Just ordered the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA

Awesome deal but not the monitor I want. Great buy for those who want a low cost High quality LCD.

But for me, it just wont cut the mustard. Will wait it out longer and let this promo expire. The price does make it the mass market monitor of choice and even beats out TN panels in pricing now.

I will wait for the next generation. Very nice deal and pricepoint for those who need a monitor right away for a good and inexpensive price point.

My 19" CRT is still working but is on its way out so I will replace it after something better comes along. $200 would give me a newer 22" instead of a 19" but it wont be close to the quality I am used to and expect and I am willing to pay more to get it.

Still waiting for new 2009 models and even 2010 models. My CRT is having a slight popping issue where the screen dies then comes right back on every so often so I will likely have to replace it. But I know I will not be happy with the Dell since I am very picky on visuals.

Omfg $200 shipped. I'm SOOOOO tempted to add another and run a 22" 24" 22" triple monitor setup.

Jeez $200 shipped, that is smoking.

Who is the best maker of monitors these days for their premium offerings?

NEC? Viewsonic? Or someone else? Hitachi no longer makes displays. It used to be Hitachi, Sony, NEC and Viewsonic/Panasonic (were both matsushita at the time with the same tube) and Mitsubishi had the sony trinitron license for diamondtron.

Nowadays Dell has good panels for very cheap prices but I don't like the OEMs like Dell, Acer and HP for monitors.

So who makes the premium grade stuff these days?

Market with LCDs is totally different than it was with tube technologies. Just not sure which ones are the cream of the crop with top build quality and longevity.

If we're talking stuff for accurate graphics editing then NEC, LaCie, and Eizo. Dell and HP have some good budget stuff. Viewsonic used to popular on a budget but I never hear them mentioned anymore.

I personally liked the Hitachi tubes best. Samsung was second rate and Sony did their own thing, as usual.

Things aren't much different these days, except the names have changed. What matters is still under the hood as you seem to know. Except in rare instances the brand of the monitor hardly matters. In some cases though, like Eizo and LaCie, they tweak what would be an otherwise normal panel with some stellar electronics and calibration, then slap on a 100% mark up. It all depends if you want to pay for that. HP and NEC also do a good job, and to some extent, Dell. ViewSonic, once a shining company in the CRT world, is relegated to budget monitors these days. Samsung runs the whole gamut, pun intended.

Check out prad.de for some good reviews. This might also give you an idea of how LCD's break down between models.

I still feel it's a CRT > ?-IPS > ?-PVA > TN world out there.

B+H in Manhattan probably is a good source to see the monitors in person since they carry the brands when Im ready to buy.

Unfortunately Im still waiting for the better technology to emerge.

I currently have a BenQ FP241W. The backlight seems to be dying and it's out of warranty, so I'm looking at the 2209WA as a replacement.

My main issue with the FP241W is the black levels - everything's a shade of grey, even at the lowest brightness setting. So how are the blacks on the 2209WA? Better yet, has anyone compared the two monitors?

Does anyone know if this can be purchased using a Dell preferred account? I'm not sure since the Dell preferred account is technically for "home and home office", and the 2209WA is on their business site. They also have a different line of credit for their business site as well.

I'm glad a waited a bit and these coupons came out. As the title of the thread says, "I just ordered the Dell UltraSharp 2209WA." :D

I just ordered one of these also. Been looking for coupons since I missed the last run. Thanks to those who posted the info.
Looks like it will be a longish wait for delivery - hope it is worth the wait. :)

no, I tried to use my preferred account

not for use with business orders

just ordered thru delloutlet---refurb
will let you know how it looks compared to an ACER h233h when it arrives....

So how much better does the 2209wa compare with the h233h in terms of color vibrancy and blacks/contrast?

I'm thinking about buying one of these to replace the samsung 226bw I'm using in a dual monitor setup with my nec 2490. The h233h and 226bw are supposed to be relatively better TN panels, so i wonder how much of an upgrade it'd be.

TN panel has its downsides, regardless of the company that makes the monitor. Dell 2209WA will be quite an improvement. And it's so cheap in the USA. Here in Europe it retails for $365.

I know the 2209WA would be an upgrade, but I wonder how much of an upgrade it would be over the better TN panels out there. Obviously viewing angles would be no contest. I'm just interested in high quality TN's vs. the 2209wa -- a lower end non-TN in terms of image quality.

2209WA is superior to TN panels.

However when we get into the new IPS and circular PVA models, this is where the real competition lies.

Samsung F2380 vs LG W2220P vs ?

Mine just arrived, the viewing angle is about the only thing on it that really stands out for me. The colors are good and the blacks/whites are noticeably better than my last monitor, but it's nothing I'd consider revolutionary. I didn't have a ghosting problem either.

Just curious: Those of you who have ordered these directly from dell recently, was the ship date accurate or were they just giving a really conservative estimate?

I'm getting antsy and I'm only half a week into the 3-5 week estimate hehe :).

Mine said the same thing: 3-5 weeks. Ended up arriving within 4 days.

I was told the item is in-fact out of stock.
So we might be actually waiting 3 weeks or more.

I can give further hope to the fact that it may come early - I ordered a Dell 3008WFP refurbished on May 10th. The estimated delivery date was originally May 25th. The next day it was delayed to June 1st, and then delayed again to June 8th. I ended up getting the monitor on May 21st.

The craziest part was they never charged me, or even updated the status of my shipment, or gave a tracking number until May 28th.

You must have a very persuasive shoulder angel ;) Heck, I would have tried to cancel it not out of greed but just to see what they would do out of curiosity.

Is it just me, or did the 2209WA disappear from the US Small Buisness store? It still exists on the Canadian store.....

I think they got pretty hammered with orders on this and pulled it.

I ordered one 6 days ago (i think) and my estimated delivery is 8/10

A friend of mine says he ordered it yesterday and his is 9/12

Can't be too sure, but judging from that, it looks like they are selling a crap load of them. Still hoping mine shows up early but I'm starting to doubt they had some sitting in a warehouse, guess they have to actually make some.

I'm too excited to play with this thing. Sat down at one (with only stock settings/color calibration) for a few minutes a while ago and fell in love. Not to mention my current display is, oh, 6 or 7 years old.

I have noooo patience. I ordered mine on Sunday and they haven't shipped yet. The estimated date is 8-10. They sure as hell took my money though. Now they get to hold onto my $400 for a month while I wait...

Has your credit card (assuming you paid that way) actually been charged? Mine says the charge is "Pending" and it doesn't show in my CC total balance. My estimated date is 8/10 also - I ordered on Saturday. I also hope they ship earlier.

I paid with paypal so they took the money.

Just an update for those who are using Windows 7 and a nvidia card, and wanted to get this display running at 75hz. I just updated to the latest x64 drivers available on the nvidia site and it is now allowing me to set the display to 75hz under the nvidia control panel using the settings below:

I had trouble with the previous drivers getting it to work, but the new ones seem to have solved the issue.

Just an FYI, when I canceled my order with Dell, they informed me that you are not charged until your monitor actually ships. Made things convenient since I didn't want to wait ~2 months for the monitor and I didn't have to worry about them screwing me over on hidden cancellation fees and such.

I've had the monitor for a week now, I keep having to turn the brightness/contrast down--it's so bright stock it causes significant eye strain after an hour or two. I slightly regret buying mine--just repaired a 26" LCD tv that looks fantastic. It's definitely not as good looking as the 2209, but it was 1/4th the price!

Hello guys,

do you know any online stores from usa that sell this monitor?
I only found one on amazon and it's very expensive (more than $400).

thanks!
