Can anyone recommend me a Power supply that is whisper quiet (or close) and powers a core i7 /12gb machine with mulitple drives :D

Thanx

The Corsair line of PSU are very quiet. Corsair 650TX, 750TX. Also, Antec Earthwatts EA650 is quiet. Also, consider Coolermaster RS-600 and RS-700 modular PSU. They are pretty quiet with 135mm fan.

Corsair HX750/HX850, Seasonic M12D 750W/850W, Antec Truepower New 750W, or Enermax Revolution85+ 850W/950W/1050W/Galaxy EVO 1250W.

Check out SilentPCReview for quiet PSU reviews. Some Corsairs are apparently quieter than others. Some of the larger PSUs are actually pretty quiet.

What video card(s) will you be using?

4850 passive from gigabyte is pretty good.
as for the psu, i just swapped in 1000 rpm scythe? fan

Thank you I will try this.

System is a

Core i7 920
Asus P6T6 WS Rev
1x Vraptor
1x 500 gb sata
1x ati 4850
1x blu ray
The Nightjar is probably enough, but you'd be cutting it a bit close. I recommend that you aim for a PSU with a higher capacity like the Corsair HX850 or one of the Enermax Revolution85+ units, since at the loads you'll be putting on them the fan will barely have to spin. You'll be getting nearly complete silence (it should be inaudible compared to the noise of the rest of your system) while still having a decent amount of headroom for future upgrades.

Since you have an i7 i assume its not a htpc or server of any sort, in which case I wouldnt reccomend something as little as 450 watts. As Zero said, its really close. Seems like youd want to get something a little beefier to give yourself some headroom for upgrades, graphics processing hasnt stopped the increase in power consumption for just about every new line nvidia/ati puts out.

Yeah, I agree with the above 2 statements. I have a corsair 850 powering one of my systems and I literally have to be right up against it in order to hear anything.

Actually a system configured like the one Jasonx82 listed will draw around 300W from the power supply (DC) at max load and around 130W at idle. We had a system similar to his powered by the Nightjar ST45NF PSU on video here:

I gotta agree with Zero, while it's nice to see it powers a system like that fine, for the price you could even get a 850W Silverstone PSU, no less any of the other PSU makers of choice. And you will be putting less stress on the unit and will be giving yourself upgrade room for things to come or other drives etc. I went that way myself (DA800) on a system that pulls nothing close to 800W, and it's very quiet, fan doesn't even seem to spin half the time, the HDD's are much louder than anything else.

any of corsair's HX series will serve you well. the fan is quieter than any other fan or pump because it runs at such low RMP as long as you don't load the PSU more than 80%

The fan on the HX1000 isn't supposed to not spin. If it doesn't spin, then there's something wrong with your unit.

the CORSAIR TX's are pretty good as well. I have the 750TX Corsair and it powers my core i7, 280gtx, liquid cooling system along with the rest of my computer parts.

Installed. Complete Silence (obviously) Worked out great

Thanx all!! :D:D
