Windows 7 Pro - Full $29.99 for students Ends 1/05/10

I really don't understand the process, what's with people not wanting to explain the full process of getting a copy? You start off by canceling an order? So I need to create and order through them over the phone, then call back and cancel it? My Sister is a student, and she has a Mac, she also uses my parents PC for work. Are we eligible to upgrade my Parents PC to Win 7? Can my Mother call the number to order a copy or do I need to have my sister do it? And if so what are the steps to getting a copy?

No,

Call 1-877-696-7786

Then it says for any windows 7 questions, hit 7.....so hit 7.

It will then transfer you to a rep. Just say hey, i'm a student and I would like to purchase a copy of windows 7. When telling them what you want make sure you ask for the FULL VERSION DVD and of the professional version as well. I asked for 64bit to make sure as well and repeated it again before we got off the line because you are talking to someone in India is what it sounds like to me. You must speak very clearly to them. They still ended up spelling my name wrong, my bank called me right after to make sure the transaction was legit lol. Got my full copy for $37.37 shipped! Good luck.

Is a student email ID required?

Just got this deal as well...First time i tried I spoke to Joan and she said that they don't offer this via the phone anymore ( just through their website ) so I waited 5 mins and tried again and spoke to Billy and it worked- Win 7 Pro Full Retail for $38!

Well, since you seem to know English, is BitLocker really that important to you? Not once have I used that feature. My guess is, if a corporation requires that feature, they'd provide you with 3rd party software or just give you Ultimate to use.

Actually, my English is quite good, thank you. And I'm also fluent in 3 other languages which is why I prefer the Ultimate version, since it allows me to switch between English and over 30 other languages. Thank you very much. ;)

Never said your English wasn't good.

Since this is the internet, I'm fluent in 5 languages. Thank you very much ;)

If you will actually use another language to run your OS, I apologize for the droll remark, but I highly doubt it.

alright, i ordered this, but i thought i could simply plug in the activation key for win7pro 64 to windows 7 rc. does this mean i have to reformat?

Just replying to your smartass remark with one of my own; don't take it personally.

And you can doubt whatever you want, but I'm simply stating a fact so you should think prior to assuming the next time.

Hahaha, I wasn't trying to be a smartass, just to demonstrate that what is in Ultimate, most consumers will never use.

But yes, I did think and I still doubt it, from your original short comment it just seems you'd rather have the best even though the features wouldn't be used, and subsequent defensive posts seem like trying to get out of a corner when someone calls you on it.

But hey, I'll drop it, I'm just a guy on the internet, and I'm still going to think what I've posted. So are you. Plus, it's the internet, I'd never take it personally; I could be stating the facts too, but I doubt anyone will know.

Well played. I don't care about BitLocker at all, so if someone simply needs an English W7, then yes...the Professional would make more sense. However, I simply alluded to the fact that you should not overlook Ultimate's main advantage which is its multilingual support.

I called the MS Store (877-696-7786) twice this morning and was directed to the website site both times. Will try again and update if I get through.

Thanks for the deal OP. One minute was well worth the wait :)

Tai - how did you get through? I've called 4 times now and have been directed to the website each time. Maybe I just have bad luck ;)

Heres how I got through to get my Full copy:

1. Called the number provided, and hit 7 to talk to them about Windows 7.
2. I hit the number to "ask a question about Windows 7"
3. I explained to the guy that I have a MacBook (I dont but just play along) and that I need to get a copy of Windows 7 for school. I asked if I need the Full version or the Upgrade version.
4. He did some searching... and came back telling me I need the full version.
5. I said something to the effect of "I saw on the website that the student discount only applies to the "upgrade" version and not the full version, how much is the full version with the student discount?
6. He put me on hold again and came back and said it will be the same price of $29.99
7. I asked to be transfered to the sales department, and he informed me that he could do the sale right there. So I went ahead and bought it.

Hopefully it comes through and is actually the full version. I confirmed that its the full version a few times, but you never know if the person doesnt know whats going on.

I don't know why u mofo's would hit 7, i mean it directs you to a customer service rep if u just stay on the line...

I called back just now and got a rep who took my order over the phone. Just got the confirmation email from the MS store. Will update when the DVD arrives.

I just called three times and each time they said there's no discount for the full retail version, and I have to order through the website. Can I no longer obtain a full retail version?

I did exactly this on the first try @ 877-696-7786, except I didn't "admit" to "owning" a mac. ;) $37.43 for Pro Full x64.

It was a 14 minute and 25 second phone call, most of which was getting the spelling of my Name, Street name, and Town name to be correct. All looks good.

I ALSO purchased a digital river one "upgrade" (pro) last week, downloaded it but haven't tried installing it yet. It's for my laptop which came with vista+xp downgrade, so I should be fine regardless. I used the same email for both, so that also works. I'm going to try using the ISO media creator with the downloaded stuff and see if I can get the "upgrade" to do a clean install.

-Kurt

EDIT: As for confirmation, he even said that the version i was getting was usually $299, but with the student discount, it's $29.99. So that's a LITTLE bit more "proof" that we'll actually be getting full versions.

It really depends on which rep you talk to. I didn't get a rep to take my order over the phone until the 5th try. I went through option 1 (instead of 7), although it probably doesn't matter a whole lot as I was directed to the website through both.

Exactly. They just tell me to order through the website.

zero probs for me and my full retail Windows 7 Pro dvd is on the way according to the tracking number. with tax and shipping it was just over 40 bucks and yeah I paid $5 more for 2nd day shipping. ordering was painless and I didnt even hold for more than 2 minutes before placing my order.

Do they allow you to get the full retail version online (download) or must you have it shipped?

No wait time at all just a few minutes ago but was sent to the website.

got ordered the third time thru

Im pretty sure because when I said that I wanted the the full version she asked if I wanted the dvd or download. to me it was worth the extra few bucks for shipping so I could have the physical dvd though.

I just called MS and they told me the offer is good for both the upgrade and full versions. Told me to call Digital River (1-877-244-8653) and I did. The rep there actually told me that I should not be fooled by the title 'upgrade' on their website and that it's actually a full version that allows a clean install. I'm a bit skeptical about this...is he the one fooling me?

I confirm that you can indeed get the full version, but you have to get the 'right' representative to place the order. I just placed my order and you can even download the full version so that saved me about $8 as well! You can confirm that it is the full version (read: not the upgrade) by looking at the original crossed-out price of $299.99. The upgrade version retails for $199.99.

you dont think its worth 8 bucks more to have the physical dvd?

Just to confirm, these are full versions that you get if you call microsoft and specify full version. Mine came in a sealed retail box.

I just received my copy of Windows 7 Pro. It came in a sealed retail box, and has both the 32bit and 64 bit discs in the box.
