Shakira says she supports file sharing, claiming “music is a gift.” Whether or not you listen to her music, you have to respect her for taking a stand on file sharing like that.

Shakira said: 'I like what's going on because I feel closer to the fans and the people who appreciate the music. Shakira, pictured at the Whitney Museum of Art Gala in New York last night, doesn't mind music being illegally downloaded 'It's the democratization of music in a way. And music is a gift. That's what it should be, a gift.'

Well that puts an end to this whole debacle.

She is not greedy. She probably already has enough money to live the rest of her life in style.
 
Well, it's obvious the Recording Industry Association of America has no place in a society that has more or less abandoned the record as a viable means of acquiring music.

But music itself is here to stay. It wasn't invented by the RIAA, after all.

Its very simple why.. almost all musicians make their $ from tours and not the albums.. a majority of the album $ goes to the producers and labels.
 
It is funny to me becuase she doesn't write most if any of her music. So yeah give that shit away becuase you didn't put any real effort into it just singing like shit and dancing around like a whore.

Yes but dem whores at the “social spot” are doing what whores should be doing and that’s whoreing not chiming in on file sharing. She should stick to what she knows whoreing and STD sharing and leave the topic of file sharing the people who actually create intellectual property not just slap there name and dance to it.

you think file sharing is going to cause that ? it has not proved to work that way at all. some people have used that to their advantage as well.

Tours and merch are the money-makers for artists, not album sales. More people listening to Shakira means more Shakira fans means more concert-goers and merchandise buyers means more net profit for Shakira and her management. Simple.

The traditional model of selling albums is dead. The industry as a whole just hasn't caught up with the fact.

I wouldn't want her "gift" her voice is the worst effing thing I have ever heard. Just horrible, it would be a crime to call the noise she makes, "music"

Yep, she can do what ever she wants with her creative efforts. Micheal Moore has, so can she.

She doesn't speak for all content creators though. I am sure there are other people just as popular that have a totally valid but inverse point.

Back on topic, this is probably a publicity stunt... I'd like to watch her sign to any of her fans an autograph in the cover of a pirated cd and see if she still thinks the same way... :rolleyes:
 
Why the hate?

Shakira's music is as popular as it has been not only because she looks good - she's got real talent. I don't like her music in English so much, but the music in Spanish is all awesome. Listen to Estoy Aqui, or Moscas en la Casa, etc.

But anyway.

She does believe that music is a gift. She's performed a lot of benefit concerts for charity. She's not some greedy hack that doesn't know how to sing. She's done more for people than most of us would ever dream of.

I don't know man, ignorance just pisses me off. If you're going to be all hating on Shakira at least do it for the right reasons, not just to bash for the sake of bashing.

And like someone said, the artists make their money off tours and merchandise. Most artists don't even fight the file-sharers -- the recording industry is, and until they change their practices file sharing will not go away.

Copyright infringement is not theft. No physical product goes missing or is removed from the possession of another.

Ever find a funny image in a forum that you wanted to save, or some pics of a hot chick on GIS.... and right click-save as to your computer? Congrats, you just did the exact same thing as downloading a CD album as a torrent.
 
She might as well support downloading when even the record shops in Columbia are selling pirated music. She sells the most in South and Central America and Spain. In all of those places, no one pays for music at a store. They only pay for it by going to concerts.
