Good to see ya round here again.
I know you said you were running SMP on the cpu's
Capreppy made a guide that increases your D substantially.
I don't think 8.04 has the problem. I believe capreppy uses it for his VMs.regarding the linux smp client, if I recall correctly ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 had issues were the f@h client wouldn't max out all available cores it would use something like 75%-80% of the cpu's. this appears to still be an issue in the stock version of 9.04 as well. i did some testing though and by installing the 2.6.30 kernel in 9.04 f@h is now maxing out all available cpu's. so for this particular box (dual E5420's) ppd went from 7700 up to 9100.
folding for the [H] by the end of the day:
damn, dual CPU rig, must post pics ya know, gotta give us something to drool over
Yay for pics!I'll take some pics tonight, it's actually my main file server @ home so it also has 8 x 1TB drives.
FYI made some changes to the folding rigs over the weekend and this morning. I couldn't take the fan noise of the gtx295 in my main pc so I now have a gtx275 in my main box and have the gtx295 in a pc at work in the server room. Don't even notice the added noise in there .
To take the most advantage of your CPU, you'll need to run one of the SMP clients. You can run the Windows SMP client, or you can go one step further and set up a Linux virtual machine running the Linux SMP client which is more efficient and will give you more points output. Setting up a VM is a little more complicated than running the plain Windows SMP client, but IMO it's worth a little extra effort considering how much better the Linux client is.Just started Folding for Team 33 a couple of days ago. I have only completed 1 WU, but hey, I'm doing my part! Been a lurker on HardOCP for years, thought I would try to give something back.
Question: Should I bother with a different install of the app?
System:
C2D 6420 2.13 Ghz, 4 MB L2
2 GB RAM
nVidia 8600 GTS 256MB
Windows 7 x64 Build 7229
As you can see, it's not exactly a beast. I'm folding right now, one core is at 15%, the other is at 93%. I kind of like this, as I'm able to easily use the computer for other things while folding. But, as my computer is often running while I'm not doing anything with it, I'd like to use the other core as well. And I'm guessing my GPU would be pretty much useless for folding, right?
Any help would be appreciated. I will Fold until I can't Fold no mo'.
