Well, in a few weeks i'll finally get my new rig up, this will be my 1st time to install a new OS (windows 7 64bit RC). 1st hardware/tech refresh.

now I went over to thet ATi/AMD site to start downloading drivers for my stuff, until i got to the part where I need to download drivers for my last piece of legacy hardware. my Remote Wonder II, lo and behold, there are no drivers for it. The latest driver I found in their site is for Windows XP Home/PRO 32 bit.

What should I do? :(

all ideas welcome. :)

Windows 7 *may* have a built in driver for.... but don't hold your breath...

Buy a new Remote and IR receiver, that is what I am doing.

It worked on Vista 32-bit with the XP drivers and probably works on Win7 32-bit using the same drivers. ATI never made a 64-bit driver, so that left our XP x64 too.

You can get a MS MCE remote off ebay for $10 shipped and an IR receiver (or IR module + cable if your motherboard has a header for IrDA) for a few bucks more.

It's trivial to build an IR receiver if your motherboard has an infrared header on it. You need 3 parts to build a receiver: this http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049727 and 10 microF + 100 microF capacitors connected between the power and ground pins. If you have heatshrink tubing you can assemble it without a circuit board. Of course you need to be sure that Win7 or your motherboard manufacturer has a 64-bit Vista/Win7 driver for the port. You may even be able to use your Remote Wonder II if it uses the same commands as the MS MCE remote.

For MCE, I can get it to work using plugins, I dont use MCE anyway, I use my remote for Zoomplayer.

My other option would be to use the windows 7 XPM (XP compatibility mode) update. I'm not so sure it'd work.

I haven't tried IR remotes, I seem to like the RF performance of the Remote Wonder II.
