Uh oh, iPhone users have fired up their pitchfork and torch apps and formed a virtual mob after reading this article claiming the iPhone is the “Worst phone in the world!”

That's right, we said it -- and we're not taking it back. The iPhone may be the greatest handheld surfing device ever to rock the mobile Web, and a fabulous media player to boot. It may be the highest-rated mobile phone on CNET UK, rocking the pockets of half of our crack editorial team. It's certainly the touchscreen face that launched a thousand apps. But as an actual call-making phone, it's rubbish, and we aim to prove it.

The iPhone is a piece of shit.
Gee, next thing you're going to tell me is that water is wet.

About time someone finally got the stick out of their ass and said something openly.

Heh, isn't it true though? I refused to get it but my two bosses both got it and they bitch about the iPhone every day! Disconnected/dropped calls, software updates that cause problems, the list goes on and on...

I ***ing hate mine, stupid thing drops calls like its going out of style, battery doesnt even last a day (1st gen) and 3 years later,ATT/Apple says we support pic messaging, but not for the ones who paid 400$, no, you have to use the old shit, only the guys who paid less get these "standard" space age features (read 2002). Not to mention that the screen now has 7 stuck pixels, a burn mark, and 2 nasty grey bars that get bigger every day, and it all started about 2 weeks ago, conveniently 5 ***ING DAYS after my expensive 2 year add on warranty expired. Add that to the constant lock ups, the problems with syncing blutooth, and the headphones killing the speaker for days at a time? WTF is up with that?

I really want to put some 7.62 tracers thru this piece of shit.

To be honest as a web surfing device and media player its not the cats meow anymore. Still slick but there are devices that best it some areas. I'd rather surf on my TP2 with a screen that doesn't kill my eyes.

From work. I wouldn't own one if I had to pay for it.

That said, my wife loves hers, but mostly for the "unified device" aspect, not the phone.

It's a great device. A kickass media player (iTunes is another story), great for mobile web. It's PAINFULLY obvious that Apple is not a phone company, tho.

I'll put my Touch Pro 2 against the iPhone any day of the week. I love my TP2 aka Tilt2. Great phone, already great development for it and hopefully I'll be using Android on it. Can iPhone say that? Oh yeah, you just got MMS and copy/paste. Oh, can you burn a new radio rom on the iPhone to improve GPS and calling quality? I can and have. Already burned a ton of roms on this thing and found one I like. Way to go Shadowline. Oh yeah, Cydia, the winner is you. Oh look Apple pushed another OS update, there goes my jailbreak. Not.

I wouldn't know. I use the iPhone for data, not voice. I'm hearing impaired. So for all intent and purpose, the author of the article is right about the iPhone being awesome with its web and surfing capabilities. :D

Try and keep up. iPhone has copy/paste and MMS since OS 3.0

And you don't HAVE to accept the iPhone updates.

Thats awesome. I bought my phone to make phone calls, not to find directions to the nearest sushi bar. I use my computer for that.

I wouldn't use an iPhone if someone paid ME. Fuck Apple: overpriced, overhyped crap.

I don't understand the iPhone hate. I love mine. Lots of great apps and games. I have ZERO problems with calls, it works fine as a phone. I really can't understand all the hate.

I don't either. iPhone cost the same as the Blackberry but you don't see anyone hating on them. It's just a web device ffs. It's not going to eat your babies.

I have an iPhone 2G through T-Mobile, NOT AT&T. It's nice actually, and it's affordable for the most part. I only pay $79 for the service. Although I can't go updating my phone whenever I want, or else I'd have to re-unlock it, it's a handy phone to be able to serf the web, have iTunes, and have a nice, bright monitor available to me. There are things I *don't* like about it though. Here's what I think could make the iPhone much, much better:

1) It needs to be available with more services than just AT&T. The subscription prices through AT&T are ridiculous, and competition would go a long ways to providing better service.

2) Using iTunes with your iPhone can be, although not always, but I do stress the phrase "can be" way more of a pain in the ass than is necessary. If I reformat my computer and reload iTunes, it wants me to wipe everything I have off of my phone. Why can't it work like Steam, you know?

3) There are minor bugs, like the "new-text-message" sound just suddenly stopping working.

But otherwise I really like it. It was fun going to Best Buy yesterday, attaching my iPhone to a $700 stereo system they had for sale, and blasting Rage Against the Machine on it. :D

I have no problems with my iphone and I quite enjoy it. Perhaps before people jump on the "I hate the iphone" bandwagon they should use their grey matter.

My buddy got a 3G the day it came out, and I used it for a day to see what it was like. My hate comes from that experience.

same here. AT&T's coverage sucks a lot, but the phone itself (while having some annoying issues) has been fine. It probably depends a lot on location I assume.

As a matter of fact, I've never been an apple supporter. Most of their products and fans really get under my skin at times... and I find the apple fans getting angry over it VERY entertaining, but I've got to give it to apple... this has actually been the finest phone I've ever owned. Albeit, not because of apple... but because of the jailbreaking community opening the device up and adding functionality. It's like having a computer in my pocket at all times :) (that also makes phone calls)

I don't hate the iPhone. I hate the snobby people that jumped on the "my phone is cooler than yours" bandwagon.

yep the iphone is the greatest phone look at all the features it has....

