The official "clean desktop" club.

You've probably seen his work on Interfacelift but his Flickr account is worth checking out too.

Another wallpaper by Chris Gin...

I think that is his desktop, and not just a shot of the config. The config just takes up 3 monitors or something I believe. The thumbnail is the same size as the triple monitor setup that's in the post after his anyways.

I could be totally wrong though, or maybe that's not even what you meant, haha.

I don't think that triple monitor is his, different user and not using the config. That's also the third or fourth time he's posted a nearly identical config, yet no one is really asking about it or anything, he just kinda throws it out there. I'm not trying to be the thread cop or anything, it's just starting to bug me and I had to get it off my chest.

Ontopic: I'm still at a loss with customizing windows 7, but I haven't given up yet.

Tehehe, litestep works :)

Yeah, I'm not using Rainmeter, and if you go to the link its specifically for the skin.

Haha, no, I wasn't saying drgnfang and Dark were the same users/setups. I was just using drgnfang's post of a triple monitor setup as a size reference for Dark's post above. Since they seem to be the same dimensions, I assumed Dark's was a triple monitor setup as well.

Also ontopic: I know what you mean about Win7 customization. I'm coming from XP, so at least all the Aero eye candy is new to me, and enough for me to be happy for now, but there were a bunch of Vista themes that I've seen over time that I've liked. Hopefully they'll get brought to Win7 after it's released.

Folks, can we please be clear on this...

ICONS, Widgets, Anything other than Wallpaper IS NOT A CLEAN DESKTOP! Please post your screenshots in the appropriate forum.

FOR EXAMPLE: This is my post from earlier... http://www.hardforums.com/showpost.php?p=1034216208&postcount=4898

I'd consider an appropriately used widget or dock or something clean, icons and such add clutter, generally people still use a recycle bin icon just for ease of use.

This is not, as your username would imply, a Big F'n deal, this is your opinion vs others, if people want to talk about why a desktop is not *clean* then they have the option to do that, it's a forum, *also* if you want people just posting a tiny taskbar and then 98% wallpaper, why not just link to the wall and link to the theme, people can figure it out for themselves at that point.

A lot of people here *are* interested in clean looking widgets and rainmeter/rainlender configs and themes and such, and it would be considered clean to a lot of people, if not most people here.

On another note: here is my desktop as of today, installed displayfusion with a pro trial license before I decide to drop the $20 on it, does taskbars the same way as ultramon but has win7/vista theme support, which ultramon lacks and makes ultramon unusable for me. It does lack the move to other monitor or spread across both monitors buttons ultramon offers, but win7 has hotkeys for that stuff now, and it does support multiple wallpapers as shown, so yay.

Yeah, you can have stuff on the desktop and it can still be considered clean...

The whole point of the clean desktop "club" is for people who have both form and function so-to-speak. Not everyone needs a lot of functionality, thus they'll have nothing on their desktop. Some people do need a bit more so they might have a dock/widget/alternative shell to help out. Having an icon or two may or may not kill the "clean" desktop, it really depends on how everything comes together.

Also, just because you have nothing on your desktop doesn't mean it's clean. I've said this before as well, if your wallpaper is too busy (believe I commented on a bleach or naruto wallpaper), it is NOT clean.

Anyway, that's my two cents. Time to start manually downloading plugins for this ls config...

Guidelines to a "clean" desktop:

Max 3 icons on desktop (you can hide infrequently used ones in the start panel)
Max 3 icons in the quicklaunch area
Max 2 icons in system tray (use the hiding feature to hide ones you don't use)
A minimalistic ammount of gadgets on the desktop, but a few are welcomed

These were the guidelines established on Page 1. I didn't know their was a revision to the rules according to your post on Page 253....

I think mine is pretty clean..

I disagree. What you posted is not a desktop, that is a wallpaper with a line at the bottom. There is a line between clean and spartan, defined by the use of the owner. As Optional says above, form and function.

WiLLiSTER said form and function, but okay haha :)

Jeenyus, did they have that pic on the website or did you get it somewhere else?

I missed these on the 1st page. I stand corrected, but several posts do not meet these requirements. I apologize to anyone I offended.

Don't worry about it too much, a lot of times we get people dropping in here with some not so clean desktops and the ever popular "I know it's not clean, but here's my desktop"...

Which is right up there with
"I'm not racist but..."
"I don't mean to offend but..."
and of course,
"Don't get me wrong, but..."
i.e., I'm a tool and am going to do exactly the WRONG thing and I know it, but I think that by saying this, I'm covering my ass. lol

As simple as I could make it.

Gotta hate the Vista doesn't have the "Fill" option by default. You're forced to install the Ultimate Extra's to get such simple functionality. Mac OS X has always had it, and thankfully windows 7 has it by default. Without it you are forced to either leave the black bars on the left and right (like yours) or the top and bottom. Ugly. Or you are forced to stretch the image. Also Ugly.

Somehow that doesn't look like Windows 7...

And ah, ever thought about a RAID? lol

You mean this option? Definitely looks better. I've had all my ultimate extras hidden for awhile. :D
