It's at 199.99 with 2 controllers a free game, the Bluray remote control included and ps1+ps2 backwards compatibility? cuz if not Sony can go suck it. They want to install a rootkit in your wallet.

I really don't get the whole No PS2 BC, no deal...PS2 games look better on a PS2 quite frankly and they are cheap as fuck :D Don't even start with PS1 games they look horrendous thru the PS3, or maybe it's just todays screens they look bad on....one thing is for sure you can scrap the lot for me.

Dunno about anyone else but I bought a PS3 to play PS3 games.
 
Exactly, I bought a PS3 to play PS3 games, Blu-Ray. I enjoy it more than my 360 for sure. It does everything I want it to.

I could care less about PS2 games cause I already have a PS2 to do those things.

imo if people say the ps3 has no good games, so does the 360 has many games are cross platform now. The fact i can play online for free is a bonus on the ps3. i have a 360 that has some good games on it but i am forced to pay some money just so i can game online.
 
it wont change anything... especially if/when the elite drops to 299.99.

Sony sat on their hands for too long and let M$ get too big of a jump on them. I REALLY dislike sony after the whole rootkit ordeal (among other bonehead moves), so call me biased, but sony isn't really offering anything that I cannot get elsewhere.

Honestly, If they (sony) had not gotten so arrogant in the past few years, I'd probably still be a huge fanboy. But they take their customers for granted and it shows in their sales numbers. It's sad too because I've owned 4 PS1's over my lifetime and 3 PS2's... I used to be a big xbox hater (hated the original controllers with a passion), but with the 360, they've turned me completely around.

The only thing that sucks is most of my close friends are sony fanatics so unless I sell out and go PS3, I can't play with any of them online. Oh well lol it's the summer anyway :) shouldn't be inside playing video games

One of the reasons I want a PS3. I loved Drake's Fortune. I am also looking forward to Bluray on my 61" Samsung 750. Yes, I am compensating for something. Its killing to hold out for the Slim, but I will be strong.
 
Where's the "better, but not enough to get ahead of the 360?" It's still at $300, whereas the 360 has something at the $200 price point. The US market is VERY price sensitive.

the arcade SKU sells less than the premium.
 
It'll do a little better @ 299, but the poll fails for not having an "I don't give a shit" option. The last option came close.

Dude I hate to bust your fanboy bubble but the 360 has no exclusive this year worth a shit besides Forza 3, and I play my 360 more than I do my PS3. But that's my opinion. If what is rumored to be true about GT5 hitting a few weeks before Christmas then the PS3 exclusives will be there in spades. And if the rumored God of War 1&2 combo release on 1 Blu-ray with a demo of God of War 3 on it ships before Christmas I will strip down naked and rub my PS3 all over my body with red jello.

You may not like L4D2 or Halo ODST... but you can't ignore them. That said, the exclusive release lineup for both consoles isn't great now until 2010.

l4d2 is hardlya worthy sequal. more like a expansion pack:D At the end of the day, no1 can say either system has no games because guess what fanboys, MOST games are multiplatform!! :eek::eek:

I said in my opinion, I can't stand Halo and I know I'm in the minority but L4D didn't do shit for me, It was like a zombie shooting gallery with 0 depth. The damage modeling should have been a 100 times better than it was, and the second looks exactly like an expansion pack and you can grab L4D2 on the PC so I wouldn't say that it was exclusive.....mind you:p
 
That's the point though isn't it... as soon as you bring the ever nebulous "opinion" into it, you start being able to say whatever you want. Wii has no games I'm interested in, 360 is a shooterbox in my opinion etc etc

Probably won't change much, but the price cut is great for those in the market for a PS3. I'll still wait for it to reach $199.

I think we will see a big jump in sales for one maybe two months were it outsells the xbox360 and maybe even the wii (since sales have been falling on that). However MS will not stand still and we still have Halo:ODST coming out that will move some consoles. It will be interesting to see what happens epically going into the end of the year were the sales usually jump for holidays..

