Can anyone recommend a good case for the ipod touch 2g. I don't know if I want a silicon case, they are usually kinda sticky and get covered with lint in my pocket. I was thinking about getting a invisible shield and covering that with a hard plastic case for extra fall protection

Thats what I did. I got myself an IS and bought the red and black silicone case. I was worried about lint, but really I dont get that much at all. I was also looking at the Wave Case. But an iPod Touch with an IS can't fit into one of those, plus those tend to scratch the back of the iPod. Overall I'm pretty happy with my choice of case combo. Silicon isn't incredibly sticky, but it does have a nice grip to it. Try it out if you can at a local store that lets you return items.

I put a BSE(Best Skins Ever) full body shield on mine and bought the Belkin Grip Tight Groove. They are tight fitting hard silicone cases. I highly recommend them! I got two in the pack, white and black for $20 at Walmart.

I use the Speck Fitted Case on my Ipod 2G. It is rubber on the inside, and fabri on the outside, so it doesn't scratch the Ipod, but is still easy to pull out of my pocket. Snaps together nicely, and I love the plaid pattern on the back. Protects well against small drops, although I am pretty kind to my stuff. It does gather a little bit of dust under the top edges, but not enough to be too much of a bother. I paid 20-25 (can't remember at Target), but you might be able to do better online/ebay.

I have been using an customized iPod case made from a cashmere silicone. It includes a screen protector, microfiber cleaning cloth and matching earcaps. That’s the best one I got for my iPod.

I'm using the Switcheasy Rebel case and I really like it. It's part silicon and part hard plastic.

Just got a 3G touch which apparenlty's ever so slightly fatter, but should work w/ the 2G cases. Here's my list compiled mostly from ilounge's favorites.

DLO Softshell
Case-Mate Vroom
Griffin Wave
Marware SportGrip
PDO TopSkin
Speck CandyShell
SwitchEasy RebelTouch
Uniea U-Suit Premium
Griffin Elan Form Hard Shell Leather
Case-Mate Signature Series
Speck Fitted Hip Fabrics

So who's got what and likes what?

I'm using the red/black Belkin silicone sleeve/case as well (comes in solid colors too and it's cheaper if you find the two-pack someone mentioned above)... After about a year and a half of use the sides are a lil' more flexible/bendy than they were originally (they flip out a bit if you tug on the edge), but other than that it's no worse for wear and has never collected any excessive amount of lint in my jean pockets.

I'm not using any sort of skin, haven't felt it was necessary either. Originally I was gonna go completely naked with it but A) it felt slippery in my and B) the metal back already had one or two scratches (it was definitely gonna get scuffed to hell w/o a case) and C) it slid around too much in my pocket. The Belkin case does make it trickier to slip out when I have pants w/smaller pockets or if the pants themselves are more fitted, but that beats having the iPod slide sideways inside the pocket of my jeans.

FWIW I think the solid-color versions are a lil' stiffer and might hold up better over time. The one my sister is using certainly seems that way anyway, mine is slightly older tho. Edit: Oh yeah, and the raised nubs for the volume/sleep buttons actually makes it much easier to press those buttons imo ('specially the volume rocker). I should also mention that I've dropped it a few times (from up to three feet I guess) and it's absorbed the hits rather well. It's taken it's biggest falls while inside this Lowepro Tasca 20 neoprene baggy tho... Combined with the silicone sleeve you could probably throw it 5 feet in the air and it'd take the hit. I put it inside that when I'm tossing it in my book bag or travel bag, or when I leave it in the car.

I have the Incase Slider on my iPhone 3G and I love it. It doesn't add much size to the device and the bottom comes off easily for docking. It's got a rounded hole in the bottom so Apple-style rounded data cables will fit through it, but some of the bigger square generic cables won't. The finish adds a bit of grip, without giving it the stickiness of a regular silicone case. It also gives the whole thing a nice subtle look.

I've also got the Power Support Anti Glare Film. If you do a good job putting it on, you can't even tell it's not the factory surface. However, the Anti Glare changes the feel of the surface. It's more like a laptop's touchpad surface than a glass window. I think it has a much better feel than the plain glass or their Crystal Film - your finger just glides over it. I also obviously prefer matte finishes on displays over the high-gloss versions, which is basically what the Anti Glare Film gives your device.

Get an invisible shield and a silicon case, thats what I have done with my Classic and and there is not a scratch anywhere on it, not to mention if you dont feel like carry it with the case on you can be sure that there will not be a scratch anywhere on the device. Even if you put it the same pocket as your keys which I must admit I do, do quite often.

