L4D2 Demo Impression

That video was hilarious.

The machete rules. I was lucky and beat a tank to death with it. Kept moving around a pole while it was beating teamates down. But I got his ass. They even thought it was funny.

I am buying this game. Fuck, for the small amount of investment for the long term of enjoyment it is a no brainer. While reading the messages about incinderary ammo and stuff it just makes me want it more. We have that now in L4D with the KRX Survivor upgrades Plug in. In a couple of days Left 4 Dead madness and not long after guys will be making new maps. Anyone hear if we can use the L4D user maps with this? I have yet to keep the Jockey from jumping on me tho. Timing is everything I guess.

Valve have mentioned that custom content will work with both games. L4D maps will probably need to be recompiled for L4D2 with it's SDK, but that's about it.

Completed the demo 4 times now, pretty much more of the same but with more polish. Great stuff indeed

You answered your own question, you know

Here's a better comparison for people's eyes that can't tell that the guns have gotten bigger...

It bothers me personally just for the visual aspect, but objectively speaking...it can actually block your view on the right from seeing zombies coming from that direction sometimes too. L4D doesn't have that problem.

And LeviathanZEROs point was that this sort of thing wasn't acceptable.

Uh, why?

The matchmaking is fine 90% of the time. If it failed to get a good server, return to lobby and find one yourself. 20 seconds of my time for a guaranteed good game. Whatever team has less players is automatically at a huge disadvantage, you need to have 4 (+4) people ready from the get go.

You can have it use Steam group servers as well, so basically I always had a good server available, every time.

The only thing wrong with it is how the weapons are held. It should have been the same as L4D. I guess valve just wants you to see more of their shiny models.

They were trying to give a better feel for the weapon actually being held correctly at your shoulder I assume

If you compare the screenshot of the m16 being held in L4D and the one in L4D2, L4D's looks like it 's fired from the hip while L4D2's is fired from the shoulder which makes the gun looks bigger. But I can't apply that with the Desert Eagle, side-arms aren't shot from the shoulder... they're extended from your arms. So that "big" gun effect should not even be there, where it looks like the Deagle is being shot from the shoulder. It should be lower and out farther like the CSS screenie.

The rifle in the original L4D looks way better IMO, the second looks cartoony. But, it looks like the arm is just a little bit higher and the gun is slightly bulkier. I prefer the first.

90% for you doesn't mean 90% for everyone.

It's more like 30% for me, I need to try several games each time before I'll find one that's acceptable, which is usualy a ping of about 50 or so, compared to other games where I can join servers with pings of around 10-20ms by simply ordering the servers and picking low latency ones.

In fact it's probably way less than 30% because thats how many attempts it takes to find a server that is good for ME but often the people it puts me with end up with bad pings, the chances of finding a good server AND all players pining well is much smaller again, maybe something like 10%

Thats just my experience, and no I dont have a crap connection, I have 50mbit fiber.

Is your steam location set correctly? It will search off that

If you want to use a server browser so much, just open it from the console and go to town. You can just find a server you like and add it to favorites, use the IP and you can force your lobby to connect to it any time it isn't full.

I don't get what's so hard. The tools are there for you to use.

The guns in L4D2 ARE way too big, they look silly and block the screen too much.

Also, the models seem lower quality than usual. They look way worse than L4D1 or even CS:Source. They remind me of user made weapon models.

honestly I think the demo is great as far as gameplay and graphics go. The framerate is smooth even though so many things can be on the screen at once. The zombie body damage is great. There's nothing like shooting a zombie and seeing his arms and legs fall off and a huge hole in their chest. blowing zombies in half is fun as well.

my only complaint, really, is the weapon models.

The matchmaking works well most of the time and noting how bad the implementation is in Borderlands makes me realise this.

I haven't gotten a laggy server recently, but the day the demo was released I had pings in the 300+ range. It'll probably be laggy like that for a while after release, which sucks.

Wife and I have been playing the last few days and it is certainly better than L4D1. We've seen some mondo combos of specials, specially on advanced or expert. I think the charger could use a HP boost. Amazing to see the charger come in during major hoard and just grab someone and run away with them. Seems like they upped the recovery time for hunter that has been hit off a player. I got jumped multiple times in a row from the same hunter because he would recover from a hit faster than my player could get up.

All the specials compliment each other very well. I'm still not sold on the melee weapons but I'm glad they made the choice to make it that or a pistol and not both. New weapons are nice, they give you a choice and choices can either make or break what happens. I can't wait for the rest the game. Also can't wait to try the new specials in VS.

Like the first one better thus far. The characters feel too "Cartoonish", specially the boomer's and Smoker. The only likable survivor in this set seems to be Ellis. Can we use the old survivors with the new maps? Cause really, I don't like this set of survivors.

This all may have been said before. :) just my 2 cents of course.

Graphics seem to be alittle better.maybe its the outdoor setting.
The new infected seem to add more of a sense of urgency. instead of just 3-4, there are now 6-7

The addition of more weapons. including melee weapons.(even though melee's are near worthless if your using dualies)

map Layout's : now allow more than one way to make it to the safehouse

Character's : Coach and that other guy(dont know his name, the one not in the suit) seem cool. the other's didnt seem to fit.(almost like that zombie movie with ving rhames)

this all might be because i havent played L4D1

i will agree, the new survivors sucks, they don't seem nearly as personable as the original cast.

the boomer seems the same but the smoker is a lot more cartoony. I like that there are different looking boomers now. Didn't notice if there were different skins for the others.

Nope, only the Boomer has a male/female version as far as I know.

As for the new survivors, I don't think there will be anyone who prefers them over the old crew. Maybe their personalities will get fleshed out properly in the full game.

because there are 8 now instead of just 4...

Being a New Orleans resident I did like the feeling of wandering through the French Quarter but I can assume for most people that the situation was not as enjoyable as it was for me. I thought that the game felt somehow off. There wasnt that much that was new and it felt more of the same. I am annoyed that Valve did not make this a major DLC pack for the original L4D or some kind of expansion. While being able to kill zombies with a guitar is pretty freaking amazing I dont think thats worth the price tag.

Edit: Zoey was sooo much better than Rochelle. And the gun models were too damn big.