I really don't understand why people think God of War 3 is going to save the PS3?? It's not a very popular game. During the PS2's peak both games only sold 2 million or so each. It's not anywhere near the same league as gran turismo, or metal gear solid. Nor is it a system seller.

Chances are if people want God of War 3 they already own the console. Gran Turismo will help, but again like Halo, people that want it probably already own the system and bought GT5P. ODST should be huge, like every other Halo game.
 
It's way too late in the game for the PS3 to catch up. the life cycle of this generation is at about 1/2 half. it would be very hard for me to spend $300 on a system that isn't going to last me too much longer, although as a blue ray player it is still nice.

Also many developers don't like working with it, which will fail to bring over more exclusive games.

I have been thinking about getting a PS3 since launch, and especially now that I have a HDTV I would like to give it some blu ray justice. but It's still just too much especially when the 360 as much as I hate to say it has better games...

1&2 have sold around 6 million and I never said it would save the PS3 but to say it's not very popular is a stupid statement. I don't think the Ps3 needs saving honestly, Sony needed to do 1 thing and that was lower the price and now they've done it. If I didn't have both systems and I walked into the store and seen an Elite and a slim Ps3 with Blu-ray with the same size hard drive and I knew the 360's were junk when it comes to hardware. You can bet your ass I would I would pick the PS3.

And Microsoft's cash cow Halo is soon to run dry when Bungie has completed the rest of their contract with them.

~2.5m each CD. They were never massively popular games... at least compared to others on the PS2. Those sales wouldn't even put them in the top 30 PS2 games.

Problem with them was that outside of the US, no-one cared about them. They did sell pretty well if you consider the US on its own though.
 
I have a Wii that I'm probably going to sell, and do not yet have a 360 or PS3. Now that FFXIII will be multi-platform, GTA already went multi-platform, and MGS is set to go multi-platform, that takes a big bite out of the PS3 exclusives club. On the other hand, 360 has quite a few exclusives. If MS didn't have such a horrible hardware failure rate, I bet they would be even further ahead this generation. For me, I'd buy a 360 but I refuse to do so until the hardware becomes reliable. I simply don't have money to throw away...

Okay I'm done posting in this thread, all the Xbot's said Sony wont drop the price and they wont sell it at $299, that they're going to sell it for a premium like the pspgo and blah, blah, blah. Now that they've did what you all complained about (lower the price)your all just moving along and trying to find something else that make's it inferior to the 360.

I like them both but for fuck's sake give it a rest, play the games and enjoy them. Stop wanting Sony to fail, cuz if they do where gonna be left with the the 360 and the Wii, and that my friends is gonna suck.

Sony doesn't have Halo or Gears or Forza.
Microsoft doesn't have Uncharted or God of War or GT.
Own them both and enjoy the exclusives from both.

What you say is wise. Competition is healthy. When there is good, healthy competition, we as gamers always win. Lack of competition leads to a stale "if we build it they will come" attitude.

I was waiting for this pricedrop to happen so that Sony would be more competitive. Now that they have, I (a huge 360 fanboy) have come to neutral ground and have purchased a PS3 slim. Well, i preordered it already and bought an extra controller. The To3, who posts here, is a coworker of mine who has already done the same. Fact is that if 2 of us who work two offices down from each other have bought a PS3 due to the pricedrop, there are many more in the same situation who will be doing the same. Thus raises competition.

I thought I'd never say this as I felt Sony was just too proud of their PS3, but I tip my hat to them for their pricedrop and have supported them with my hard earned money...

i think the ps3 will pick up steam in the US but in europe i still dont think its enough of a pricedrop, personally a £300 device being dropped £50 in the UK doesnt do much for me. Dont get me wrong, im buying a slim but not because of the pricedrop.

actually it was the CEO of Sony that said the PS3 wasn't going to get a price drop and he stated this this a few months ago
