I have another 920 coming from intel retail edge, and I intended on selling it with the Vista Ultimate disc. They're supposedly all d0's.

I currently have a C0/C1, and I can run it at 4.2 ghz with a .15-.2 voltage increase.

Is it worth the time and money loss to put the D0 in my machine and sell the C0 as used as opposed to new?

It does 4.2. That seems to be the average for a good OC on air for the 920s. Unless you think that's too slow -- in which case, sell all your stuff and buy a dual socket board, because, really -- leave it alone.

I'm just wondering if the D0's lack of heat output would even be worth noting in cooling down my room.

ONLY because you wouldn't be able to sell your old proc for as much (Used vs New), I would say leave it as is. Otherwise I would say swap it for sure.

ahh nice. I was under the impression that the D0 ran cooler.
It's very hit or miss. As far as I've seen, D0 chips have not been consistently better than C0s. Your CPU looks like a pretty good chip, so I wouldn't think it's worth the risk to see if you might get a better overclock or a lower voltage out of the D0 chip.

not if you are getting 4.2 for sure, thats a good one, and the D0 might not be.

I would keep the C0 since its all ready installed in your machine and you have got it to a nice overclock. There is no guarantee that the D0 will hit the same or better overclock. A brand new D0 can be sold for somewhere around $200 - 250 in the FS/ FT thread (maybe more on eBay), whereas a used C0 is probably only going to get you $150-200 tops.

swap it out for a handpicked batch 38XX Chip
What do you mean handpicked batch, my i7 D0 is a 3849A899 and I was able to hit 4.0Ghz with 1.3vcore (1.27~1.29ish under load in windows)

I haven't really tried for more though, "yet".

Well I don't know why you would pick "38XX" since the year has barely anything to do with it but I've looked pretty hard and found that week 45's and week 49's of 2008 seem to be slightly better. B batches also tend to be more consistent. I was lucky enough to get a 3849B018 but the 3845B027's hold the current records with 5.2GHz and beyond.

So as long as you can atleast pick that you're getting a D0 B-batch, you'll be pretty close to as good as it gets.
