Halo:ODST trailer

I'm not a Halo fan either but that was pretty bad ass.

I hate Halo, my roommate has Halo 3 and I played it for 5 min before getting bored with it but I must agree with the other laddies and say that was a bad ass trailer.

God, that was awesome. A bit BSG-ish, but in a good way (I'm seriously wondering what that piece of music was).

That was cool. I ended up pre-ordering a copy from Amazon the other day, because they have a deal where you get 10 bucks off your next game purchase. However, there's also another coupon code to get an additional 5 bucks towards your next purchase, to total 15. It made the full price a bit more bearable. Firefight mode is what pushed me over the edge.

That trailer owned. I don't know if BB is still offering this but last week you could buy one 360 game for retail and get another for 50% off. I picked up Batman and only spent $30 on ODST, which is more in line with what they originally planned to charge.

Planned on picking up ODST anyways, but this trailer make me want it today. They need to make a damn Halo movie already and quite teasing with these awesome shorts.

We don't seem to have a main thread on this game, so I'll put it here. Some quotes from a preview....

More than any other revelation it's the sheer bloody size of ODST which should take you by surprise. For a year Bungie have touted it as an expansion - a little extra dose of Halo for the fans - but ODST is as big as Halo 3, as epic as Halo 3, and even better than the very best of Halo 3.

Four flashbacks and a lot of night-time wandering takes close to three hours to plough through on Heroic - the 'right' setting by Bungie's reckoning. It puts the game on track for a seven or eight hour campaign, all of which can be modified with Halo 3's skulls right from the start if regular Halo isn't vicious enough for you. It's neither an expansion nor a mission pack; ODST is a huge game. "It's big," says Curtis. "This is a full-size campaign; certainly nothing less than what we've done in the past."

"We wanted to make the experience of playing as an ODST feel different," says Curtis, "so you're definitely weaker and more vulnerable, but that means you have to change up the tactics you're used to using." Spartans are walking tanks but ODSTs have only a miniscule regenerating shield that will soak up three Carbine hits before the damage begins cutting into non-regenerating health. They're smaller, slower, and don't see nearly so well in the dark, but Bungie are throwing as many Hunters, Brutes, and Grunts at ODSTs as they'd normally throw at the Master Chief. "Why wouldn't we?" asks Curtis. "It's very easy as the Master Chief to run right into the middle of a big encounter but in ODST it's more tactical and you really have to plan your attacks; whether to engage enemies or to take a different path altogether."

"We tried really hard to think about what defines film noir. I think Marty (O'Donnell, Halo's Audio Director) did a fantastic job with completely new music which really nails that rainy, night-time, lonely vibe," says Curtis of the first Halo soundtrack to feature sleazy sax in place of chanting monks. "Marty's music has always played a huge part in the experience of a Halo game but I feel especially lucky to be the Lead Producer on this one because he really knocked it out of the park this time, with a completely different style of music. It was a ton of work on a really short timeline."

Alone in the city you'll face major set-pieces near every piece of evidence and dozens more Grunt and Brute patrols throughout the massive open world. "Typically, in a Halo game we know where you're coming from so we can set up an encounter and designate good fallback points for the AI, but in ODST we had to make sure we had groups of Covenant patrolling the city who could react from wherever you attack from and look intelligent doing it." Just as the game's engine was modified to cope with an open world, so the AI was modified to handle a trooper who can attack from any side and by any means. It looks and feels like Halo, but it's Halo with a brain - less Star Wars and more Blade Runner; less X-Men and more Dark Knight.

When the game is over, it's really only just beginning; on your second run every door is unlocked and the entire city is wide open. Each flashback can be selected and played in isolation, or tackled as part of the open world in any order you please. The city becomes a true sandbox with secret terminals to find and extra missions to tackle, and even some Mongooses to ride and new characters to unlock for the ten Firefight maps.

Weather you love or hate Halo games, MS has had a few good trailers were they mix in CGI and Motion Picture like sequences. But after seeing how cool these trailer's are, I wish MS would just do a halo movie and be done with it. Its not like Holloywood has been pushing great stuff on us :)

Hmm pretty interesting that ODST is taking a sandbox approach, but 8 hour campaign? That's pretty short.

You're new to this generation aren't you? There's nothing short about an 8 hour campaign for a shooter... at least not lately.

I'm comparing it to Halo 3, and the citings you have state "this is a full on campaign" when Halo 3 was like a 12 hour campaign. Just say it's a pretty big expansion. With that said it is a hefty one at that as it includes some new maps and MP modes also.

That's a dev stating it's the same length as Halo 3. I'd hope they know how long both their games are. :D

(FWIW I finished Halo 3 in about 7 hours)

No one buys Halo for the shit campaign story lines. Halo one had an ok story line. The presentation was well done, but the overall story sucked in my opinion. Halo Reach may be different though.

I bought them for the campaigns. I don't play online (other than co-op).

The only thing that interest's me in this game is the Horde type mode, other than that notta. I mean Halo 3 sucked ass imo, the game looked like shit compared to it's rivals and the enemies are to kiddy for my tastes, story is stupid and the multiplayer is a joke compared to modern warfare.

That's my opinion.

I'm pretty psyched for firefight mode. Anyone know how many people firefight is going to allow? I got a pretty steady group of 5 for GoW2 horde, so I hope it's at least 5 so we dont have to bench anyone.

Btw, that redvsblue trailer was completely stupid.

No offence intended... but the people who usually write things like this are kids themselves. I'm assuming you're not though.

Really? Most of the people that I play with in MW/WaW pretty much think the same and are around my age (I'm 32 actually;)) we have a few people that play on our clan that are Halo devotes but the oldest is like 14.

I just think the game gets way to much credit, yes it set the standard as far as matchmaking and competitive FPS online play on consoles go, but I would say MW set the bar much higher than Halo had originally placed.

After not being a console gamer since the snes, when I bought my 360 I finally played through the first halo to see what the fuss was about. Everyone talked about the incredible story and great production values, and I could never get past the muppet/ewok little bastards running around with their quote unquote funny dialogue and thought to myself, "wtf is this shit". I guess I could be considered a kid though at 31. Coming from pc gaming I just don't think I'll ever "get" halo.

I dunno if I'd compare it with modern warfare, since that came out half a decade later though :p

It was pretty smart to steal Horde mode, lol. I liked Horde, but hate MP Gears, so this is a good combo, I played Horde when Gears 2 irst came out, and said to myself "this would be fun if this wasn't GOW". Bungie has figured out a way to get ANOTHER 60 out of me and amazingly, play a FPS period, as I retired since SF4 and MVC2 lol.

Well yeah... the only people that generally care about things appearing "kiddy" tend to be kids themselves.

No. I love this trailer except for the 'kiddie' monster. I'm in my 40s. ODST monster reminds me of the rubber suit lizard from the original Star Trek. Otherwise the trailer rocks and a movie would be cool; wonderful mood, nice touches in battle damage, awesome music.

Then up pops microzilla. "Rawr." Barney cops 'tude.