1. low quality camera
2. lots of useless apps
3. drops calls
4. exploding batteries! FTW
5. slow on the internet compared to other phones
6. no hard reset switch
7. crashes often
8. no interchangable batterys
9. uses ITunes.....

mabye, just mabye iphone buyers should engage there grey matter instead huh.

I've had an iPhone 3GS since August and the only thing I hate is that I have to pay Apple $100/year to develop software myself for my own device. My next phone will be Android based.

I'm on Rogers in Canada and their network can handle the iPhone. We have 1/10th the USA's population though.

Nothing wrong with an iPhone, its a slick device and awesome 3rd party device unparalleled right now without question. My problem with it is that many people think that its the best phone at everything and that's not the case. As I said earlier, its NOT the best web surfing device OR media player out right now. My redheaded stepchild WinMo TP2 is better overall I think, simply because of the awesome screen and speaker.

If you want phones that get a lot of hate, try Windows phones. They get slammed COMPLETELY in the press and yet this generation of phones, like the TP2 are getting amazing customer satisfaction scores in reviews, especially for a Windows phone.

My premise is that most smart phones have a lot going for them these days. Andoids, iPhones, BBs and EVEN Windows phones can do amazing things and none of them completely waste the competition at this point. It's really about personal taste. iPhones for apps, BBs for personal communications, Windows phones for corporate communications and apps, and honestly the Android is the one that's going to have the hardest time identifying its niche as the others are filled though devices like the Droid should help.

But over the next 12 to 24 months the game changes radically. Take all our devices and eject them into space. We'll basically be starting over with the arrival of 4G and Microsoft's first new mobile OS in the smart phone era. These phones are going to be game changing if what I'm hearing is correct.

It's amazing how much iPhone hate there is here in the forum! I own a 3gs and my fincee has my old 2g -- we both love 'em. Personally the ability to have a Cisco VPN client to connect into my work network, the apps to let me remotely manage both Windows and Unix machines by using RDP/SSH/VNC is great! I can't tell you how many times I've had to remote into a server here at work and reset a service while I was away from a computer. I can be eating lunch and manage my network from my phone. I don't have problems with call quality, as I normally make phone calls in my car w/ bluetooth, and when I do actually have to use the device as a phone, it works great.

It's your imagination as well as everyone else's. Nobody cares what phone you're using. Not even iPhone users.

newbie question, whats a good place to get jailbreak phones or do you have to do it yourself?

I distance myself from any conversations with Apple fanboys (there are quite a few here at work), but today, I hear them all cackling from 8 cube rows over about this story.

1. first gen, yeah... I can agree with ya. But have you seen the quality from the 3GS? look here if you haven't. The video quality is pretty damn impressive too

2. Agreed... however, a shit load of useful ones too :)

3. I wouldn't necessarily blame the phone as much as I'd blame the provider. I'm sure one on verizon would be top notch

4. agreed

5. *shrug* speeds are fine on my 3GS

6. hold the home & power buttons ;) (or use sbsettings and have an onscreen toggle to reboot it)

7. Never had a crash (except with a buggy version of something off of cydia)

8. Agreed 100%

9. Yet again, agree 100%... itunes is garbage

I can't tell you how many times I've had to remote into a server here at work and reset a service while I was away from a computer.

I think someone needs to improve the network they run before worrying about what kind of phone they use. :D I kid I kid!

So wait...your friend got an iPhone and let you use it for a day? So - what, did you call all your friends/colleagues and give them your friends number to contact you with, just for that day?

"Hey buddy, here's my new iPhone 3G, go ahead and give all your friends my number so you can test my phone out all day long."

Riiiight.

:p

Then why didn't you just get this:

Yes you should. Everything you said is based on hearsay rather than experience. Use your own gray matters, not the mobs.

1. 2.5mp is hardly low quality for a phone.
2. So use the useful ones. Have some fun once in awhile. iPhone still has the most useful apps than any other phones. Nobody's forcing you to download Tipster or iFart or iZippo.
3. I wouldn't know. I'm hearing impaired, so I'll skip this one.
4. Nokia holds the record for the highest recall rates on batteries.
5. You obviously don't know what you're talking about. Webpages load just fine on mine. Are you one of those who watch stopwatches when comparing IE to Firefox to Chrome to Opera?
6. Again you obviously don't know what you're talking about. Hold down top button and menu button and your iPhone will reset.
7. Stop using low rated useless apps, eh?
8. I'll agree with you here. Batteries should be changeable.
9. www.mediamonkey.com - You don't have to use iTunes.

Yeah, your gray matters are really working overtime there, ain't it?

Pretty much sums up my experiance. I bought into the hype on some other phones and paid shit tons more for them only to find utter POS. The iPhone works much better than any other POS I've owned that has been called a phone. To say it's the worst cell phone - phone part only - is a joke. There are much much worse out there. Some people just seem to hate apple so much they can't get over the fact that this is a good product.
