Psh, try $399 for a 19" regular aspect, actually I have 2 of them :p

and you can keep going back in time as well to get even more astronomical prices :p

Obligitory OMFG TN IT WILL BREAK YOUR LEGS AND RAPE YOUR BABIES AND MURDER YOUR FAMILY IN THE NIGHT AND STEAL ALL YOUR MONEY AND LEAVE YOU A SHADOW OF A MAN.

Now that we're through with that:

Picked up this the last time it was on sale. Great picture. Love the dot pitch. The factory color profile is pretty good to my semi-trained eyes, and the viewing angles are OK. Worthy upgrade to my old 2005FPW.

Obligatory:

+ bing cashback.

I agree tigerdirect is the better deal for those of us that live with newegg tax. They also have slightly higher bing cashback than newegg.

I'd imagine people who cry foul on TN panels, don't even own a S-IPS panel either.

I have a Dell 30 S-IPS, next to two Sceptre 19 TN's, and guess what? The Dell looks better, has better pictures, and I will be buying 2 more whenever I can to replace the 19's. But know whats funny? The 19's don't look bad at all. In fact, if I wasn't doing 2D, or 3D work, and trying to be color correct, I wouldn't care to much either. TN panels are fine for 95% of tasks, they will not rape your children, burn down your house, and take your wife. They aren't as good as S-IPS, but its not like they can't be used, I mean seriously, even CRT monitors are fine, just take up to much space.

I calibrated all 3 monitors to be as color correct as possible, with my Pantone.

If you can afford a S-IPS go for it, but its not end all getting a TN.

and the fact remains that most people end up using TN anyways, and there are many variations in how good a TN panel can be.

I would love an S-IPS, but my 1 TN is very good. Funny as I have 2 of the same model and one is much better than the other.

i rock the TN panels. the last couple years they got so good its really a non-issue. sure, if you have the money, need it, or just want to use as a tv (need to view it from all angles) then TN can be less appealing, but its nowhere near as bad as online reviews make them seem.

I'm probably going to pick up some extra TN panels for around my office. I need to replace the aging monitor on my test bench and add another for my server/secondary workstations. I damn sure won't get this model though. I hate glossy panels. Great price though.

question- does downscaling on this monitor effect the sharpness or quality of text much? i know its a non issue since games can scale well on any lcd, but i was just curious to how it does on the desktop with lower resolutions.... what does 1080p look like on it?

Dan, this isn't a glossy panel. Matte finish, and one of the better ones at that. The high glossy they're referring to is the bezel and stand.

Gives a rough idea. I think it scales pretty well myself. One of the better scaling panels I've had.

edit: better pics.

Nevermind. These are the panels I wanted then.

If I hadn't bought another gun today, I'd be all over these.

I have this monitor - it's great - picked it up for 179 from costco earlier this summer... It was an open box.... Somehow they had gotten two opened for the display so marked one down...

Same, I bought this monitor @ Microcenter in the summer for $189 - some sneaky sale they had when I was in there for something else. Anyway, it's a beautiful monitor - I'd suggest getting a neo-flex stand though, if you want height control. It does swivel on its base.

Games look great (hell, it prompted me to pick up my GTX 295 so I could turn up the res). Blu-ray @ 1080p looks fine too. I've tried blu-ray movies @ 1080p and 2048x1152 and I couldn't tell a difference. Plus H264/VC1/MPEG2 @ those bitrates make any minor scaling that may occur unnoticeable.

It's not a huge monitor, but you get alot of real estate and in Vista/Win 7 the icons and all don't look as tiny as they do in Win XP x64.

Wasn't it $169 or something. I really wanted this one (or another 30"). Somehow I'm more attracted to 16:9 than to 16:10.

thanks. pretty much what i figured, that looks damn near perfect. its a lot easier to scale down when you have so many pixels to use it seems....

from what i can tell, all screens are going 16:9. nice, because it matches up tv's with pc displays... but i wonder why they went 16:10 to begin with. i think its due to manufacturing costs, but im not sure.

regardless, this is not a good deal on this screen. stop posting to the thread or lock it.

i find it amazing how itchy everyone is to lock threads in a discussion forum:rolleyes: deals are relevant to many factors other then price, and this deal here is not a ripoff... so whats your problem with people talking?

Sometimes it take lowers prices to get eyes on a great prodcut like this. That was probably the case of the deal before this one.

This is really a great monitor, and moving from 1920x1200 to 2048x1152 is a lot easer that moveing to 1920x1080.

Paying one cent more than the lowest possible price is a ripoff.
This is $20-30 more expensive than the lowest prices on this monitor.
The thread should be locked because this is, in fact, NOT a [H]otdeal.

This is the [H]otdeals discussion forum, not the Displays and Monitors discussion forum. Which is where your discussion belongs.

I'm not bashing the screen at all. I have two of them, and love them. I posted the ACTUAL hot deal on this screen a month ago.

Oh knock it off. The only difference between the deal you posted and this one is a $20 MIR. I think it's a pretty good price for the monitor all things considered. Let the other members make their decisions themselves.

show me where you can get it $30 cheaper right now. what does a month ago matter? whos to say when if ever it will get back to that price?

Its a good deal compared to other prices available RIGHT NOW. Its a good $30-$50 cheaper than any other online site.

Not true, it's available at most of the 'cheap' retail online stores for $199.

Got one from TigerDirect, keep getting these faint red flickering horizontal and vertical lines all over, in both VGA and DVI. Anyone else having this problem with their panel?

No, sounds like either a gpu or monitor issue. try the screen on a different machine, if it's still doing it... RMA... If not... Time for a new GPU.

Agreed but on a 19" the vertical angle shift is not nearly as bad because of the smaller screen area. On a 24" however it is rather noticeable.
