Will Modern Warfare 2 Be The Best Game Ever

So ModernWarfare2 is getting some of the best pre-release ratings of all times, the gameplay trailer looks phenomenal, and the fact that it is being released for every major system (besides Wii) is making me think we are about to get the highest grossing game of all time.

MadCatz even released an entire line up of accessories specifically for the game. So what are your opinions, biggest game ever? If not what do you think tops it?
 
I think it will be great, though Halo2 will stay at the top of my list for a long while...
 
This game will be average at best. run and gun games with not substance = average. if it had online coop on the main story then we may be into something
 
Not by a long shot. As much as I like COD it's still just a generic shooter.
 
I watched a few videos of COD 1 and 2.

I can understand your statement now, even within the COD series, COD4 is pretty generic.
(dunno about COD6).

COD5 just spazzed out with Nazi Zombies (and this became popular).

halo 2 would of been the best game ever if little kids werent allowed to use mic's on the xbox/xbox 360.. the game was fun but you could only deal with little kids saying the F word every other word for so long before you wanted to kill every one of them with your bare hands and then their parents for even letting them have the mic..


honestly i dont think MW2 will be the best game ever.. sure it will gross a ton of money on its initial release but i think the hype will die off pretty quick.. thats been the trend with a lot of games that have been over hyped and MW2 will fall under that same category..

Well I guess I should have specified a little better, though it's good to see peoples opinions of the game (even though we can only judge it by trailers right now)

So maybe not the Best Game Ever...

But how about selling the most copies ever? Because COD4 was the most popular multi-platform game ever and it had about half the hype that Modern Warfare 2 has, I see it being an extremely huge game.

Anyone who thinks it will be has a pretty narrow view of games, My definition of the best game ever is value for money, and quake 2 to this day cant be touched (for me), sure it looks like hell now, but with all the mods they made for that game, it was well well well worth it.

Its definitely will not be the best graphically, and its definitely not the best at the act of pointing and shooting for many reasons, although when call of duty 1 came out, it was pretty close.

This thread seems to be based on a "popularity" contest, the best games are never wildly popular, with the one reasonable acceptation of half life 2.
 
I love the modern warfare series!

one of the huge reasons i think this game is going to be great is because of the weapons selection!

i love having all the cool new modern weapons like the HKm416, SG556, etc etc and all those other cool variations and being able to modify them with scopes, GL's suppressors, etc.

that's why i am playing combat arms so much is because they've got a great variety of guns that are all sweet looking and stuff :p

but i hope the online play for MW2 will not be the same on the PC as COD4 is, because i hate having to dodge bullets coming from random locations through a wall.... that isnt what a shooter like COD is meant to be.
 
I can't pass judgement, but I've never been too impressed with the videos and screen shots of the game. I know most are old, and have been floating around for how long... but it just didn't look like a visual step forward, while COD2 to COD4 (to me) was a big leap on the PC.

It won't be. Look at how well WoW, GTA, Mario, Sims, Tetris, Pokemon, Nintendogs, Wii Fit, and Wii Play have done.
 
I think it will be a Very Good Shooter, but I wouldn't call it the best game ever.


It may end up being the highest grossing, but that to me isn't all that impressive. The state of gaming these days, considering the widespread release of consoles and multiplatform games, as well as factoring in inflation, renders the whole "highest grossing" term pretty irrelevant, IMHO. It's a hype term that just doesn't impress me.



I'll get MW2. I'll have fun with MW2. Will it be the life-changing experience of a game that some people are making it out to be? Probably not.
 
Half-life holds that spot for me, MW2 will have to have naked chicks in it to make me change that :p
 
I thought the single player for modern warfare 1 was awesome and hope they can follow up on modern warfare 2. I also got a lot of hours out of playing online of course. I think it will be the best of this year, but not the best ever imo.

Totally agree, the weapon selection for MW2 is unbelievable. So many new guns, and the graphics of each looks pretty awesome. Definitely not THE selling point for me, but it is A selling point. I watched some video of all the new weapons, can't find it now, but I will post it if I do.

I guess I was ignorant though to think everyone was going koo koo for MW2. I don't know.... just personally COD games seem to be some of the most fun to play for me. Unlike other FPS games like CounterStrike, Halo, and others there is just more to the game play; such as air strikes, perks, huge variety of guns plus addons for the guns, awesome leveling system (IMO)

I don't know, maybe it will end up letting me down, but to me I'm thinking this may be the best game I've ever played, since COD 4 was probably top 3, and by the way I have played just about every game listed in this thread.

Well I agree to some extent, not really a visual step forward. MW2 looks very similar to MW and MW looked pretty dated when it came out. I do really like the character models and animations however, but the environs look insipid and lifeless.
 
Its a mild update original game. Thats not to say it will automatically suck, Im sure it will be good (looks fun at least) but I'm not expected something earthshattering or revolutionary, espicially as there seems to be a new COD game every year now. Its not going to be a XCOM or X-WING/TIE-Fighter or WOW.
 
how can people rate a game that hasn't even been released yet??...as far as best game ever, I think it has a chance of being one of the highest selling games ever but I don't think it will be the best in terms of quality...the game is too short to get that honor
 
I guess my opinion is also colored by Activision's decision to raise PC prices, too.

Just about every single game released now days is for all platforms.

There's going to be around 7-8 COD's now. There hasn't been anything different in game play, what so ever. The only thing to change in the games is the time period and the weapons. I don't know what they have done to make Modern Warfare 2 different then Modern Warfare. If i'm not mistaken it takes place roughly in the same place as the first one, with probably the same weapons?

Single player will be lacking too, which is always a reason why i buy a game.

This game is boasting $60 bucks for the PC version, which is going to turn away some people. There's two other games coming out in November too, which are all $50. Dragon Age Origins (Nov. 3) and Assassins Creed 2 (Nov. 17). With Mass Effect 2 in December. Dragon Age Origins looks sweet...I'm a big rpg fan :D... supposdely it's like a successor to Baldur's Gate, for all those retro gamers out there ;)
 
MW2 will be a phenominal game, but best game ever? No. I actually don't think it will be as good as the first MW game.
 
Small maps, no vehicles, and no real team tactics... And you think it will be the best game ever?

Highest Grossing Game So Far: Very Possible.

At my area here in the burbs of Miami/Ft Lad the local game stop has already 500 pre-orders. And another one just a few more miles away has a 1000 pre-orders.
 
If enemies infinitely respawn, then it is not even in the running. Sure it will be fun but when you play multi and can't walk 10 feet without getting killed because they allow the game to be spammed by artillery barrages, it can not be considered that great.
