Hey guys, once again asking for comments on an upgrade. My current system isn't bad, but the upgrade bug bit, so...

Current system is:
GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3
Core 2 Duo E6400
GeForce 8800GT
GeForce 6200 (for a 3rd monitor)
2 x 1GB DDR2 667
Antec P150 case
Neo HE 430 PSU
2x WD Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB

Basically, I'm currently deciding between the AMD or Intel route. Here's what I've got so far:

$270 - ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX AMD and AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Combo

or

$325 - GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD3R LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX and Intel Core i5-750 Combo

I'll also be getting:

$86 - GSkill Ripjaw 2x2gb DDR3 1600

The rest of the stuff will come from my current build.

So, I guess my question is, which route would you go for? I'm looking at the Intel route for performance, but I'm also looking at the AMD route to save a little more towards a video card (haven't decided on one yet). I don't have a set budget, but I'd like to not spend more than I need. I use this PC for gaming primarily (either on a 20" LCD @ 1680 x 1050 or my 1080p HDTV), though on occasion some image / video editing, and I don't need anything special on the motherboard.

Thanks!

Thanks for nudging me in the right direction, guys. :D

Just to add a conclusion to this thread, I went ahead and ordered the RAM gwarren007 linked to and the Phenom II 945 combo lt_shiro linked to. I'm still debating the video card, but after saving a little bit on this purchase and finding the Win7 special mentioned in the [H]otDeals forum I think I can justify picking up the 5850 when newegg gets more in stock.

whew, good thing you went quad at least, hehe. if the price difference was negligible to you or you lived near a Fry's, I would have suggested the i5 ($220 for the ud3r combo in-store). though, as already noted, for gaming, not much difference in performance between the two, so the i5 isn't really needed.
