@OfficerM
That is an awesome looking entertainment system, I love the clean lines of that particular furniture, but I cannot see it working as a computer setup. While it would be great from about 10' away as a home theater, using it in a nearfield scenario throws off too many things to make for an immersive environment. While it may be impressively loud and some what immersive, the positioning would not be accurate, the wave from your subs will not develop until it is behind you, having three centers has to be driving the channel of your amp into dangerous ohm loads and most of the action has to sound as if it is following you.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to dog your system, I just think it could be better utilized in an HT setup. You would really need to do some comparisons with a properly set up 5.1 monitor / bookshelf system (designed for nearfield) to experience what I'm talking about.
Thanks.. and that's exactly it... My computer setup doubles as my home theater in my bedroom. As for exact accuracy on the rear placement of the two rear speakers, its a mute point for me. My wife has made it abundantly clear that NO speakers are to be positioned to the rear of our entertainment center (which would place them directly around the front of our headboard of our bed.
As for the Ohm load, I did NOT tie all three speakers into one channel.. OMG! Each speaker is connected to its OWN CHANNEL (hence 5 point 1.. the exception to that is the sub.. I am not running one sub. I am running dual 12" subs. Each sub is powered by its own built in amp). Each of the 5 speakers are being run at 100 watts each. 5 speakers x 100 PER CHANNEL = 500 watts peak power. Each sub is running on its own 250 watt amplifier built into the sub itself.. 2 subs x 250 watts each = 500 watts peak power for a combined total of roughly 1000 watts at peak power. But this isn't a debate on "true" 5.1 imaging.. it's about my setup as it stands now and what I use it for.. As far as I am concerned, I am 100000% happy with the way my setup works for me. Two birds, one stone for a decent computer setup and a decent home theater IN MY BEDROOM (not my loft, not my den, not my living room.. LOL).
I really do appreciate the remarks and if any of you are ever in the SW Fort Worth area, I'd be happy to demo it anytime.. hehe.
