Prolimatech Megahalems LGA 775 and LGA 1366 Cooler @ [H]

thanks anyway, i found another board that actually was a bit more useful with specific feedback

Since no one is willing to help, I will help. You cannot purchase directly from Prolimatech unless you want to pay some crazy shipping price from Taiwan (China for those who don't know), that is why the price is not listed on the website.

As for where to purchase this nice heatsink. Prolimatech has a listing of all their vendor in the US.

http://www.prolimatech.com/wtb.html << all of their (6) vendors .
The price from one vendor to the next is like +/-$8 so it is really up to you. If they are sold out very fast so you can also find it on Ebay, it is about the same price but cheaper. The shipping is pretty fast, I got mine in 2 days. I message the guy directly because I wanted some extra fan clips for an additional fan, and he gave me a way better deal because I help him skip the Ebay fee. Good luck on your search.

I got one from Frozen CPU. The total with 2 quality PWM fans, with sheathed tails, and extra clips was $101.90. Then adding $26.10 for 3 day shipping brought the total up to $128. Kinda pricey if you ask me!

Then just a few days later, the morning this shipment was scheduled to arrive, I found them on sale on the Heatsink Factory for ~$15 less. So while the fans selection between the two sites is different. I think I'd just as soon keep that little bit of extra cash. But that's my 2¢ worth!

I was deciding on this or the TRUE. Anyone know if it will fit on a P6T Deluxe v2 with all 6 RAM slot filled?

It will fit, as long as the RAMs don't have the extra RAM heatsink height added to them. There is a nice clearance between the top of the RAM and the fan clip if you decide to have it east-west orientation.

On the other hand, I cannot get the Megahalems to sit at the orientation where the air blows to the top of the case on my EVGA E758 X58 board. The MOSFET heatsink is in the way. I can only orient it at the east-west where the air blows to the back of the case. This is just a caution for those who are considering to get this motherboard and the Megahalems.

They have them at Microcenter for 69. I attached a Yate-Loon to mine. This heatsink is a beast!

Got it first hand, Fits Blackops no clearance issues, cannot fit included NB fan though, ram slots all useable

This cooler is simply amazing. On an asus rampage 2 extreme, I'm able to strap on a 240cfm delta and get 4.5GHz on my i7 920 without going above 85C. This might seem hot for some people but my pentium D runs 5C over tj max and the 920 has a tj max of 100C.

The fact that the towers resemble Optimus Prime's face is definitely a plus as well!!

A 240 CFM fan on a megahalem...

1. How loud is that? Does the air create any turbulence?
2. That thing doesn't rip the cooler off your motherboard? (Kidding...)

1. Couldn't give you exact decibels but I'd say between a jet taking off and a vacuum cleaner :D

2. Not yet haha

-.- was a joint effort, and dont go claiming my processor as yours... you have your own. But yeah idling at ~45 on core0 and 40 on the other 3 at 3.8ghz atm. And my fans are turned down quite a bit, as others in the house are sleeping. And yeah, if all my fans are turned to max, my system booting up pretty much sounds like a jet engine.

Wtf put it back at 4.2 atleast. Wuss. 4.5 was rock solid, just distribute earplugs.

Anyone want to recommend me a good fan for this? I was considering getting a Yate Loon D12SH-124UB or maybe the medium version (have M's all around me case).

Yate Loon Highs if you have a fan controller. Mediums if you don't.

I love this cooler. Kick ass mounting system. WOO!

Is the Megahelms > TRUE? Cos I can find TRUE for about $10-20 less.

Does the Megahalems come with free thermal paste? Is this thermal compound ~ as good as Arctic Silver 5?

Does it come with 120mm fan retention clips? Are there enough to mount 2 120mm fans?

Will it block the 1st memory slot on my ASUS P6T Deluxe v2 mobo?

