Wonderful! I remember playing that and the ones that followed all the way up to fighting Rashaka in Pools of Darkness. :D Good Times.
 
Yeah I got in trouble for posting a Tribes 2 shot as Tribes, but for me Tribes 2 was Tribes. I was a UT guy when Tribes 1 was big.

Tribes 2 (for me) was the first game that features that type of scale, as opposed to a closed in environment.

Good times.
 
tribes was a way better twitch shooter... but tribes 2 IMHO was the better game....

it still had a very, very high degree of skill separation (like part 1).... and the epic huge firefights and vehicles in part 2 made me fall in love with it....

the achilles heel for tribes 2 was the insanely high system requirements when it first came out.... choked off alot of potential sales :(

poor dynamix... it makes me sad to think that the tribes and starsiege franchises are dead and buried.....

It's actually still (barely) alive - on the last threads of life support. I was a die hard for a long time, but finally gave up after they pulled the plug on the authentication servers. The community has made a workaround, but it wasn't worth hanging onto anymore IMO. I think it still would make for a nice Lanparty though.

Um... that depends on when you played it. At first, or after it got fixed. I was in the beta, and it was a disaster. Fun fact: the devs got beat down in Tribes at a lan. They didnt like this, and decided to slow down Tribes 2 a lot. Because "skiing" was not intended to be in the game. It wasnt supposed to be so fast. But thats what made it so good! It was very hard to casual gamers to pick up, because the learning curve was so big. Bigger than any FPS Ive ever played. It was so fast, so many different load outs, so many maps to memorize skiing. There has never been a game to match the enjoyment level DX or SH 10vs10 for me. Playing naked, relying on nothing but skill.

T2 ran very poorly. The tank had tracks on it in the beta, went to wheels to increase fps. They added more fog, to get more fps. It had constant UE problems. And it was incredibly slow paced. And ran poor on even the fastest systems.

It wasnt until a user created patch that made the game much faster, did it get really good. The devs abandoned it, and the players fixed it. And actually became enjoyable. Scripting played a huge roll in T1 and T2. Sadly, cheating really hurt T1. Happy flag. :(

Im still just a little bitter. That being said, I was in the top T2 team for a while, but gave it up and went back to T1. Went back to T2 after they fixed it, and did get some enjoyment out of it. Tribes was way ahead of its time, imo. The voice chat menu, the voting system (why cant games now days be so simple?) the different loadouts you could use i.e. light, medium, or heavy, with different weapons. The list goes on and on.

edit, go to www.tribalwar.com for Tribes info. People still play, but most do not anymore. Ive been a member of their forums for a hair less than 10 years now.

I still have disks for those... omg...

And I think my first game was Warcraft 1... I was 5 years old.. I didn't know how to do anything I just made roads and buildings...

But those came shortly after.... LEGO ISLAND ... hahaha...

I played competitive Tribes 2 for a while, considered myself the best shrike pilot ever... I don't remember what clan I was with or how we did, but I know that I made those shrikes last forever, could outrun/manuever missles and trick them into crashing into stuff... Atleast that's how I remember it. I downloaded the Tribes 1 demo off fileplanet and thought, this is a neat game, I'll go buy it... go to Gamestop and it happened to be the same day Tribes 2 was released... grabbed that instead and was hooked... Tribes Vengeance ruined the series for me but was still a fun game...

Anyone remember Planetside (still going but slowly dieing)... I just subbed/cancelled again last month... never played a game like it in terms of sheer scale... MMOFPS with hundreds of people on the same continent, constant battle over planets, was quite awesome when you played with an outfit (clan) and coordinated massive attacks / resecures / sneak sabotages whatever it was... there was so much to do...

One of the best games in the King's Quest series. It came out the year I was born and its the first game I can remember playing.

KQIV was the first game with a female protagonist, mouse support (although commands were still text based), and a soundtrack with support for sound cards/midi synthesizers. It has an in game clock with day/night cycle, a decent story, and its actually good looking for a 16 color game.
 
I loved tribes 1 to death and I thought Tribes 2 was a huge POS over the first one.

I played both for a bunch of years, and I thought T2 was the better. Vengeance was the one that blew....I gave it a few months of play at best.

I think I see Karateka, the original NFS, and... Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. So many hours in that game. I should still have the box and stuff for it.

Because those flight sims bring back memories, but I cannot remember the game! Please refresh my memory.
