Mac Game Deletes Files Permanently

There is a new game out there, designed specifically for the Mac, that intentionally deletes users files. Every time you shoot an alien, the game randomly deletes one of your files. While the “PC” side of me screams “game of the year,” the other side of me doesn’t think deleting users files (Mac owner or not) is cool at all.

"Lose/Lose is a video-game with real life consequences. Each alien in the game is created based on a random file on the player's computer. If the player kills the alien, the file it is based on is deleted. If the player's ship is destroyed, the application itself is deleted"

Aah, performance art. There's a fine line between thought-provoking and dumb, and this ... might be on the wrong side.

It's an... interesting idea, but somehow I don't see this selling many copies! :p

I remember there was an old Doom mod that did this exact same thing too where the baddies were files on your system. Obviously you don't run this on your usual desktop unless your system is hosed in the first place. I know I'd like to shove a BFG up NV4_disp.dll's nostril every now and then tho :D

Run it on a virtual machine and resotre it at the end of your game.

Who needs a Mac virus when you have this? It's even more insidious than a virus. You deliberately load it to use it and then unknowingly delete files yourself. I like it. Should make for more interesting commercials. I'd laugh my ass off if Microsoft exploited this.

Be fun to put it on a compy that has no important data on it.

See how long you can play the game before the system crashes, or wont load the OS.

I think the anti-violence crowd loves this one.... I can hear them now, " That's what you get for all your bloodlust".

Unknowingly? Did you even look at the article? Here's a picture they provide of the screen you see when you start the game.

Wait, if you win, you lose; if you lose, you win. I don't get it. Wouldn't you prefer to lose to the game so the game gets deleted instead of you winning and have the game delete your files?

lol
If you know someone obnoxious with a Mac, lend them this game :D

It's not to make money, it was a thesis project.

Personally I think it's awesome, although I swear I heard something like this once before. Personally, I think it would be even cooler if it left a file behind saying what was deleted.

The game gets deleted when you lose your spaceship. So, they only need to get ONE person really interested, and they will sell many many copies (to him) :D

Regardless, I think it does hold some credence of the "Only PCs get viruses" argument in the I'm a Mac commercials. I mean really, on a PC that gets labeled as a virus regardless of how obvious it is about deleting your files.

"Hi I'm a Mac... you PCs get viruses that destroy your files without your knowledge"

"Well I'm a PC, and you Mac users are so fucking retarded you will willingly use a program that deletes your files randomly at least I was tempted with the lure of free porn!!"

There has been a virus going around that has been going around undetected. If you go into your windows folder and see system32, delete now before it effects your whole computer.

I'd laugh my ass off if Microsoft exploited this.
Yeah, they're going to exploit the opportunity of the existence of some third-party multi-platform game that deletes users files. How they could possibly attempt to exploit said opportunity I have no idea.

I'm betting development for this game was funded by the RIAA.
I like the way you think.
