to have to go through all 20 again and see what I can find.

Considering picking this up after reading some reviews. Seems like a solid game with many improvements over the first.

Not to derail this thread much, but I've never played the original Assassins creed. I just added it to my gamefly queue, so if I enjoy it, I'll probably check the sequel out as well.

The first game is pretty good. It's flat-out great for the first few hours. Once you visit each city once - you can stop. They keep sending you back to the same places over and over to do the same things.
The boss fights are all good, but the latter half of the game is pretty repetitious.

i really hated the first game after the first hour or 2. It was so repetetive. And you could beat the whole game only using the X button.

If the second one really fixes all of the issues I had witht he first, i might check it out eventually.
Sounds so far so good tho, just a lot of other games atm.

The point of the first game was to create an art out of assassinating people and fighting which I dont think a lot of people understood the point. It is a sandbox game just like GTA but just set in 1100s... GTA is just as repetitious: go here kill that guy talk to next guy then repeat. "And you could beat the whole game only using the X button." Come on seriously? It is the attack button of course it is going to be your main button you press... that is like saying you could beat Mario with just the A button... or modern warfare 2 with the trigger button.... that is just a silly thing to say. The point of sandbox games is to do whatever you want to do in the game and figure out your own way to play it. If you want to beat it just spamming the attack button over and over then that is your choice or you could pull off counters, throw a guy into another guy switch to throwing knives and toss one at a guy or run up a wall and jump off it on top of guy and stab him. There are many ways to kill a person in the game you just have to figure them out which sadly I don't think people figured that out. I really believe why most people hated the game was because it was the cool game to hate on at the time and never really played it and/or gave it a chance just like the cool game to hate on now is modern warfare 2 which is sad. That being said I really loved the first one so I am loving the second one even more. You have a lot more arsenal at your disposal to kill people now and the flow of the game seems to be a lot smoother. If you at least enjoyed the first one some what then you owe it to yourself to play the second one because it is a lot better when compared to the first. One the flip side if you didn't enjoy the first one then more than likely you are not going to enjoy the second one.

I agree, yet i always use my hidden blades, unless there's a guy with the halberd/spear weapon, then i steal that from them, because IMO, the spears are THE most fun in the game to use.

i mean, who doesnt like impaling someone through the stomach and them falling backwards onto the spear and them just kind of sliding down the spear.

i wish i could always have a spear/halberd, but sadly i can only pick it off the guy and run around with it instead of free-running with it :(

nbd though, the hidden blades is nice, it's fun to get the combo in where you jab the guy in the chest a few times in rapid succession.

The game looked really promising when I saw the videos of it early on. I haven't really been following it too much since and had hoped some of the repetitive gameplay wouldn't happen but that's a crying shame. I honestly never even realized it had been released yet. Oops..

Is this game good on consoles or is it another game that is better on the PC? I will buy it but not sure if to get it for PS3 or PC. I wanted Dragon Age for PS3 until I read that it has frame rate issues on PS3 and you can't zoom out much during battles like on the PC either.

action games on consoles = good.
hardcore rpg that's designed for the pc on console = bad

here's something that might help your decision in PC or PS3:
it's out for PS3 and there isn't even a release date yet for PC, just Q1 2010 I believe.
So unless you want to wait you're gonna have to get the console version. I did(for 360) and have no regrets.

Wow bro... Paragraphs aren't evil.

The first AC was shit. I enjoyed the free running and the killing people, but it was very repetitive.

AC2 has addressed a lot of my complaints about the first one, but I still wish it was more like Splinter Cell or Hitman.

One thing I am glad about is that so far I haven't gotten the counter attack that so over powered Altair. Which makes the best solution is to hit and run.

The blending is better and being able to lower your notoriety is a great advancement.

OK, didn't know PC version was so far away so PS3 version it will be. I like Infamous on PS3 so should like ACII also.

I'm pretty sure you have the counterattack from the very beginning of the game. Maybe in the first street brawl with punches only you can't, but I'm pretty sure I was countering the whole game. I really don't mind the counter thing, it's better than being just like dynasty warriors, but it still annoys me how much it is like dynasty warriors, with all the guards waiting their turn to attack you 1 at a time. They should take a note from demons souls for ac3 combat.

I should mention that the new uplay system that have(which is like their own version of live) sucks balls. I still haven't been able to get into the extra level from buying it from game stop. You can also unlock another level via uplay. It came up on the screen once and went away. It is extra crap that I'm mad at the developer for. If they continue to make one use it for for things that should be in the normal game it might stop me from buying a game from them in the future.

On a side note they do not allow you to use the word balls in your player status update. I first tried typing "This site fucking sucks" and it wouldn't take. I then changed it to "This site sucks balls" and it still came back as me cussing. Ended up leaving it at "This site sucks".

I'm still playing MW2, i'd love this, or boarderlands... I really don't like owning 2 games i really want to play at the same time. It causes my head to explode, and the girlfriend to feel abandoned :) I may pick this up and then head to boarderlands next summer or so. I'll get a lot of online play out MW2, but damn did I love the first Assassins Creed game.

People even said it was shitty and repetitive, but I enjoyed it. I'll just wait for it to drop a bit in price, and maybe pick up a used copy.

You know, I think there is a part of your soul missing if you don't enjoy poisoning two guards in a group and watching them attack their buddies.

Bought into the hype and hated the first one. This one looks promising, but I'll wait a bit before purchasing.

go to the villa trainer and do long weapons training ;)

I love fighting with the hidden blade/Short sword. Hidden blade is just fun cause counter killing is so rewarding, short blade was just fast and ridiculous until I picked up the best weapon on the game which I shant name for spoilers.

Also, anyone else think the epic armor also looks pretty damn epic?

Overall, I think it was 20 dollars well spent. (Traded in 2 games at best buy that I never planned on playing again ;) )

i've already done all the training and bought stuff for my house, all i have to do now is collect 40 more feathers or something around venice.

and the sword your talking about is altiar's sword, right?

i wish they would've included the ability for a spear/hasta to be holstered or something while you free run, i love using them.

The co-op guys spent 20 minutes gushing over it. Consensus seems to be they fixed everything that was wrong with the first one. I borrowed the first one, played an hour or two, and returned it the day after, so.. not getting this right now.

Also, the PS3 version is inferior, so looks like I'll wait for this to hit the bargain bin.

Inferior how?

Draw distance and frame-rate are mentioned.

They didn't do direct comparisons of the visuals, but it looked much more washed out than the 360's graphics. The 360 had more contrast and vibrance to the colors while the PS3 looked more like that terrible washed out sandstone color from AC1.

Watching those 5 guys gush about it makes me even more pissed off that I have to wait until some time next year for the PC version. I haven't even considered getting one of this-gen's consoles in the past 4 years and suddenly it doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

I loved the first game and did every single mission before all the assassinations. The story is pretty awesome and the twist at the end was kind of expected but it played out pretty uniquely. The aniums premise is pretty awesome and should make for an EPIC third game.
