They use mechanical switches just like the Das Keyboard, Majestouch Keyboards, IBM Model M, and RealForce Topre keyboard family. I own all those as well, but I bit the bullet and got myself the HHKB Professional 2 and it was worth it. I also have the HHKB Lite 2 which can be had for 50-80usd and those are good membrane keyboards.

While everyone is on the topic of Happy Hacking Keyboards and other mechanicals...here's my new setup, complete with a Realforce 101 and HHKB Pro 2.

And of course, the keyboard closet. (pic was taken a while ago, thus the HHKB is in it.)

After following this thread since I joined [H], I finally upgraded my desk setup with a trip to Ikea.
I went with the Galant Corner, left, top with the silver T legs, Summera CPU holder and keyboard tray.
SO, ~$250 later, I went from this:

To this:

Copious use of zup ties underneath keeps the cable clutter to a minimum, plus I have 2 USB hubs tied up underneath as well. You can see a few of the wires from the font one for the laptop on the right hand side. They are actually not as visible as the picture makes them seem.

looks like someone ripped ass all over your carpet :(

ROFL. No, that's where my head was when I was running cables along the bottom of the desk, and the carpet is pushed in the opposite direction after I had vacuumed.

But yea, looks weird...

Lol nice wallpaper of Mariya and Mio. Too bad Maria is a trap...

So you didn't rip ass on the carpet way in the corner but there is strange looking stains on the carpet, possibly hair dye got bored and slid off onto the carpet?:confused:

these HHKB are not cheap. :/ has anyone used one of the deck ones?

I have one, I only use it for Stepmania though. It's a really nice keyboard, but there are better built/designed keyboards out there. I find them ugly.

The daskeyboard IMO is a pretty good looking keyboard, while the HHKB looks quite ugly. That is unless it has black keys, and a black bezel then it would be quite nice.

HHKB's are normally full black or full white, mines is two-tone cause I bought a set of black keys for my white version.

the das looks really nice with the gloss but i read it has a error with the keys when u type 120wpm.

I bought a Das. I love it, and had not had any troubles with 120+ wpm errors as far as I can tell, although I may have encountered the issue and assumed it was my fingers rather than the keyboard. I wish it was not glossy. It's so hard to keep clean. I think I may sell this keyboard and try out the HHKB after reading more into it.

Has anybody tried any other keyboards with nice keyswitches? I was originally looking towards the ABS M1 but they were all gone when I went to buy it and didn't have any in stock until the day after I bought the Das :X

I currently own:
HHKB Pro 2
Scorpius M10
Filco FKBN87MC/EB
Filco FKB104M/EB
Compaq MX11800
ABS M1
Dell AT101W "clicky" black Alps (modded)
Lexmark Model M 82G2383
IBM Model M 1391401
Unicomp Model M4
Focus FK-2001
Sejin EAT-1010

In terms of switches, thats Cherry blue/brown, Alps white/black, buckling springs, "buckling rubber sleeves", futaba, and Topre capacitive. If you have any questions about those, send me a PM so we don't derail this thread TOO much lol.

Fact: A Before & After post, consists of two pictures with the camera in the same spot, with the same zoom, and angle.
I do not see this in your post.

Fact: Attempting to look like a bada** on the internet and failing miserably makes you that much more of a loser.

Nice setup slo.

Lol he took a picture before he put his desktop there and then shot one after he put his desktop there. So, isnt that Before and After?

Exactly, I mean, come on guys, ever heard of a tripod? Take the picture and move everything around while leaving the tripod in place. Not so hard really!!!:p:rolleyes:

Fact: You fail so hard. So damn hard. Epic epic epic fail. If it's an attempt at the funneh, even more so.

I had the Ikea keyboard tray and I'm not a big fan of it. It's not wide enough to fit a decent sized keyboard along with a mouse, so I abandoned that idea after a few days.
I'm also curious, doesn't having a tower on top of the desk bother you guys? My computer is much louder when it's not under my desk, and that's with 800rpm slipstream fans only. That, and it takes up unnecessary space.

I did some wire management. And no, I didn't clean up the desk for the pics. :)

The chair is crap, I'm buying a much better one later this week..

I got the keyboard tray because I cannot use a keyboard on my desk. I just hate it. And while not having a mouse area on it is annoying, it's much less so for me than the keyboard on the desk.
I, personally (see my post, above) switched from having it up above to down below. I had it up above because I was doing upgrades, cable management etc, but now that my rig has pretty much cemented its specs, I have no need to access it. The noise is not an issue, and my temps did not change.
And yes, I am happy with the reclaimed deskspace.
