Let them do it, someone will find a way to stop the ads lol
Follow along with the video below to see how to install our site as a web app on your home screen.
Note: This feature may not be available in some browsers.
Wouldn't open source developers be more likely to use ads to stream revenues because they don't get any money from software sales?
I doubt they are going to put this into their retail operating systems. They would only be screwing themselves over if they did that.
HAHA! Bet your PC can't do that!
"In some implementations, the operating system can disable one or more functions during the presentation of the advertisements..."
Another useless world first from Apple.
Another worthless idea stolen from elsewhere and turned into a useless 'feature' from Apple.
If I could get a $30,000 dollar car for $10,000, I would be willing to watch a twenty second ad every time I started my car.
Advertising isn't always a bad thing...

They'd probably have to chip the machines in some way so that only the ad-supported versions of the OS could be installed. The trick would be making it reasonably hack-proof, which is probably next to impossible.
While were at it, lets patent a car that won't allow you to start or accelerate until you finish watching a 20 second ad which is displayed from your windshield. In addition, you won't be able to use your brakes until a 3 second ad is finished displaying.
Gonna spin this a different way.
Maybe the big, bad, evil Apple is patenting this to prevent it from being patented, and used, by another corporation - A selfless action to serve computer users across the world.
See? Just as plausible as any of the other explanations. Until this gets into software - big freaking deal.
That's really the thing, if it ends up in OS X, shame on Apple. Until then, whatever, there are so many thing patented that don't get anywhere near the hardware or operating system. One of the Macs strengths is no adware or crapware like you get on a Dell, HP, Gateway, etc, just a desktop light and fast and ready to work. Why change something so fundamental?
And where is the [H] outcry on Microsoft putting ads into versions of Office 2010? This isn't a patent, its actually happening. Maybe because it isn't as big a deal since its just office software, but I dunno, I find it just a notch less offensive.
