Just ordered the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA

Hello guys,

do you know any online stores from usa that sell this monitor?
I only found one on amazon and it's very expensive (more than $400).

thanks!

Unless dell actually discontinued it, it should be back on the regular dell store at some point. Can't say when obviously but I don't think the production run is over for these yet.

I doubt you'll be able to get it cheaper than directly from dell (with coupons) anyway.

Thanks. The thing is that I'm from Europe and here it is nowhere to be found - at least not in Romania. I followed this thread and saw that in USA you can get it for like $250.
The price from amazon is very high at $400.

ok guys tell me your thoughts on this.

I am noticing what looks like spots of dust on my screen, most noticeable when its white. It is to me either various pixels dying as they all seem one pixel in size, or that weird screen affect people are mentioning which I am only just started to notice? or perhaps some coke I have been drinking which has spitted and dried up on the screen or something.

The affect is when i lightly move my finger over them it has no affect sometimes and other times does have an affect but I can sort of feel as if something is on my screen it isnt smooth, and if I move my head around these spots change colour, between rainbow colours and black.

What concerns me and makes me think it is suddenly dead/stuck pixels is all of them look the same size which is 1 pixel size.

Actually it does sound like some dirt like a coke, etc... has dried up on the screen. Give'er a clean first, and then see if that takes care of it.

UNLESS it is in some sort of pattern and it could be a latent defect that is showing up months after you bought it.

Try and run some dead pixel tests with either Dead Pixel Buddy or Dead Pixel Tester and see if there is anything funny going on first.

I doubt you would start noticing the sparkly effect now after a long period of ownership. That's usually something you notice right away and then get used to it.

Let us know how it go.

I have ran it but what am I looking for?

On every color apart from black I see the problem, white spots (brighter than the white background also) in various parts of the screen, all seem exactly 1 pixel in size, if I move my head around they seem to change to black on and off.

Yet I do not see them on the black background.

If I clean the screen whats the procedure to use, in terms of tools and amount of force to apply.

To add I fear its damage, basically due to lazyness I got a kettle in my room, due to the recent heatwave here I also have had a fan running, at least a few times when the kettle has boiled the steam was blown directly onto the screen. It seems far too excessive for coke, since its on too much of the screen and all 1 pixel wide. The only thing that is not making sense is why I dont see the pixels white on a black background.

So how are they going to get more monitors in stock? Are they going to actually produce more? What are the odds they pull the old panel-switch two-step?

So it's not a pixel issue.

Turn the monitor off and look at the surface of the screen in a well-lit room. Look for any bubbling, dots, or inconsistencies or run a clean hand gently over the screen and see if you feel any excessive roughness to it.

To clean it, a microfibre cloth dampened with water is fine. Not much pressure, but make sure that the screen is off and that the surface looks clean and streak free when done. Don't use windex or other window cleaners, because their ammonia and alcohol will eventually ruin the screen coating.

Oh yeah, and move the kettle :)

Good luck.

So I wanted to purchase 3 of these bad boys to set up a multi-panel display. Of course as others have mentioned, its no longer on the site.

I hit up their 'live online chat' to see what the story is. They said I could still order it but I wouldn't receive it till September the earilest? And the price would be 289 :eek:
I tell them to send me an email quote, thinking I could just apply some coupons to the quote itself. Unfortunately you can't apply coupons to the quotes, like you can a regular order.

So I'm going to wait till it comes back up on their store, and some nice Dell coupons come along.

What really ticks me off is if I head on over to the Dell Canada store - they have the 2209WA listed for purchase - and it ships in 1-2 weeks according to the site. Of course its overpriced at 369 (poor Canadians)

ok thanks will let you know how it goes, I havent moved the kettle but now turn the fan off when I use the kettle so the steam isnt blown onto the screen.

Arg. I was going to order one two days ago, but now it's gone. Anyone have a good guess when/if they'll be back?

Early September would be my guess, because that was the estimated shipping date for people who ordered right before Dell removed the product page from its website.

There are some rumblings that this monitor has been discontinued. Figures, right after I order one too.

LG US is still considering bringing in both the W2420P / W2220P models, and both have dual HDMI interfaces, 1920 x 1200 resolution, 5ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness for 24", 300 cd/m2 brightness for 22",178/178 viewing angles, 1080p.

The LG W2220P could be a good replacement for the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA.

Their main sales office in NJ needs to be convinced that enough will sell in the US.

Why would they discontinue one of their best selling products in the middle of it's highest sales margins? Unless LG has stopped supplying them with the panels.

