Hey guys my computer is in my sig. I posted this over on the games forum and nothing suggested has worked. Its now been a few days since I got MW2 and I still cant play it.

PROBLEM: The game starts up and then freezes after a few seconds. I have to crl alt del to close it.

I've updated the drivers for everything, the gpu, chipset, soundcard, everything and nothing works. To make it even more sick, occasionally, and I mean rarely the stupid game does work and I'm able to play.

Here is another site where some other people are experiencing my problem.
http://www.unigamesity.com/how-to-fix-modern-warfare-2-problemsfreezings/

Are any of you guys going through this? Any ideas?

Thanks for all the help

UPDATE: I finally got it to work!! Apparently all you have to do is leave the program open for a few minutes and it just starts to work. Its retarded I know but it works. THanks for all the help guys!!

I don't have the 5800 series yet but I do have Win 7 64+MW2+Ati and I am having no issues. In fact, the game runs superbly and I have to say I like it. Although I do miss dedicated servers, it is still fun for what it is.

Sounds like a bad install or something conflicting with it in the background.

I have another computer that the wife uses and MW2 works fine on that one. Its got a 4850 and almost the same setup as mine.

Ive tried to uninstall and reinstall a bunch of times but it still doesnt work

Your wife plays COD MW2??? That's BADASS!!! hahahaha....

Do you get any error messages? I'm about to install MW2 on a win7x64 with ATI 5850 tonight. So if I get probs I'll post here...

I dont get any error msgs just a good old fashioned freeze

Are you overclocked? If so have you tried installing the game at stock and launching it at stock? I mean running stock is somewhat blasphemy here at the [H], but at times it is a necessary evil that must be done to get at the truth of things...

Same equipment, no problem here.

Did you check Windows "Event Viewer" to identify exactly what the error message/afending service is? I highly suggest this. Event ID? Event Description?

.

MW2 is one of the games locking my W7 64 bit with an HD 5770 up. But then every game is. I've ruled out just about everything I can. Sometimes I can play several missions in a row, sometimes I'm locked up within a few minutes of the level loading.

Do you have the updated BIOS for your motherboard ? It can be HD5870 UVD failing to play a intro video, which got fixed by latest BIOS releases for many boards. Since i updated BIOS on my Gigabyte P55-UD5 i got no UVD lockups, no big mouse pointers, none of the bugs from before...

Running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Sapphire 4850x2 2GB, Gigabyte EX58-UD5

Ran for hours last night just fine. Froze once, actually, but no other issues. Running latest drivers off ATI's site.

Have you tried taking out your soundcard and all other extra devices in your computer?

Try installing with bare minimum. I think in your last thread you said you formated and updated everything then installed MW2...try formatting with a fresh Win 7 and update nothing, then install MW2.

Seems to work fine for me. Running 64bit Windows 7 and 9.11 catalysts (beta). Smooth as buttah.

Works fine here with Cat 9.10s and Win 7 Ultimate 64....specs in sig.

This game (MW2) is like a benchmark. It will load your GPU to 98-99% all the time, but will run at +100 FPS. Actually I did measure the frame rate in Rio mission. On stock it is at average ~110FPS. At 960MHz (GPU) ~ 130FPS. There were spikes above 300FPS and drops to 70FPS. GPU thermal load is intensive and some glitches in HD5870 cooling system may reveal.

Win7 X64+MW2+ATI 58xx no problem. Completed install and played for 30 mins. No freezes. OP check your RAM!

My game freezes for about 5 seconds after getting to the main menu.

A ok from there on.

Hmm I havent upgrade the mobo drivers yet so Ill try that. I am running at stock so I dont think thats it.

Ill have to check the Windows Event viewer and give you guys a run down of whats going on. What should I post on here to help you guys diagnois the problem?

When I saw MW2 in the title, I thought you might be trying to play Mech Warrior 2... but alas.. I was wrong.

The program iw4mp.exe version 0.0.0.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

Thats what shows up in the Event Viewer

5770 in Win7x64, no issues currently.

Experienced things like you did when loading certain MP maps but that was because of a bum installation (bad DVD, whoever Activision hired to print them made a lot of mistakes), verified file integrity with Steam, downloaded fresh files and it got working again.

Only had one peculiar dialogue window crash since then, in MP.

COD MW2 + win7 x64 + Cat 9.11 + 5870 = No issues, smooth as buttah.

Running a Creative Audigy 4 Platinum as well. I'm running this card until it craps out on me or future platforms no longer support PCI.

Win7 x64, HD5870 (1Ghz / 1300), 9.10 WHQL, specs in sig - all overclocked and water cooled, Raid 0. No issues here played for hours SP and MP.
