I've ordered my XFX 5850 on Amazon for $259.99 with no tax or shipping. (Amazon indicates it will ship out in 2-5 weeks).

It's pretty sad when you pay msrp and it's a hot deal. I guess I'll be twiddling my thumbs for another month or so.

I did the same thing on the 14th; no update from Amazon about a ship date yet. Another forum member mentioned ordering on the 3rd and getting his card a few days ago.

Dam I just ordered on Monday. I really hope I don't have to wait a month. But the price at Amazon cannot be beat!

You guys aren't missing much. ATI is ignoring glaring driver issues and issuing cookie cutter responses like "update your mouse driver"

I'm getting bent out of shape with my 5850.

I had my 5850 for a couple of weeks now and must say, it's well worth the wait. Stay strong, and keep the faith.

What glaring driver issues?

*ahem* it's spelt fanboi, thank you.

geesh, at least learn to spell our names correctly :p

The one that it doesn't come from Nvidia. Some fanboys just never rest, if you can't beat them on hardware start spreading the FUD.

No driver issues here...;)

I couldn't do that man. Glaring driver issues, Lacking performance, Ungodly loud. Plus it has DX11 that no one will ever use. Forget it sips power will fit in anything and has sick HTPC features. Plus I got the XFX model so you'd only get a lifetime warranty. I'll spare you that bag of suck.

Full screen videos cause one of 2 screens to flicker like mad, the mouse cursor blows up to 10x its normal size. These are all well documented on the AMD forums.

I've never owned an NVIDIA card, I loved my 4850 before I got the 5850. Don't call me a fanboi, moron.

They still need to acknowledge the issues and correct them. Newest tech seems like a downgrade in this instance.

Maybe.... it's an end user issue?

I haven't had any issues at all with mine, apart from not being able to get a second, as OOS seems to be the phrase of the day.

It runs all of my games beautifully, both monitors run great in 2d and 3d applications. No monster mouse, nothing.

Could always be an ID-10T error. With most users, it tends to be the case.

Downgrade? I got a nice HD4000 series card I can swap with your 5850 for an 'upgrade'.

Otherwise, it normally is just your machine giving flak.

Start a thread about, it, and post full details.

yeah, I'm sure all the guys on the ATI forums are just morons. All drivers up to date, all windows updates installed. Why don't you tell us what we're doing wrong? Just because you're one of the lucky ones who isn't experiencing issues doesn't mean they're not affecting other hardware configurations. No need to be a jerk. We've expressed our concerns in multiple threads and tickets to ATI support. They're being unresponsive.

Get locked in while you can! You can always cancel if you find something else. I was hoping I'm first in line for the next shipment, but if 16th hasn't gone through yet, I might have to wait another week.

I ordered mine from Amazon on the 27th, I had your same idea, get in line and cancel if I need to. Haven't heard anything from Amazon so far, but Newegg is giving an ETA of 11/02/09 so hopefully that will be close to the same for Amazon. Or maybe Newegg will pricematch and we can all buy ours from Newegg and cancel our Amazon orders.

But man, Amazon has free shipping and no tax. I don't think newegg could match that! I've never had a problem ordering anything from Amazon, and I think they're just as reputable as newegg.

i like amazon because i live in CA.....

though they dont nearly have their stock replenished as rapidly as the egg......

i get things from both newegg and amazon... excellent places...

I just hope that Amazon doesn't jack up their prices later when they actually do get them in stock. Man, I guess I"m gonna miss a few weeks of playing Dragon Age becuase my current 7600GS is the suxxors.

Not for me, I'm paying about $16 in tax. I guess it's time to sit back and wait.

Sorry to hear that, what state do you live in? I too, cannot bear to bring myself to be priced gouge and pay over MSRP, and then pay shipping, and tax. I'm chinese and therefore must find a deal or I no buy.

TBH though, I would've pulled the trigger on the Asus 5850 on newegg the other day when it was selling for MSRP, plus tax and shipping, unfortunately, by the time I was ready to check out, it was OOS.

The way things are going, you have a better chance getting it sooner with Amazon, than finding an in-stock deal.

You know, you're exactly right. Best case scenario I think is I get the card in about another week, I'd be a little alarmed if I didn't get it after two more weeks. At least I'm getting the price I guess.

well good luck mate! I bought my 2x5870s at launch and im sure the wait for you will be worth it!

Hopefully you'll get it soon... I'm a big fan of the 5850. I haven't had any issues that would make me not recommend it.

And re: [L]imey, I have seen some brief screen flickering on the second display (LCD TV) when playing DVDs using WMC. It looks like screen tearing on the lowest 1/3 of the display. But it only lasts 5 seconds or so and stops. I expect it will be fixed in a driver or two... that is the drawback of getting new tech early.

I'm hopeful too Harlan, just slightly disheartened because the responses from AMD support have all been deflections. One guy on the ATI forums was told to RMA his card because they couldn't reproduce the problem, even though at least 10 others posted they had the same issue. I'm not trying to spread FUD, I'm just calling it like I see it. Hopefully they recognize the issue and set about fixing it for the 9.11 officials.

Ever considered actually going to a physical store? I've been to Fry's twice this month and I've spotted both 5870s and 5850s each time. I also spotted some at Central Computer in my area.

Well today Amazon has updated it's expected time line on the XFX 5850 twice. Once to "Usually ships in 2-5 weeks." Now it's at "Usually ships in 1-3 months." Honestly? That is a serious supply issue I don't care how high demand is.

edit: I guess this is a bit of an improvement since it used to be "Not in stock; order now and we'll deliver when available." But if that's the improvement, then I'm somewhat less than stoked.

I ordered from Amazon on the 20th. If an XFX comes in at another e-tailer prior to that, at not more than MSRP, I'll buy it from them and cancel the Amazon. If not I'll bide my time. I think the updated estimated wait time is probably reflective of the depth of the backorder queue they must have amassed . . . and there will probably be a fair amount of cancellations once product starts to fill the channels again.

Yeah wow... I just placed an order this morning to lockin the $266 price as the price increase rumors are bothering me. I'm running one card now and at $260 it's worth every penny. But hearing that AMD itself has raised MSRP for these things by $20 and seeing the gouging over at ZZF for $320, I'm locking myself in for a second card. The reason is becuase I don't want to get a card with significantly different spec. to crossfire with (ie. using slower memory chips to meet demand) The current boards and memory chips are more than able to handle stock speeds, and overclock well. The second round of cards may be different... No one knows if they'll be worse or better...
