Were you one of the million banned from Xbox Live?

I love the quote from one of the banned players : "A player banned from Xbox Live told the U.K.'s Radio 1 that he was "gutted" and "distraught" by the decision. The player admitted paying an electronics shop more than $100 to modify his Xbox so it could play pirated games."
The guy admits playing pirated games, but he's "distraught" over getting booted? He's lucky the game industry doesn't have their own version of the RIAA (yet),getting banned would be the least of his problems.

Yeah I laughed at a couple of whiners yesterday on xbox live, they all went out and bought new Xbox's so this is clearly a good move by MS.

Anyone dumb enough to mod their console and have it hooked up to live deserves the ban. I don't see the draw of modded consoles either, half the reason to play 360 is to play it online.
I guess it's lucky for them they can go get an arcade for $200 and get a $100 walmart gift card with it, hey maybe they can even try buying their games with it.

lol qft, when will people learn, i used to be one of those people who thought it was ok to pirate everything, but now that i make music and sell it i realize that it sucks to have someone rip of your creative property that you worked really hard on and spent lots of hours doing. not cool people

Except for that fact that everyone in music has enough money anyways. Or that companies just make money off CDs and that the artist makes money off touring. Nevermind the fact that the record label upfronts most of the touring expenses or nevermind that fact that every artist who spends a decent amount of time making money is in it to hopefully get picked up by a major record label.

Once people understand this, then we can move forward

That's not true.

In college, I was caught downloading a torrent for AoE3 and the school received a cease and desist letter from something along the lines of the RIAA. I can't, for the life of me, remember what it was called.

Don't make the same mistake I did. Had my school not kept my information private, I don't know what would have happened to me.

Heh, smart move by Microsoft. Ban all the hackers/stealers so they are forced to buy again.

Next week's article, "Xbox Console Sales Surge by 1 million."

Its actually a wonderful business decision by Microsoft, the 'ol bait and twitch. Ban users who hack their consoles once a year, just before the holiday season. This year, they time it days before MW2 (a game thats breaking sales records), KNOWING that these guys they ban are rushing out to buy another 360 asap to play MW2.

MS could ban all year, but what makes it so amusing is they wait until the perfect time to strike. This way, sales surge going into the holidays and take some steam away from Sonys PS3 Slim and price drop. There are reports that many Best Buys are completely out of stock of Arcade 360s just following this ban wave, lol.

Bravo, Microsoft.

Nice of you to come around only when it benefits you

If piracy is an issue for you and you're in the music industry, then you already have enough money.

As far as the people being surprised by this, I don't know what to say, they banned people with modded xbox's before. I don't understand why they would think they are ok this time.

Having to pay for xbox live to play any game online is what people should be upset about in the first place.

Why do people keep bitching about this. Its $50 bucks a year. That is fucking cheap! Not mention you can buy them on eBay in card form for cheaper than that.

because it shouldn't be forced on me or anyone when they already pay for an internet connection, console, and the actual game.

Oh please. That's an isp forwarding/warning. I got like a dozen of those before they finally realized I dont care.

No one is holding a gun to your head to buy Xbox Live. There are plenty of games you can play on the Xbox without Live. I did not have Live for close to 2 years.

the obvious point is you can't play a game online that you payed for and are hosting.

Then dont. Xbox Live is a pay service because it costs Microsoft money to make, support, and update. So sorry that there isnt a charity organization for you to play games on.

There are a bunch on the PC.

And there's one for the PS3.

yeah I'm not going to kind of my point, if you don't want to hear me bitch don't respond to me

NO, if you don't want to hear me bitch about your bitching, then dont respond to ME!

/kidding

I get your point, yo. Though the quality of XBL is far better than PSN and similar online services, there should be a bare bones option for xbox players just to play online and not have all the extras of XBL.

For me, it is what? $4 a month? It would be worth it if I really cared about console gaming.

xfire pisses all over xbl and psn plays games online the same way that xbl does but for free.

so your practically paying $4 a month to create a party chat and send game invites LOL

QFT, not much more your getting, not to mention PSN keeps getting better and its always gonna be free...

This. This. This. This. It's why I will buy a PlayStation 3 when it's time and never touch a 360. RROD and E74 errors, withstanding.

How did I know this thread would spiral down to bitching about Live as a service. I guess we can see who really got banned lol

Pirates exposed!

WTF does paying for Live have anything to do with piracy? It's like saying those that don't pay for XM radio are music pirates. Your point is moot, sir.

All of which, besides PSN, are for the PC. The PC should always have better services. That said, PSN and Home are awful, but getting better. XBL on the other hand, is getting more...metrosexual, but still leaps above what Sony offers for free.

If I leave a $100 on my front porch and someone takes it I'm not going to be surprised. Music/Games/Movie industries are based on archaic business models of distribution built on trust. I can't even type that last part without laughing. At least companies like Valve are realizing this and utilizing technology like Steam.

I have no sympathy for anyone that got banned this time around. They deserved it and should have know it was coming.

I want to know how many people are actually the fanbase, meaning how many are actually using it not how many each buy from the constant RRODs and bans. I think its probably a bloated 5 million+.

I USED TO PIRATE GAMES AND EAT BABIES AND WORSHIP ALLAH BUT NOW I PAY FOR EVERYTHING 3 TIMES AND HILARY ROSEN TOOK MY PAIN AWAY LOLOL!!!!