How hard was it to put on? Any tips? Does the film tend to get less gunked up than the screen does by itself? I ask because while I usually see tons of people debating the merits of various skins, my sister gave me that one you just mentioned specifically as a gift months ago and I haven't even bothered to open the package...

My screen does tend to get oily and it seems to attract a lot of dirt/dust tho, it seems to accumulate along the borders of my Belkin wave silicone case, if the film helps even a lil' bit with that I might bother to put it on... I could care less for the anti-glare properties (I'm ambivalent towards it, I rarely have trouble seeing the screen).

The power support films are great because it does not attract finger prints or anything like that. I had one on my touch when I had one and I must admit it was great, I completely forgot about them. The great thing is that (idk if they still do this) they come with a proctector for the back metal side of the iPod to prevent scratches back there.

I went w/ the Griffin Wave. BB had it for apparently 1/2 off. It came w/ 2 cases and 2 screen protectors. The feel's almost a softer hard surface, it fits snug, and looks great.

I also checked out the DLO softshell, but the sides picked up glare terribly. And the bottom piece along the thumb button felt flimsy, almost like it would eventually snap.

Although, I have to wonder how much protection your getting vs a cushy leather case when it comes to a fall. That's my biggest fear and it seems to me the hard case wouldn't really help there.

On the iPhone, I hold the film by the sides and squeeze it a bit so the middle bows downward. I line up the speaker hole and the Home button, so I'm sticking down a vertical line in the center first. I then lower/release the edges, so it applies from the center toward the sides. (For the Touch, you might want to use the Home button and bottom edge for lining up at the beginning and then work your way to the top of the screen.) You can put a little water on the screen to get a good even seal, just make sure you work it all out to edges and dry it up as it comes out from under the film (sort of like window tinting). My friend has the Slider also, and said that he was able to just drop it in the middle and the case centered it for him. I didn't have very good luck that way. I've done it a few times on my own iPhones and for at least one other person. Sometimes it seems to be perfect the first time, others it seems to be just a little off each time. The more I mess with it, the harder it seems to get. If you're really a perfectionist, it could take you an hour. If you don't mind as long as it's pretty good, it can be done fairly quickly.

Make sure you're doing it in as clean an environment as possible. It comes with a sticky cleaner sheet, but it's easy for dust and little hairs/fuzz to get between the film and screen while you're working on it. I also clean the surface with one of those little eyeglass cleaning kits. One tip I got back in the days of adding lights to Game Boy Advance screens is to run the shower in your bathroom and let it get all steamy, then let the room cool down. The steam collects on the dust in the air, causing it to settle. Poor man's clean room. =)

Other people in my department who have iPhones have commented that my screen looks hazy or blurry. I personally prefer it over the super-glossy, but you might not like it. As for the cleanliness of it, I think it's pretty close to the fancy new screen on the 3GS. It's a different feel to it, but I generally don't do any more than breathing on it and wiping it on my shirt (like you would with glasses). I don't end up with those greasy smudges that I see all over other people's screens.

Silicone cases definitely help w/that imo.

Yeah, the material on the wave looked siliconish at first, but it's def a hard case. The dlo had an interesting texture. It didn't feel like silicon, but had a little cushioning. I'm sort of tempted to go down to the apple store and see if they have any nice cushy cases. Especially now that I've spent $15 in games for this thing when before i hadn't even cared about apps.

Ot: real racing IS the portable gran turismo I've been looking for.

My favorite brand is iSkin, I never buy anything else, check them out. I think its just iskin.com

Ok, so I've tried a few more now. Wal Mart had one by Case Mate. It's called their Leather Signature. It came w/ screen protection as well, but it SCRATCHED the back of my iPod! Very sad. :( The front protection also extended out to far and made typing inconvenient.

So I tried another case by DLO called the Soft Shell or Hybrid Shell? It cost about $22 from Best Buy and had a slippery feel to it. Def no scratching going on here. However, the bottom part did scratch against my thumb while holding it...enough to be uncomfortable. Also the material itself felt a little sticky after awhile.

I originally took the wave back because the hole on the bottom wasn't large enough for most headphone jacks and had to be removed. That and the case was hard so it might not have had as much protection from a fall as a leather or the DLO case.

I no longer have my iPod, but if I did, I would have gone back to get the Griffen Wave case. It was about $17 from Best Buy, came w/ 2 screen protectors, 2 cases, and by FAR had the very best feel to the case. The texture was amazing. The case did not get in the way and also insulated against the heat better than the leather and the thicker DLO case. A simple dremel to the case to widen the hole would have fixed the only real issue. Unless of course the case was responsible for scratching the iPod instead of the leather one and I didn't realize it. :D