It is

Comes with thermal paste and it's pretty good - comparable to AS5

Comes with one 120mmx25mm clip. Will need to buy extra clips for 2 fans. They also sell 35mm clips

the Mega costs $60, comes with tim, excellent mounting bracket, 1 set of fan clips, no fan & is HUGE & it's fins are lower to the mobo than True. It will block the 1st ram slot on most any mobo with fan installed, so will the True. With the True if you can remove the cooling fins from your ram & you can bend the bottom True fins up a little to get it to sit over top of your ram (if u mount True pointed to top of case) Mega is to low to do that. Both will fit pointed to rear of case if u use fan in a pull config w/o blocking ram slots, but that is far less efficient for cooling. Mega base is better than True but still not flat, only Noctua came with a perfect machined base. All of these coolers have problems with size & ram slots that's why I got the True Spirit from Cogage $40 base was better than True, similar to Mega, the fin design is same as the True, but 4 heatpipes instead of 6 so the fins look the same but are not as wide as True fins. Spirit will fit on mobo w/o blocking ram slots w a120mm x 38mm fan when pointed to rear. You will Sacrifice some cooling performance, it's similar to Noctua, due to smaller size but at stock it outperforms the big coolers, & can handle small OC settings. If you OC heavy go with Mega or True just use less ram cause 1st ram slot will be covered.

I just ordered one of these tonight. I was gonna give up finding one from a reputable vendor for about 60 USD until I read this thread and went with heatsinkfactory.com .

What really convinced me was watching a Youtube video with someone with my motherboard and showed it can fit with no problems even with the fan on.

Perhaps I missed the details...but was the Processor or TRUE/MEGA lapped?

The TRUE didn't do too well before lapping and didn't do that great after lapping but did wonderful after lapping both TRUE and CPU.

Frozencpu, or performancepcs, & newegg are great Etailers. Check them out for goodies

What fans have you guys been using this this cooler? Im thinking of getting the Nexus real silent fan that SPCR uses.

I'm using a Panaflow 120x38mm low speed on a fan controller. Much higher static pressure than most 'silent' fans and very quiet on a controller.

Just picked up a Mega today from MC and WOW!! I love it so far, the best thing I really love about it is the mount system, far superior to the TRUE mount system. What I dislike about it the most is the fact that it only comes with 1 120mmx25mm clip should have been two or 1 25mm and 1 38mm for options.

Just installed my megahalem with a push-pull setup

Switched from HDT-1283, dropped temps from 77c load to 64c

:) - 3.6Ghz stock volts

Alright, I finally got my Megahalem installed and this thing is a beast! 4ghz idling around 40c. Linpack stable, max temp of 76c. I think I'll try to push my machine to 4.2 ghz tomorrow but this was enough work installing the heatsink for me tonight!

After having cheaper Scythe Mugen 2 and comparing to the Megahalem there is no contest. Spend the extra money and buy the Megahalem! The mounting system is like 10x better and easier to use than the Scythe's and the temps are a LOT better because of the excellent security/snug mounting system. I've got 2x Enermax Clusters on it in a push/pull conifg. It looks great and the noise level is tolerable. I'll post pics tomorrow, too tired now.

Here is a quick run with my Mega and Kaze 3000 @1800RM in a Pull only setup on my [email protected] :D Still tweaking voltages. Case is a crap V9, and yes I mean crap!! Had to pull both 23CM fans from case, door won't close with the Mega and the top mounted fan well that was a problem with the Kaze at 3000RPM blowing air up it would cause the Thermaltake 23CM fan to rub against the top mesh

Ouch the positioning looks really AWKWARD there for your Megahalem. Are you able to mount a fan on it, cos I don't see anything except for the top exhaust cooling it.
Oh, nm, that black fan, is the one you mounted on the heatsink? LOL. Dang that looks too SNUG for comfort!

Also, why is your CPU throttled down to 2.4ghz? Was that on purpose?

Methinks you need a BIGGER CASE. Losing 2x230mm fans is going to negatively affect your overall case cooling. And the Megahalem, as good as it is, will have a hard time compensating for that.
I really need to post my mounting pics tomorrow. You'll see a big difference.

Speedstep ;) That fan your looking at is the Kaze 3000 attached to the Mega the 23cm case fan was removed.

Here is another screen CPU under load..

Wow those temps are nice! I'm surprised you're getting those temps at 4.2 with BOTH top and side exhaust fans removed! Perhaps N/S orientation is more effective for Megahalems cooling? That's Linpack stable?

Anyways some pictures as promised.

Yeah you can also see my shiny new 5870 inside there. :)

Nice board  and case with that case you should be able to do some awesome cable management. I have it 8Hr P95 stable @4.2 w1.3v and @4GHz w/1.275 stable I haven't tried anything between on the voltages. Also LinX All Mem 20 Pass Stable just didn't take a screen shot. I will hopefully try and rerun the test by this weekend.

The end!

P.S.
I like the shinny 5870 I'm still contemplating.....
