I was gonna bite on this but it's listed at 199.99? The PSU for the other part of the shell shocker comes up at the correct price. I hope they didn't run out....

This is still a great upgrade right? Been wanting to replace this e2180....

EDIT: Whoops, missed the fact the q6600 deal doesn't start until 3PM PST.

eh...if you can spend a few more bucks on the Q9550 it might be worthwhile...otherwise go for the e8400 for gaming. Q6600 if you are doing something other than gaming.

heh. Bought the q66 for like $300 two years ago when it launched. Im surprised its still this much considering 1066 should be replacing 775 by now..

its a great CPU for sure, but unless im going from an e4xxx to a LGA quad, I wouldn't really consider investing in LGA775 right now.

The Q6600 and original C2Ds are still fast processors. They rip most of the budget C2Ds that have come out since to shreds.

I love my E6600 that is OCed to E6700 speeds. I paid a lot back when, but it was 2+ yrs ago.

The Q6600 and original C2Ds also OC like crazy most of the time.

I got my Q6600 for $300 2 years ago.. Been running at 3.2 Ghz 24/7 ever since. Great Chip and I have no need to go to I7... Will be eyeing the 8 core chips when they come out, but prolly won't buy one for a long time as the processing power I have now is more than sufficient for running Vista and two XP VM's, and Unreal Tournament 3 all at the same time.

A few bucks more you can get an I7 at MicroCenter. I would only consider buying the Q6600 if your existing mobo will take it.

You can't use 45nm quad cores in some older motherboards. This is the best some can use.

While the Q66 wouldn't be my first choice for C2Q, its still quite a bit cheaper than going i7. There is also the issue of the C2Qs running a lot cooler than i7s, especially if you overclock.

Wasn't this the normal price around 8 months ago?

GG for Intel trying to sell their last bunch of LGA775s.

Well, went ahead and got this deal. Been wanting a quad for forever, and hell knows when i'll be able to get the cash for a full i7 upgrade.

I am thinking about since since I have a Ds3 V1. On the other hand my brother have a mb that is brand new for sale for 50 due to a order mistake that can take high cpu and Q9550 is only 170 at mc.

I gotta go with my man, [H]ere. My Q6600 hit 4.0GHz (with a lil bit o experimentation :p)

and using a T.R.U.E-120 Extreme (single fan Pulling) idle is at 31degC, load about 55-58degC

Never had any probs gaming either, running 2x 2900XT's CF and then 2x 3870's

And unlike the Core i7 lineup, I didn't have to change motherboards and memory :D

Nice. My ideal C2Q is the Q9550. My mobo supports the 45nm CPUs and it doesn't really OC much...Or at all. So Q9550 is what I've been staring at, especially as the price slowly goes down.

Well, there's the in-store deal for microcenter goin on for the q9550 for 170. Might be a decent buy.

One problem: I've never seen a Microcenter once in my life. I know where one is, but its a few hours away.

This is what I did...I upgraded from a E6600 to a Q6600 because my board (Asus P5N32E-SLI Plus) doesn't support 45 nm processors early this year. I personally think that it was great and performance enhancing move :D

Edit: currently I still have that E6600. I haven't decided what to do with it...

It is amazing how long Intel is milking this damn CPU. I miss those old days when there was some actual competition. When C2D came out, Intel was actually agressive. Now these prices and processors are in limbo.

Its not their fault no one has caught up to the C2D :D

LOL I bought this for $150 over a year ago. Terrible deal. Fuck you Intel.

Was just about to say how this chip was selling for $150 just before it went eol. Got to love how these online stores jacked the price up. I would take a Q9400 over it anyways. From what I hear the Q6600 haven't been clocking well for a while.

Yeesh. So I found out my GA-p35-ds3l does support the 45nm processors and my local microcenter does have the q9550 for sale, and a lot of them... probably a better idea to go with the q9550?

I am running a Q6600 @ 3ghz 1:1 FSB to RAM, and it's still very powerful and handles anything I give to it in terms of calculations without getting pushed. I got it a month after it came out, along with a Biostar TP35D2-A7 and 4GB of 667 DDR2 that I paid $200 for!

Long story short: This rig is still very fast and it's been over a year. So, if you are deciding between a dual core or quad core, might as well go quad and overclock a little bit. Mine was as simple as raising the FSB from 133 to 166 without any voltage increase.

Agreed. my q6600 runs solid at 3.0ghz w/ stock volts! I am tempted to upgrade to i7 just for a bigger e-pen. But have no problem holding off right now as my q6600 handles everything I throw at it with ease.

Though I know this isn't perhaps the best cpu out there, and it *has* been cheaper in the past... this is still a good enough deal that I wish I had some more "tech cash" available to pick it up. It's certainly a nice upgrade from my current cpu, but then again I bought that one for $50 and allways planned to upgrade it later in the year. If this was a suitable upgrade for an individual, then you could likely get by for another year or two before upgrading to the new chips with a new mobo.

Good deal, imo.

I usually change CPU's every other year. I have had my e6550 for over 2 and it is still kicking. Going to run this one until it dies I think.
