I’m not a U2 fan but this is pretty cool of them to do. The show will be streamed live and then a replay will be available after the show on YouTube and on the bands website.

"As we're filming the LA show, it's the perfect opportunity to extend the party beyond the stadium. Fans often travel long distances to come to see U2 -- this time U2 can go to them, globally." Google Inc's YouTube will stream the concert across five continents, and two replays will be available after the live feed.

Cool. It's like the old FM live concert broadcasts, but now a global digital video online.

I know some of you are gonna get all up on the high horses because someone mentioned Bono, but you have to admit, that U2 proves that just because your content is freely available doesnt mean that listeners wont support you.

U2 is successful not because they go out of their way to protect their copyrighted material and maximize profit potential, but because they actually produce incredible content that people will buy. I've got the CD's, I've got the Rattle and Hum. And they actually do positive things that makes me respect them as people.

They also put on a hell of a show. :)

U2 knows how to please people, and how to push people's buttons. I'm not saying they're doing it with evil or bad intended purposes but that's what they've been doing since the Joshua Tree came out. Since then, they've been writing the same songs over and over, and over again. But hey, AC/DC and Bon Jovi do exactly the same thing, and they do well. But Bono at least tries to help the tribes in Africa by giving up YOUR money so the chieftains steal it and continue to kill each other and the people the money was supposed to get to in the first place. Same thing they've been doing for the past 1000 years, only with modern weapons now.

U2 is ok by me. Not interested in the concert thats a nice thing for them to do.

I'm not a big U2 fan either, and always felt they were a bit pretentious but a few years ago I got the opportunity to go see them for free and it really changed my mind about them.

They played here at the Jacksonville stadium and we got tickets on about the 50 yard line about halfway up. They mounted a huge production with a large stage with a smaller stage out at about the 40 yard line connected to the main stage that sort of looked like an upside comma.

Jacksonville is an odd town and very fickle, so when it started lightly raining early that day, it pretty much doomed the concert. They ended up only having just over 10k people show up in a stadium rigged for 50k+ for the show. It rained off and on the whole time, and while most bands would have come out to see the nearly empty stands and lousy conditions to play a minimal set and bail, U2 played the full concert for 2 hours and came out for 2 encores.

On the first song during the intro, much to the dismay of security, they had the entire crowd all move up to pack in the empty seats, which meant we ended up level with the stage about 4 rows back from the edge. Nobody had a bad seat at that point unless they wanted one. They spent the next 5 minutes thanking the audience profusely for coming out in such crappy weather to see them.

On the first encore, they came down in this huge disco ball which deposited them on the secondary stage which opened up to have them get out wearing Jaguars Jerseys with the number U2 and their names on the back, two of which were given to audience members. T

In all, it was a helluva show. They brought people on stage to dance with them. One guy got brought up to sing. One to play guitar with Edge.

A memorable experience all around. I gained a lot of respect for them that day.

Like I said, they put on one of the best rock shows out there. I've seen pretty much everybody worth seeing and for international acts they're way the hell up there, not only because of their songs but because of the real connection they have with their fans. I've seen them pull people up numerous times, and the best show of theirs I went to was in 2005 when they pulled this girl band up on stage and they played this song from their first album, killed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVVscmW8N_I

What you saw was the PopMart tour from ten years ago, you should check out the current one. Its a shame that they're doing stadiums shows again, they're way too big with way too many people. I much prefer arenas, which they did again for the last two tours, but they do make the best of it with the 360 degree stage, the circular catwalk going into the field, and the giant screens.

Screw it, full disclosure. I've worked with them off and on since 2001 (I shoot commercials and music videos for a living), I've worked with most big artists out there, and U2 are among the best people I've worked with in any capacity. Great, decent guys that are totally committed to their work and their fans. It blows me away that they've been a band for over 30 years and still have that fire in them. There are jerks and disaffected primadonnas out there who look down upon their crew or the fans that put them there, and U2 are the farthest thing from that. Like or hate their music, I really can't imagine having beef with the band itself.