Hmm... from that thread:
She then told me they were getting a shipment of 700 monitors on JULY 13th and mine would be expedited on the 14th. She did say they were in HUGE demand, were constantly back ordered and no one could figure out why.
Looks like some good news for the $200.88'ers? Hope it's accurate (and I hope one of those is for me...)

Also, I wouldn't be too concerned about any opinions given out by the whoever-answers-the-phone-at-dell people. No offense to them, of course, but the people who plan production runs probably don't answer the phones ;)

So is it just me.. Or is it pulled off the Canadian store as well? I don't see it, and search turns up no results. I really want one, but you're right about the price; it's ridiculous compared to the U.S. pricing.

I was able to jump on the Canadian side when they had it for a little less than $250 at my door ($220 + tax & free shipping). So it is possible. It wasn't a one day deal, just in case you were wondering.

Well I was able to figure out a way to place an order for the 2209WA on the US site.

I did a search for the monitor on google, which returned results pointing to Dell's web page where you would add it to your cart, clicked on the cached page, and I was able to add it to my cart and complete the order.

The bad news is I wasn't able to apply all the coupons I wanted as they had expired. The good news is I can cancel any time before it ships, and if a better coupon comes along before the September ship date, I could always cancel the existing order, and reorder it.

So if anyone is having issues ordering, google is your friend ;)

So this monitor will be available again in September?

As stated above, some guy was told by dell that they are getting 700 of them in on the 13th. Whether that is true and whether or not that is enough to cover all the current orders is unknown. If they have some 'left over' then I don't see why you couldn't order one sometime next week and get it quickly. But yeah, hard to say...

Or they could be quietly switching the panels.

Or they could be quietly switching the panels.

Dell has been known to do this so... Uggh. If this monitor only had 1080p resolution, I'd be so all over it. But it doesn't. And it lacks HDMI+DVI as well.

Take this E-IPS panel - enlarge it to 24 inches. Increase the resolution to 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 with 1:1 pixel mapping. Add VGA/DVI/HDMI inputs to it. And I think EVERYBODY would want to buy it. I certainly would.

Yeah, I'm awaiting a "2409WA"; I'm hoping it'd be a proper 1920 x 1200 monitor, though, as 1080p would most likely be a dealbreaker for me. :(

I've been a happy owner of a 2007WFP IPS panel monitor for 2 years now but it just recently started having some strange issues and I went to get it replaced by dell. Well, they sent me the 2009WFP... I should be happy right? An upgrade right? NOT. And as I browsed the site for a monitor that came even close, the only thing that had all the inputs (which I used) was the 2408WFP, and while that is a nice monitor, its PVA and laggy. So I really think dell isn't getting the point in the monitor department. They are cutting quality and anyone who has a clue isnt buying. I guess there are enough dumb people though that they dont care about us.

Yeah probably just demand outstripping supply since it pretty much is the best monitor going in that size and price range.

Besides Dell specifically lists is as a e-ips panel on in the manual and on the spec sheet so if it did change the panel type it would also have to alter the listed spec wouldn't it?

The whole out of stock status on it is kinda funny cause the folks over at dpreview are going nuts claiming some dell sales reps told them it has been discontinued and do not realize how many people jump on this monitor every single time it is available.

10e I ordered some microfibre cloths, is there a reason the screen has to be off? since with it off I wont be able to see as I wipe if the affect goes away.

Actually I think the 2009WFP is TN.. That would really piss me off. You should call them and tell then you at least want another IPS.

Unlikely I think. This is an Ultrasharp WA (Wide Angle) - therefore it must be a non-TN.

Yes, but everything is wide angle compared to TN, ie. S-PVA, and that would suck because I haven't seen an S-PVA with as low input lag or pixel response especially with dark-to-dark transitions.

You can have it on just make sure they aren't really wet where there is water dripping everywhere and could potentially cause a short somewhere.

The other reason I say turn it off is because then you can see any streaks better when the screen is off and make sure it's really clean. You can also just put on a black screen, or turn on the "blank" screen saver in windows for a similar effect.

For your purposes it's ok to see if the "dirty" spots are gone when it's on. If the screen turns almost white under your hand though, you are pressing too hard.

Good luck!

got a call from Dell yesterday - says my ship date has moved from July 17 to September 18.
he did not know the reason why. that sucks.

WTF is wrong with Dell? yesterday they told me ship date was moved to Sept 18. I just logged in to my account and it shows as shipped on July 11 (today) ???????

It's supposed to be here on the 17th. I'll believe it when I see it.
