Am looking for some overclocking tools for my new Toshiba laptop. Am looking to overclock the cpu via software if possible. Please post links if you got em!

I don't think you can overclock notebooks. It's a bad idea anyways because the coolers on them are only designed to take so much heat. You could probably overclock the video card, though.

There are some folks over at forum.notebookreview.com that have upgraded their Core Duo laptops to Core 2 Duo as well as overclocked a Core Duo by doing pin mod to run the FSB at 667Mhz on a normal 533Mhz bus chip. This was done in hardware. Wondering if anyone has successfully overclocked their system with something like clockgen?

Even if you could overclock a laptop I wouldn't reccomend it.

Well after looking around with google I found that some folks were able to use clockgen to overclock the ATI 200m chipset on this Toshiba Satellite A135-S2386. I downloaded Clockgen and set the PLL to ICS 951416. I then started overclocking in 10Mhz increments and got to the final 13x188=~2450Mhz on this laptop. Super pi went from ~48sec to ~36sec.

nice going. can you provide more details on the specs of the system and where you came from? I'm not too familiar with that chipset, but recall ati's driving pci/pcie independently of fsb. Hope it's the case, depending on where you're coming from. Judging by the gains you saw in spi, I'm guessing 133fsb, in which case, I'm assuming pci/pcie aren't going up as well, since there's no way in hell pci/pcie could float that much. nice!

In clockgen there are two slider bars, one that controls fsb, and one that controls pci and pcie. The laptop I have has a t2080 1MB cache installed in it that runs at 13x133mhz bus. I have also ran Orthos on it now for over 4 hours and not one issue. The temperature runs about 56c full load, and at this temp the fan is either off or on a low setting (its quiet). I just got this a week and a half ago from one of BestBuys sales for $500. After adding 2GB Kingston pc4300 ram and overclocking its now quite fast! I have read of others installing C2D in this system.. wonder how much improvement there would be (and with OC)?

nice going! perhaps you can try rmclock too and see if you can drop voltage any. may not happen with the full overclock, unless it's currently ram or motherboard limited.

good way to find out is to limit cpu multiplier and see if you can go higher in fsb

Its been over 2 years since performing this overclock and the laptop is still going strong!

My 1000he is running at 2.1 ghz just by upping the FSB and installing different RAM. Oddly enough, my idle temperatures are LOWER than they were before. Loads are about 4c higher though. Runs strong, no stability issues.

Thanks for reporting back in though, talk about necromancy!

As far as performance difference...I don't notice any (the only intensive thing I do is WoW, and that's limited by the GMA950), but whatever. Superpi ran a little faster...that counts, right?
