Looking to increase system performance: another HDD vs an SSD

The only modern drive in my system is a 1.5TB Seagate.

For the most part, I'm just looking for improved system responsiveness, faster load times, etc..

I could buy another 1.5TB Seagate and pair them in a RAID array, or I could get an SSD.

From what I've gathered, OCZ's Vertex series is a solid choice. I'd probably get the 60GB model on sale at Micro Center for $179.99.

And now a general question about RAID: will I have 3TB of effective storage when the drives are striped?

SSD will be much better. I'm glad I made the switch.

You don't want to raid 0 two 1.5 drives.

Double the chance of a failure for both drives and a whole lot of data at stake... 3tb's of it.

Thanks for the info. SSS it is then.

Is a 60GB OCZ Vertex a good choice?

Or I could get 2 30GB Vertex drives.

i think the intel and kingston x25-m are still the favorite, followed by the vertex from what ive seen

Vertex's are awesome drives. I have 4 of them and they're blazingly fast and smoke any combination of Velociraptor I used to have.

2 30GBs will indeed be faster than a single 60. I would only R0 2 SSDs if you own a decent intel onboard ctrlr or 3rd party.
