Hack / Mod of the Day

Cool; but with his skills, I'm sure he could have installed a cheap ass CD player instead.

I thought about doing this (not in a car though) back in the day when I had one of those CD-Rom drives with the play button up front. It's amazing most posters under that picture (not here, on that site) don't know you could do that.

lol that's got to be a joke. I can't imagine that it would handle shock very well

this reminds me of an old DIY articale (was it boot magazine?) that built a small Linux based pc to use in the double slot. kinda unnecessary now days with 50 dollar mp3 stereos.

Pretty cool, but not very practical in the age of portable music plays than can hold weeks/months of music. ;)

I want to see a zip/floppy now :eek (let me take you down to strawberry fie...*inserts next floppy)

My parents are from Bangladesh - was in a private taxi there and the driver had an Asus cd-rom plugged in his dash. All worked fine and the roads are craptastic over there.
Suprised that Asus has it's own office there too

I bet he pulls a lot of ass with that shit car.

Ah, everybody look, a real live virgin!

Your car has nothing to do with your ability to pull. The only thing it does is show quality. If she cares what you drive; pick another one.

Heh, I should make a list of Dec's dating tips. Here's another freebie: If she answers her cell phone during dinner, say "excuse me," get up, pay for dinner, go home. You're wasting you time.

Fixed that for ya. You can also trade "pay" for "skip out". :D:D

If I install Linux, does this mean I won’t crash?

Yes, but you’ll only be allowed to drive on Linux compatible roads.

oh man this is so thread necro.

Brother did this with his 'rolla a decade ago - worked in a PC store, always spare bits about yada yada yada and of course a drive wound its way into his centre console.

its beige because these days most drives skip the 'play' button functionality - you have to go back a bit to get drives with the extra button and that usually means pre-black era.

as for drive skipping and the like from my recollection that rarely happened; and this was a drive just sliding about in the DIN slot, no hard mount at all.

and Yes, Virginia, Virgins DO exist....(!)

What's wrong with toyota Camrys? They are the number one selling car ever....

That's right! Number one meaning they've got the same sales volume as Bic pens.
...and they're worth about as much too

and I don't care what JDPower, Kelly Blue Book, Autotrader.com or your friend with the big wing and fart cannon on his 82 corolla say either!

:)

Not at all. I'm going to guess you're under 16.

See ADULTS sometimes get involved in real relationships with other adults of the opposite sex. See real adults don't need a car to "pull ass" as you put it.

I'm happily attached to a wonderful woman, we've been together for 4 years. I have never need a car to "pull ass".

In this world, the type of "ass" you "pull" by having a nice car isn't the type of "ass" worth having because it's already been had by every other jackass in a nice car.

Ahhh, look, an immature little boy who thinks "pulling ass" is the ultimate goal in life.

I don't care what they say myself, but when you know people that have a Camry or Accord with close to 1/4 million miles on the same engine and transmission, the word "quality" comes to mind.

Little hint, just because a car isn't high performance or fast doesn't mean it's "shit". Some people like to get where they're going reliably and have their ride last a long, long time.

I would really like to know what your definition of a good car is.. Camry drives like a lexus...(oh wait), are reliable as an anvil and hold their value, fit and finish is good and they look good enough. I dont need kbb to tell me anything.

Ive had numerous hondas with over 200k that still drive like new. Toyotas are exactly the same even more so really. Go on and keep denying reality though.

Funny thing is a v6 camry/accord will outrun a v6 mustang. Japanese cars are high performance by default. Leave the (high output) moniker to the US makers.

It's cool but its ugly too, at least spray paint it black...?

I don't think that CD drive handles well with bumps, turns, etc.

I had a mercury tracer in wagon highschool and I pulled about +500% ass than any of my peers. It's not about the car bro =]

Hmm...I'm not so sure it's fair to say that in [H] forums. I mean, let's be real we're nerds whether we like to think so or not. :D

i've done a simmilar hack/mod to this before... old cd-rom, old psu, hairpin to connect the green/black wires and a set of pc speakers (i dont have a cdplayer only a pc connected to my lcd and amp).. used it for music when i was moving house packing up all my shit...

huh, I would've never thought about that mod. My last car, a 1998 Taurus, came with a tape deck but no CD player. For awhile I couldn't find an aftermarket replacement console for aftermarket radios and CD player, so I had to use the cassette tape to CD adapter and plug it into a Walkman CD player and just toss it on the passenger seat.

That mod would have worked in that Taurus because there's a storage compartment at the bottom of the console.
