I know some of these were available for a while if you knew how to do it, but you can get on L4D and custom maps are now downloadable! The replay value just went through the roof for me! Anyone else try some of them yet?

I'd recommend death abroad, dam it, and mortuary. All pretty good campaigns.

i need to reinstall L4D. i played the hell out of it for about a month and then lost interest, but this should bring it back to life. i had some good times with this game.

death aboard and power station are both very fun.

power station has a ton of traps in it, your first run though you become very paranoid, all i can say is expect to restart a level a few times till you figure all the traps out lol.

Also the new l4d interface for finding games is awsome. Instead of randomly selecting a map and hoping for a lobby or a game it shows you every single game that is being played at once (including all user created maps) and lets you pick, way easier.

soem ok campaigns out but very disappointed with the lack of finished campaigns only a hand ful are out and playable. lots of crappy survival maps though.

awesome, this might make the 50 bucks worth it, i got to say, the first week was LOADS of fun..

This, mixed with the L4D2 hate, is going to make their sequel bomb unless they add some significant content to it.

Might fire this up again tonight and see if theres enough custom servers to get in a game with new maps, would be cool.

where is a good place to get these maps?

and how are they installed/played?

dead aboard is a pretty nice map, the part on the ship is done very well with the odd angles n stuff

wait...do these auto-download now like in hl2dm? or is this just a only marginally better solution to the previously horse shit hack method of using custom maps?

Only thing I want to know is , when is Dead before Dawn coming out. and the Raccoon City map.

I've played many of the addon campaigns, so here's my breakdown.

I would recommend, Death Aboard (slick), 7 Hours Later (similar to Blood Harvest), Dam it! (difficult but nice map design), Heaven Can Wait (good but always laggy) and Power Station (trap laden). I would say Death Aboard and 7 Hours are my two favourites so far, nicely paced and professionally made.

Dead City seems buggy, one bug with the old version caused endless zombie respawning and instant death on the train tracks. As for the new version the sound is completely messed up. Half the time I can't hear the special infected approaching. Long campaign though

Back to School is decent but a little unpolished, lacks direction and is buggy too.

Not that keen on Raccoon City PD either, probably just me as joined the game late and got lost.

Night Terror is unplayable as so difficult so wouldn't recommend that either.

A mixed bag really but loads of fun trying the add on campaigns and really adds to the games longevity as I'm not that enamoured with Survival (never win is depressing) and Versus (always ruined by players leaving all the time)

Some maps/campaigns have a executable type file that automatically installs the files and then all you do is launch L4D and you're ready to go.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the file type is .vpk (and pretty much all are) you can just double click and it will install it for you. "Dam it" is my favorite map so far. Very long and no loads, well designed as well.

The new DeadCity v7.0 is out at l4dmaps.com. and the campaign is finished. One of the good campaigns.

Yes .vpk is a self installer

Yeah, I have Version 7 but the sound will go really silent on me all the time. I think it has something to do with the add on music/sounds. I agree it is one of the better campaigns but the sound issues ruin it for me

Can anyone recommend any other add on campaigns other that the ones I have mentioned in my previous post?

When you said 7 Days Later, did you mean 7 Hours Later?

I can only find 7 Hours Later.

Lol, that's what I meant. I'll amend my post. I'm thinking of all the zombie movies hence the mistake

Anyone have a working download for 7 Hours Later? All the mirrors I'm finding for it are broken.

Yea the sound does that for all of us that I play with also.

I downloaded a few...gonna play them soon. Look good.

BTW, where is the [H] L4D group? I need competent players!

Played Heaven Can Wait last night and it was great playing with good players. Didn't lag much either (just one section). The Woods segment is difficult (bonkers zombie rush that lasts about 3 minutes, followed by a Tank), very nicely done campaign and a long one too.

Also had another go on Dam it!, nicely designed but very short. Can be completed in 20 minutes

Night Terror is a great one for co-op. It has so many great horror movie references. The Haunted Mansion from Disney is fantastic...I loved that you could actually ride the ride at one point like you do there. The ghosts in the ball room are there as well as that first room with the wacky drawings lol. The Evil Dead cabin and car are there that was great! Overall I enjoyed playing it but only have done so a couple of times...it was pretty hard.

Death Aboard is my favorite map although I am not sure I prefer version 7 (final) over version 6.1. I play that map all the time.

I have my own server and have made the followng mods that make versus a lot more enjoyable:

survivors can crawl when incapped
hunters can unpounce and then re-pounce
hunter max pounce increased to 50 but distance required for 50 is proportional to 2x distance for original 25...max I have gotten is 35 on any map - I am not sure that there is anywhere to get enough linear distance to get 50
smokers can release the tongue (at which point they still stand there for a short period just like if a survivor had broken the tongue)
smokers tongue length increased from 800 to 1500

I'll have to give Night Terror another chance, you make it sound good.

When I played it, it was with just one other person and he left halfway through as we were getting battered. No fun

I like running survivor upgrades as well, give player sthign like laser sights, increased clip sizes, increased bullet damag as upgrades when you kill the tank/witch

I need to figure out how to add survivor upgrades...what mods do that for you? I only run sourcemod at the moment which lets me tweak sv_cvars without enabling sv_cheats.
