Dragon Age preloading available on steam now

Ugh just bought Borderlands. I'll be keeping an eye on this game though, looks promising.

I'm glad they were able to line up a preload. Right now I'm getting blisteringly fast download speeds. :)

How do I start downloading this? I bought the digital deluxe version but it doesn't say anything about downloading it.

I don't mean to gloat... actually, I do mean to... LOL!... but my copy of Dragon Age (collector's edition) has passed through the UPS network, and is in my city, and will be delivered to me tomorrow!

That is what I am talking about, my friends.

Yup, good download speeds for now. Looks like it's about 10GB - 10.5GB based on percent completion and the amount downloaded so far.

I hope you're knocking on wood everytime you post this. ;)

Yeah something's going to go wrong, I know it.

In my mind I've already written my 'Dragon Age Has Just Arrived In The Mail' thread, which I hope to post tomorrow - tomorrow being Monday. That would be the Monday before the Tuesday on which mostly everyone else will be getting their copy.

But stuff like this usually backfires on me (I'm the guy who'll open up a box and there will be a missing DVD or something). Ah well, that's all part of the experience. I've learned to enjoy getting ripped off, or being disappointed. Nevertheless, I hope to see you again tomorrow.

Tomorrow being Monday.

Doesn't unlock until friday for the UK, thats like 5 days still, when does it unlock on steam for the US and other territories?

tuesday for the us

God fucking damnit I hate the UK

Stupid politics, I'm pre-loading on steam now and will have the capability to play it by tuesday like the US but have to wait for no good reason while other people get to play it.

I can't explain how angry that makes me, and developers wonder why people pirate games :rolleyes

Oh and the preload speed on steam is crap, 750k/s...SIGH

Mine is 350KB/s and that's way better then i get compared to any other download.

It sped up a bit, reached about 2MB/sec, preload is done now, just got to wait until friday :/

Yeah we all know mail strikes are the main cause of PC piracy

The folder ended up being 15.3GB, not sure how Steam calculates its percentages.

Yeah, me too.

Wait a minute, what am I saying, I will be getting it tomorrow!

I'm glad you get so much pleasure out of being able to play a video game less than 24 hours early. I wish my life was so simple.

It was the same with Borderlands. UK players had to wait 5 days extra. Steam region releases seem staggered, perhaps to cope with bandwidth demands

My CE copy is scheduled to arrive Nov 4. I already have some characters created. My first play through will be a with a dwarven male noble fighter.

Best of luck. I didn't bring it up first, so if this doen't work out, don't blame me. :) My luck tends to run like yours. Can't remember the reason why but I received DOOM 3 before most folks. I was so proud and gloating like a SOB. I opened the case and SNAP broke the disc pulling it out of the case! Had to wait until I received a new one in the mail. Bah...Should have guessed right there how the game would turn out.....

It will be to protect the sales of the mail order and retail stores, and I guess the sales chart position.

On a different note: Steam (and other downloads) are a massive disappointment anyway - so much feels like an absolute rip off since the physical copies can be bought from internet retailers for much better prices anyway. Dragon Age is no exception, £30 on Steam, very laughably £35 from GAME's download service  and yet only £25 from most of the etailers

It unlocks tomorrow?

*cough*

*cough*

I think I feel a 24-hour flu coming on....

Just what I need more junk laying around my house to lose after a few months.

Superfly3176 I'm not knocking the concept of digital distribution, it should be the future, but instead of the massive win for consumers & developers alike, it's been fucked up by greedy, parasitic publishers & retailers colluding to ensure that they take an even bigger slice of the pie

I think it unlocks early afternoon, so you might feel well until Wednesday. You can get a full day of play..er rest....

If you preload will it unlock at midnight tonight as if you were doing a midnight launch or will it be like Borderlands and release in the middle of the day.

EDIT: Just checked and it releases in 1 day and 3 hours. I dont understand why they dont do midnight releases. I love it when you can stay up all night playing a great game.

Middle of the day, it looks like.

From their site:

Code:
Available: November 3rd, 2009

This game will unlock in approximately 1 day and 3 hours

Hard to not take a vacation day to stay home and play, but don't want to set the example for my kid. Early bedtimes this week!

There was no way my connection would have downloaded the whole thing in time, so I just ordered a boxed copy with release day delivery from Amazon.

$46.00 plus you get a $10 video game gift card for future Amazon purchases. Pretty solid deal, I thought. Unfortunately, they didn't have any boxed collectors editions.

I went with the same from Amazon.

Unfortunately my order still shows 'Shipping Soon', so I'm interested to see if they can actually make the delivery date as-promised.

Mine says the same, and it won't let me change it to send it to work instead of home, unfortunately. That probably means it is ready to go out.

Most steam games do not unlock until noon pst of that day. I believe i read something somewhere that this is due to publisher pressure to ensure than online does not get it before stores have the ability to sell it (ie at midnight when they are closed)

I'll make sure all my responsibilities are done early because one this thing unlocks that's the rest of my day pretty much. ;)

The explanation I've heard is a midnight release would mean Steam employees would need to be on hand thru the night to make sure nothing goes wrong, but if the publishers are willing to pay for it, Steam will do it. My "source" is far from official, so I could be wrong, but I think both explanations at least make sense.

Preload done. I'm hoping to finish playthru #2 of Torchlight tonight before DA takes all my gaming time away :D
