And the award for “oddball statement of the day” goes to Microsoft's general manager of corporate strategy. Trust me, if there is anyone that knows a thing or two about saying oddball stuff, it’s me. :D

"What people underestimate is the importance of good or bad products," said Songhurst. "And sometimes your products are good, sometimes the products are bad. And I think Vista was a less good product for Microsoft."

Vista is less good than Windows 7, but I felt it was superior to Windows XP. I used it for a long time, for just about every task from office stuff, to gaming, to coding, and it was just more usable than XP.

So, if Vista is less good, Windows 7 is "more better"?

I'm not mad...I thought it was "okay". Nothing beats Windows 2000 IMO...haven't tried 7 yet though.

Yo, Microsoft, I'm really happy for you, and Imma let you finish, but I just got to say windows xp is the best OS there is!

I had 0 issues with Vista. 0.

Just wish I didn't have to pay more to get to Win 7... (and don't point me to the msddnawhateveritis)

Even Ubuntu is better than XP. XP was good for its time but it's way past old news now.

Nah...there's too many Windows apps out there that you can't use in Ubuntu. Don't get me wrong, I like Ubuntu, but Ubuntu has less flexibility for the average user.

Vista sucked, saying it was "less good" is like sugar coating a turd.

vista didnt suck, 3rd party programs support for it did. i have had 0 issues with vista but still plan on going to 7 when it comes out just because that is the nerd thing to do

Bullshit it has less flexibility for the average user. The average user watches videos, uses facebook, and listens to music. Ubuntu is more than capable of doing these things and even comes with an office suite and a decent photo/image editor. Decent Linux distros are at least modern. XP isn't even that and it's cumbersome to get around at that.

How so? Vista did everything I wanted it to do and I never had a single crash with it the last 2+ years of using it. Whereas XP crashed numerous times in the years I ran it.

Vista was perfectly fine, probably even more so than xp ever was.

I have 3 XP systems and 1 Vista system and i'll go on record as saying Vista is a great OS. I turned off the User Account controls because they were a PITA, but otherwise I love it. Sure there were some early problems getting drivers, but I think much of the Vista hate is unwarranted.

I had problems initially with software not installing correctly when the UAC was off. THAT was a PITA for me. Other than that, Vista worked fine for me.

I enjoyed Vista, have always hated XP, Win7 seems like pure win in the week I've been using it.

Vista 64 has never given me so much as a second's grief, which is more than I can say for the lifespan of WinXP.

um i dont think anyone thought ms hit a homerun with vista. we all were reading articles for two years, each one taking out more and more features because ms was having so much trouble getting vista stable.

thing is, vista was not a one and done thing. they designed the longhorn os to span about 4-5 releases, and everyone knew vista would be fairly basic by the time it hit RTM... we also knew by the time win7 RC showed up that longhorn was making good progress and things seem back on track for MS now. vista had a shakey open at the gate, but hardly a 'less then good' product as it stands now at sp2.

Steve, you're flamebaiting :-P

You and I know Vista's been a great OS. It's people who's too cheap to upgrade their stuff.

Microsoft is just doing a PR spin. They're getting people off Vista so they can buy 7. Hell, you can bet your ass Microsoft will say XP is a very insecure OS too!

im fine with vista xept for random times where it hitches and the end program menu pops up for no reason.

Vista was by far more stable then XP ever was. Loved Vista. Never gave me any problems and I was running it from a week after its release until Windows 7 hit RTM.

Vista was good (eventually). Windows 7 is better. Is it a completely new operating system worth >$150? Hell no. If anything, they should take cue from what Apple did with Snow Leopard's pricing.

While I enjoyed XP while I used it, I have to say that over that time, it gave me way more problems than Vista ever has. I've used Vista ever since it was preloaded on OEM machines before it was sold as a standalone package in retail stores (I bought a laptop), and it has always worked fine for me. Earlier this year I upgraded Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Vista Business x64, and it has worked amazingly well. I actually installed it as a test because I'd never used a 64-bit OS before. I half-expected driver compatibility issues, etc, but that wasn't the case. Windows Update found all the drivers I needed...even my 7 year old Quickcam IM had 64-bit drivers and worked perfectly. I'm still using it right now and would never turn back.

Vista is fine. It's just that one moron screamed "ZOMG Vista uses 100 pursent of mah RAMZ!!!111one!" and the rest of the morons heard. :p

Brace thyself for worms erupting from this can. Not that I disagree, really.

They really should. I mean they already offer multiple systems free Win 7 upgrades, students can get it for 29.99, I mean they should just go all the way and drop the price for everyone.

Vista was fine after SP1 was released.... didn't use it very much before that, but SP1 fixed most of the issues Vista had in the first place (slow file copying locally and over the network).

I got my copy for "free" for doing a small bit of work for a friend who had bought a 3-pack of Vista Business upgrade.

And I have already bought a copy of Windows 7 Professional via the promotional pre-order pricing that MS had a while back.

I can not stand XP anymore on my own machine.... it is too buggy and jacks stuff up too often for me to even think about running it.

XP was good while it lasted, Vista was better, and 7 is even better.

I thought XP was pretty great - ran it for 3 years as my main machine without a rebload until I tried to install SP3 and it borked.

Never felt the need to move to Vista - and now I'm glad I didn't.

I will be switching to win7 though.

windows 7 runs on most pc based hardware(including netbooks), Snow Leopard only runs on the newer x86based mac hardware;)

Let's all congratulate Vista for being better than something from 2001, at the least (the core was older). Assuming the hardware was upgraded, most P4, 512MB web surfers won't do well with Vista.

Maybe Madden 08 was better than Madden 2002? Or Oblivion vs Baldur's Gate games?

Vista is stable and has some things that were broken in XP fixed. Its just full of bloat and you have to spend a while configuring it to not suck. Simple file sharing, cut half the services, turn off UAC, etc...

I only paid about $99 for my copy back when it came out. I liked it better than XP and really didn't have any problems with it. I've upgraded to 7 now.
