Steam is currently pre-loading Left 4 Dead 2. If you are buying the game off Steam, I recommend you get your pre-load on before the street date so you’ll be ready to roll the minute it is released. You can download the PC demo here off Steam as well and Xbox 360 owners can download the demo off XBL.

To begin the process, right-click on Left 4 Dead 2 in Steam's "My games" tab, select "View pre-load info..." and follow the steps. Once the download is complete, Valve promises that "when the game is officially released, you'll be able to play it immediately."

Already bought it and got it set to pre-load...this is one of the few titles im really looking forward to. Me and a hand full of friends play l4d for a few hours every sunday and this is going to be played through and through the day of release!

Thanks for the heads up, downloading now before the rush.

Just wondering if any of you hip cats saw the quote where Gabe Newell said he compared numbers of members from the Steam Boycott L4D2 group to the number of preorders, and the former boycotters are preordering at a higher rate than non boycotters.

i can't stop laughing and i can't wait for this release. demo was a blast :D

wish valve would release some other games that i actually find interesting.. l4d does nothing for me :(

I am one of them :)

the 4 pack is what made me do it. $35 I think is fair (after playing the demo I decided there was enough extra to confirm this) . Its not a $50 game and sure as hell isnt a $60 game that I would have to pay for DLC (I hope you read this InfinityWard)

l4d is great, l4d2 is great too

just broke lol

and the new super mario bros game is coming out...

Big ol' bucket of "meh" for me. L4D was pretty fun for about 2 weeks, so long as you didn't have anyone on your team who:

1) went AFK for any period of time
2) pulled a bunch of zombies back to your position and then logged off
3) shot your whole fucking team up right before you survive the final battle

I'll stick with TF2 where I keep getting free updates and new levels years after the game has been released.

Oh thanks for reminding me, I need a new headset for my PC...... gonna be lots of yellen at AFK'ers, w00t.

can't wait for it :) didn't care all that much for the original, but the demo for the new one I've been playing non-stop. This game is gonna rule.

I was looking for info on it last night as saw this

lol, what a dick. It made me lol though

Cool, I can't wait to pre-load it and then be able to play it when it's finally un-locked two days late.

I'll wait until it's on sale. It kind of feels like a mix between L4D 1 and Serious Sam. Not necessarily a bad thing. Just different than I was expecting.

whew I set a new record in friendly fire. I wonder if there's an achievement in killing 3 survivors as a survivor.

Friends list and friends only games. There's really no reason to ever having public lobbies or joining a random game if you have at least 10 friends who play. By the magic of networking, you end up getting enough people to fill up an 8 man vs lobby or 4 man campaign lobby in short order.

Setting a lobby to Public is just asking someone to punch you in the balls.

The new setting in daylight ruined it for me, a couple of places in the demo reminded me of CS Source which isn't right for L4D. New Orleans can be really creepy during the night but I guess they thought they should make it different from the first game.

The new guns are really good, the AK, M16, and sniper rifle are much better then the first game's. I really wish they would bring over the new M16 at least. The new zombies are much better, both the common and special.

I think I'll wait for a sale, there's a lot new but but the daylight is really bleh.

Played the demo Online for 2 days. It is not badly done but I don't see what all the fuss is all about. These game's grandness is more marchitecture than anything else. I haven't seen a game get near to living to the expectations the media set since the days of The Witcher.

The whole game doesn't take place in daylight. The five campaigns form a linear storyline, so there is quite a bit of night as well.

I actually thought it looked really good. The sun is low so there are still dark silhouettes in the distance, etc.

Otherwise, love the new weapons, love the uncommon common infected, love the new specials, and the new gore system is the most over-the-top that I've seen since Soldier Of Fortune 2. Its crazy, and I've never seen intestines spill out of an enemy before.

Nothing like hosting the game yourself and using sv_cheats to piss off griefers.....

So Left 4 Dead 2, a Valve game, unlocks on steampowered.com Midnight, November 17, 2009 Eastern Time on the day of release.

But yet Borderlands, a non-Valve game, unlocked on steampowered at Noon, Pacific Time, 15 hours after the Midnight Eastern time of the release date, eventhough the 2K copy protection servers unlocked other copies of the game earlier.

Did Valve's Left 4 Dead 2 publishing team pay extra for steam staff to be on hand to handle the Left 4 Dead 2 launch that Borderlands didn't, or is it just preferential treatment for in-house games on a supposedly neutral distribution system? Should third party software companies expect equal treatment?

Don't get me wrong, it's good that people on the West coast get it 3hrs early, but it would be nicer if the same rules applied uniformly to all the games pre-loaded by steam.

Most games, Valve and 3rd party, unlock when they are supposed to, but glitches do happen. I doubt it was intentional, and I seriously doubt it hurt sales for Borderlands.

Preload is complete here as well. Too bad I will be on a business trip all next week. My old lappy has integrated Intel graphics, so aside from Q3 and other really old titles, no gaming on the road for me.

.

Actually it was intentional... most of us didn't notice that the countdown clock on steam counted down to noon Pacific Time when we bought Borderlands through them... sort of makes the pre-load a bit useless since I could have bought a copy from a local retailer and installed without even having to go to a midnight launch before the steam copy got decrypted.

There's no official word from steam as to why the time was at noon, but the rumours are that steam didn't want to unlock the game during off hours when no staff was available for tech support. Obviously, if that rumor was true, it doesn't apply to Left 4 Dead 2. There was also no response from 2KGames on their forums either, as to the official reason for the discrepancy. Who knows, it may have been 2K... they also pulled a fast one on the PC users by releasing the game about 1 week later than the console versions because "it needed more testing" and not mentioning that in any of their ads, which only displayed the console release date.

It really was no big deal... waiting half a day, but it's just disappointing when the policy is not evenly applied.

Pre-loading here. Hope to see some of you online when the game is ready to play. :)

I don't know why, but imo l4d2 doesn't just seem to be interesting enough. The prequel was somewhat fun, but lasted only a really short time, and I don't really care for killing zombies continuously ..

It really, really sucks to have no cash whatsoever...

It would really suck now. Since 2007, every single holiday season has been swimming in AAA games, seemingly more than the prior year. Its crazy, I have no idea how the fuck I'm supposed to play all of this stuff. Hell, I still have games from months ago in the shrinkwrap. :(

I really wish I had that problem. Broke college student ftl.

Think of it this way. Once you have shitloads of cash to spend on all the games and toys you want, you'll be way too busy with a career to make enough time for all of them. :D

I am not. You guys can keep it. Left 4 Dead 1 was somewhat fun even though it's been one of the worst communities ever. L4D ¼ is a no thanks.

To me as fun as L4D2 is to play with friends I'm just not willing to pay for it until it goes on special one weekend, it just isn't that different to L4D.
