Ok, so I just redid my machine a little while back and tonight was hooking up my ipod touch and itunes and such again. I stopped auto filling my iPod a long time ago so I dont have to reload it just because I reinstalled itunes (among other reasons), but then I was playing around with the new firmware and the new application sorter on itunes......

Turns out none of my apps are on my computer and the only thing I can do is redownload them ONE BY ONE back onto my computer having to find them again in the app store

This is ridiculous, they are all still there on my iPod and I can even see them in the App view (but not sort them or manage them)....this is the kinda crap that I hate in how they cripple things. I hate how they make everything a one way street to the iPod/iPhone (like how you cant copy back playlists either...). I get the thing with songs, but common with the other stuff.

So, does anyone have a solution besides one by one redownloading each app? I cant believe Apple would be this stupid but it looks like they indeed are based on what I have seen on their forums and other forums around the net.

If you back up your iTunes folder and then restore it after re-doing your machine, everything will be there including apps.

Backing up your folder will do it, I did it when I moved over to Snow Leopard.

lol so Rick posted his phone number and it got indexed by google? haha fail.

That does not work for apps, just purchased audio/video.

I guess I should have done that then, too bad I didnt as I didnt think I would need to for any reason

I'll have to remember that as I'm turning into an app whore! 1 day with my touch and I'm closing in on 40 apps, haha! God, I love this keyboard!

I just confirmed that it works for apps.

The Transfer Purchases function works, and it's actually a convenient way of sync'ing apps across two machines too (even tho I don't think that's what Apple intended the function for)... Obviously you need to be logged into the same account (and authorized) on both machines, but it's more convenient than backing up the iTunes folder constantly and/or sync'ing it to other systems. App/photo sync'ing (and the occasional video) is all I really use iTunes for anyway. MediaMonkey all the way for music.

Edit: While we're somewhat on topic... Is there a way to nuke the iPod touch back to factory settings and then restore your own settings from a backup? (like actual settings... bookmarks, saved networks, app settings for those that have 'em, e-mail accounts, etc) I somehow ended w/a chunk of music that's not properly sync'd or identified or something and it just shows up as 'Other' so it's taking up a few GB of space but not accessible by iTunes, MM, or anything. Restoring an earlier backup didn't do anything to solve it even tho the backup was from before it happened, so I don't even know what's included in the iTunes device backups now (I thought it backed up the entire device, guess not).

Oh and holy hell, they finally fixed the bug on the 2nd gen touch where any image you saved off the web/e-mails was tagged incorrectly and would show up as a blurry mess when re-opened within the device (but not when sync'd to the desktop)... I just noticed that after I upgraded to 3.1.1 (I skipped 3.0 entirely), it only took a complete OS update for it to happen too, good one Apple. After an entire year (and two previous updates) I had lost hope they'd fix it (even tho the 1st gen was never affected by it AFAIK)... Seems it's even retro-active so previously saved photos were re-tagged by the OS, nice.

I went w/ the Griffin Wave @ BB for $17.49. It comes w/ 2 cases and 2 screen protectors. They also had a DLO softshell, but it spits out the glare from light around you, has a chinsy overly flexible bottom piece, and felt a little thicker. The Wave doesn't feel like your traditional silicon. It's more of a harder, smoother material. It fits super snug and feels great in the hand.

I went by Target too and they had an Incase Slider for $35. Biggest POS I've ever seen. It's just 2 plastic pieces...that's it.

Yup. I transfer all my OTA purchases to my PC this way.

Get Bargain Bin. It'll show you everything that's on sale. And remember that "purchasing" a free item marks it as being purchased on your account, so you can access it in the future if you need it, even if you delete it right away. It's horrible for those of us with OCD tendencies.

The retail on the Wave is $25 each or $35 for the 2-pack from what I've seen. Sounds like you got it for half price.

The Wave sounds a lot like the Slider. Looking at the 3G Wave, it appears to be a little bigger than the Slider, and it leaves more of the phone exposed. The bottom of the Slider comes off easily (hence the name) for docking. The texture on it gives it some grip, but not the stickiness like you get with regular silicone cases. Both the size and the color make it a very subtle case. If I can find a 3G Wave cheap enough I may check it out, but I have zero complaints about the Slider, other than the price.

P.S. The Wave also looks like just 2 plastic pieces...that's it. =)

All I know is the Incase Slider cost 2x as much for 1/2 the product and no screen protector. :D
