How is ZZF's shipping?

Not that great of a price. I'd hold off until it's at most $65 shipped. Preferably $55-60. But ZZF's HDD shipping is fine.

I buy all my HDs from ZZF, if your question is having confidence in safely packed HDs.

If you mean speed, they're a lot slower than Newegg most of the time, both in terms of getting it out the door and their typical delivery times. ZZF, at least for me, tended to use Ground, which actually took the full 7 days unfortunately for me. I'm near a Newegg warehouse so it's 1 day shipping via UPS's cheapest option. Your case may obviously vary.

If you're talking about the packaging, ZZF's, on average, tends to get better reviews.

I don't remember the exact details but generally

ZZF: A kind of foam/styrofoam container that's about the size of a HD and encloses the entire HD and then taped shut. I forget the outside but probably peanuts. The foam isn't enough if they don't add any peanuts.

Newegg: A layer of bubble wrap around the HD and then peanuts.

In theory, both methods should not damage the drives but on average, Newegg's shipping is worse because they are more likely to skimp on the peanuts. They used to skip the peanuts altogether sometimes and just add some paper instead but I think they stopped that.

Best shipping that I've seen is probably RMAs from Seagate. Solid block of cushion-y foam through the entire volume of the box with a small rectangular prism section cut out in the middle that is the size of a HD. Problem is that you don't want to encounter this type of shipping very often. :)

Supposedly Newegg has improved their packaging. I should know by Friday. I have a 1 TB Green coming from ZZF and 640 Black from Newegg. I also have a 500 Black coming from eWiz for someone tomorrow so I'll probably take a pic of all 3 next to each other.

Packaging wise they are great. Foam block around OEM drives (haven't ordered a RB from them). then a bunch of packing peanuts around that.

Speed wise is average once they ship it, I have no complaints. I usually order on the weekend so my stuff doesn't usually ship till monday anyway.

Frys.com also has some interesting packing. The OEM drives are placed inbetween two sheets of plastic that are stretched across some cardboard frame and the drive is suspended in the middle of the box, its reminds of a hammock I suppose.

I pretty much order my HDDs from ZZF or buy them at frys though. usually i go with ZZF unless frys has a sale.

I ordered an external dock from ZZF. UPS lost it. I contacted ZZF, they handled the loss filing, etc and had a new enclosure shipped right out. Customer service was top notch.

In my experience they take a few days to process the order and ship it out. Packaging is great, as has been noted. I had DOA drive from them a few years back and the process to exchange it with them was much worse compared to newegg. No advanced RMA, I had to wait for them to get the drive, test it on their own to confirm that it was dead, and only then would they start the process of slowly getting me another drive. Pushed my build back a month.

Yeah I don't think ZZF ever adapted efficiently to the increase in traffic since the GoogleGear days. They had 2-day air and processed same day back then...not so much now.
