I saw this on Google News this morning and I thought I would share, seems like a decent deal to me. You have to sign up for a contract obviously, but this is the cheapest I have seen this phone for. They have it on their website also so you don't even have to leave your desk!

Here is the link.

I've got the Palm Pre and think it's an amazing phone. Problem is the hardware quality is terrible. :(

$80 is an outstanding deal if you get a good phone.

damn now I really want it. I just need to find a way to keep my SERO plan. . . .:D

I've been itching to get my first smartphone and I'm still on the fence about this one. On one hand, it's an amazing deal, but there's also the TP2, the hero, and whatever else may be coming out soon. Pretty sure I'll be going sprint though, that everything deal for 70$ is too good to pass up. Hmm...

sounds like a good deal. i wish i could get one, but i would use a zack morris cell phone if it meant it can keep my sero plan.

I'm kind of interested in the Palm Pre and other smart phones coming out. I have an iphone, but it seems like everybody has one now. I don't know, I kind of like to have devices that are a little less 'popular'.

I love my Pre. WebOS 1.2 just came out. Get the $70 plan and you get AnyMobile and basically don't need the other ones unless you call a lot of landline...go to a third party store are you can talk them into a discount...mine is $54 before insurance and fees

And you can actually get it for free: http://www.precentral.net/act-fast-get-pre-free-after-rebates

What is the deal with the hardware quality??

Just paid $100 after MIR for mine at the Sprint store. It was $250 minus $50 for being a new customer minus $100 for MIR. Got an everything plan with 450 anytime mins for 55 after discount.

As for the phone... I love it. This is my first smartphone, but I have an iPod touch so I'm quite familiar with the iPhone OS. WebOS has many key advantages, but it doesn't seem quite as well polished as the now mature iPhone OS. I think it will get there with time. Check out www.precentral.net if you're thinking about buying a Pre. There is a vibrant community of Pre owners over there.

I like every thread about a new Sprint phone because the SERO users come riding in on their high horse wambulance.

the hardware sucks.

most of them oreo (top will twist substantial amount when tried) 1 drop and its almost trash it uses some acrylic or glass on the entire front of the phone so cracks happen if its dropped.

they have/had a horrible battery problem where they consume the battery just sitting around. one of the phones has this issues and eats the entire battery in 3/4 of a day without making any calls.

dont let the battery die all the way or u might not get it to work again
(the other phone had this happen and a new battery was required to make it work again)

one phone was dropped, corner cracked and then it lost ALL of the screws (6) holding the upper and lower part together. sprint's warranty on smart phones sucks, and we had to wait weeks for the new one because they are failing so often sprint cant keep a stock.

now, if u can get past all the hardware, the software is amazing.

multitask as much as u want, app stores good. updates straight to the phone

camera lacks zoom. no movies :( had trouble at time getting the phone to recognize new mp3's dropped in. btw when plugged into the pc it can act just like a usb drive drag and drop.

anyways good luck get urself a hardshell case if u get one and treat it like what it actually costs and u should really like it alot.

Sero customers can keep their plan even if they buy a new phone. Just tell the people at the store you want to keep your current contract and just renew it.

Pre requires an Everything plan. Many have tried to move over the SERO plan with no success.

Why not just buy the pre straight up and put it on your plan yourself?

My boss bought me a HTC touch and we put it on my SERO plan np.

The Omnia 2 is meant to be coming out soon for Verizon. That looks like it'll pretty much blow everything away. I just got the Rogue which is kinda like the little dumb phone brother to the Omnia 2.

The Sprint system will reject the ESN if you are on SERO.

I have had a pre for 6 long weeks now.. I wouldnt normally go slamming a product like this, but this one REALLY annoys me..Also I'd be uber wary of signing anything that locks you into any term with this phone as I'm stuck with mine for the next 6 months, and I would really like to save someone else getting stuck with one of these..

1:- it dogs, real fast, real quick.. say you're checking your email, or texting someone, and THEN someone phones you, the phone will freeze up then it'll display the "answer" button, and then if you're lucky and you touched the answer button it'll freeze some more and you'll be sat there going "hello ?? helloo ?? " until it connects the call..
2:- Dropped calls... The reception on this phone is rubbish.. The last 2 phones I had got 2 bars in my home, this one gets 1, and whenever people call, they are always bitching that i'm cutting out..
If you should be unlucky enough to drop a call, you're rewarded with an EAR SPLITTING happy bell sound..This alone has gotten me soo close to throwing the damn thing out the window.
3:- To make a phone call without sliding it open and trying to use the keypad, is a nightmare.. it's doggy, and god help you if you need to make a call in a hurry.. With the older phones you could make a call with 2 button presses , you can do that with this if you program some hot keys, but then you gotta hold the button down for a second or two to make the call.. and then wait for the phone app to load up etc.. I worry that I'll have to call 911 someday.. To make a call you have to either scroll thru all your contacts, or start typing in their name, then select it and THEN press the call button
4:- boot up time.. I put some homebrew apps on there, and it now takes over 2 minutes to boot up
5:- It seems to loose connection to the battery if the phone is jarred lightly, resulting in another boot up
6:- Palm official apps - there are few. and from what I was reading the other day there is unlikely to be more as developers simply cannot get their apps approved
7:- camera - there is no video function, only take pics..
8:- Battery life - awful.. if you're doing anything other than using it as a phone, dont expect to be doing it for much over an hour or so
9:- it's shaped like a slippery bar of soap, and acts like it at times, ..
10:- the button to turn on the screen is also the button to drop the incoming call.. so if a call comes in at that magic moment where it's just turning off the screen you'll drop the call as it wont turn the bloody screen on..

Overall it feels like it's still just in beta stage, and I cannot wait for my 6 months to be up so I can offload this pig, it is by far the most annoying phone I've ever owned.

Good things
Pandora rocks
it plays videos easily and has 8 gig so you can load it up
jacks into wireless networks
screen is pretty
